Carolina Panthers Training Camp Update - 7-30 - Improved Taste!

Recommended Posts

Not sure what to think of our run defense when I see that our suspect oline is opening up big holes

With two stud rookies at DT we can only assume it will improve each week. I can't tell you how excited I am for this defense.

Williams really has broken away from the TE pack a bit. Might be why they felt comfortable letting Rosario go today.

Please don't make me cum! Finally a red zone target. Get him the "jump ball" like Ryan to Gonzo, Brady to Gronk or Brees to Graham and we are golden!

Do you legitimately think he can be an answer at #2 TE? Can he be a weapon? Do you think he's anywhere close to the talent of Greg Olsen?

I definitely think he can be a #2 TE. He did really well in blocking drills today for pass protection. Will start a new thread on it.

I saw a lot of this today as well. Cam not following through on passes, bad form when he did have the room to put everything into the throw and stepping into it.

This is something that have worried me since day 1. Cam really needs to step it up and improve in some areas especially this. By now, you would expect Cam to have become a much better passer but he depends too much on his athleticism. Like you mentioned, not following through, bad form, throwing off the wrong foot, etc. He has to show that he's a "coachable" player i.e. Kuechly. If he doesn't improve, we're going to see some more bad passes like the one vs. Seattle.

Heh I think Cam has more than proven he's coachable.

The bad pass in the Seattle game was a fluke.  His accuracy has room to grow for sure, but his passes are almost never dirt balls or short like that one, and not often off target to the side either.  When they're off it's usually by being a foot or two too high.  So, I disagree that we're going to see more bad passes like the one vs Seattle regardless of what he does.  That one was a fluke.

What will help his "accuracy" even more is if we get more taller receivers (like Hunter in this past draft, or letting Gettis develop) instead of drafting a midget receiver every year (AE, Pilares, Adams).  They need to stop looking for the next Smitty (cuz it ain't happening) and start looking for the next Moose or a Bowe type (like they were when they took Lafell and Gettis.)

I'm not questioning his accuracy or passes. I'm just worried about the little stuffs like I said: form, follow through and throwing off the right foot. Seen too many times where he gotten lucky by his natural abilities. Too many times he gotten by that throwing off the wrong foot. Those are little things that Cam has to improve on. Those are things that even a guy like Peyton Manning still find ways to improve at. Those are things that make a Peyton Manning a Peyton Manning, a Drew Brees a Drew Brees, Tom Brady a Tom Brady, etc.

And I wouldn't start arguing accuracy with "taller" receivers. That's sort of a ridiculous statement. There's no such things as good/bad accuracy with "midget"/giant receivers. Look at Seattle; short QB + short WRs.
