Do we rebuild like the Jags or retool like the Cheifs?

This is the question I keep ping ponging in mind. One side of me says we should have a fire sale, weed out the left over stench from the Hurney and Fox era.  Trade Smitty for a 4th round pick, Trade Stewie and Dwill since one is aging and one is always injured for mid-late round picks, and heck if the price is right, maybe even trade Cam, I like Cam but I am 100% behind Gettleman and if Gettleman really feels Cam is not the QB for this franchise and he wants to draft his own QB, I would be behind him 100% assuming we can get some good draft picks for him.

Another part of me says keep the players we have, but just hire a new coach and coach up the players we have.  Yes we do have some talent.  D Will is ok but is aging, Smitty has lost a step and Stewie is always hurt. Gross is 100 years old and will retire soon anyway, Cam can go from Peyton Manning to Blaine Gabbert in a matter of minutes.  I have to be honest, the part of me saying we should Jacksonville Jaguars this mofo is winning out.

All these "core players" have been through two coaching staffs over the last several years and under Fox these same players have had very inconsistent seasons, and under Rivera we have flat out sucked and lost a ton of games.  If we hire a new head coach, it will take a season or two anyway before we make noise.  By then Gross will be gone, Smitty will be 36 and Dwill will be in the last year of his career.  I say hire a new HC now, start brand new and conduct a fire sale and just do these players like we did Beason, better to trade them now for something when these players wont be around for the new HC in the next couple years anyway.

I don't have faith we could do either right. In 3yrs you won't recognize the team be that good or worse than it is now.

Retool like the Chiefs.  With the talent we have on the front seven, there's no reason to rebuild.  We still have some nasty contracts to deal with and that needs to get done.  We need major help on the OL and a new #1 WR.  Tell JR to ditch this business of insisting on a defensive minded coach and get someone in here to fix this offense.  This is a different NFL than the one JR knows.  If you want to compete for Super Bowls in this league, you better be able to score points.

mixture of both. rebuild the massive contracts and the o-line. good system and coach can fix the rest.

We'd probably lose a close game against the Jaguars at this point.

The Chiefs are more than just a retooled team, they had the prefect storm.  An already talented D with studs at each level, a Pro Bowl running back in the prime of his career, and an offensive line made up of two first round picks, two second round picks, and a third round pick, all under 30,  They then got a capable quarterback, and an established head coach who didn't spend a single season away from the game.  That sort of situation doesn't come about very often.

I don't wanna do anything like the Jags.

Step 1, hire a competent Head Coach as the Chiefs did.

Gettleman's kind of already started a 'rebuilding' type process that I'd expect to continue next season.
