MMQB Cam should be more like Brees

42 posts in this topic

Come Sunday night, these two quarterbacks will square off in the first of two meetings over the next three weeks that will likely decide the NFC South crown. Newton has guided the Panthers to an unexpected 9-3 record by relying heavily on his attributes that can’t be taught. His 447 rushing yards rank third among quarterbacks; his six rushing touchdowns are first. His powerful arm has converted 28 times on third-and-10-or-longer, fifth most in the NFL.

By "emulate drew brees" do you mean flail in a big game vs a good defense and only put up 7 points?

In that case I think almost anyone can do that.

Yeah, I responded in the comments. It's readily apparent he didn't pay much attention to the schematic demands of the Carolina offense or the circumstances surrounding some of our games.

A somehwat reasonable article that seems to fail to consider the significant strides he's made during the course of this season.  No one here would deny that Cam can improve his accuracy and consistency (both things that he's made big improvements on this year), but saying that he needs to be like Drew Brees is inaccurate.  Saying that he needs to continue the same skills that Brees has developed is a much better way of putting it.

I'm not one to nitpick, but when talking about footwork, it seems as if every game Drew Brees is having to throw a jump pass.  He literally leaves his feet in order to heave the ball over the outstretched arms of the line, given his short stature.

I'm not selling Brees short on his abilities as a passer, not at all, but I don't think you can put Cam and Brees in the same conversation about how they play from within the pocket.  The physical differences are too great.

As soon as writers start crediting Cam's success to his "physical attributes"....as soon as writers keep trying to add to that played out stereotypical view of certain QB's, I stop reading and hope they get raped by a bear.  Cam is in year 3......Brees was getting literally poo on in his year 3.  The writers argument is invalid.  I bombed his twitter with hate mail too.  fug this guy.

Lol this guy had to go all the way back to Week 1 to get the pictures he needed to back his point.

Either it was tough to find any after that or he apparently didn't spend much time watching us to begin with (which a lot of his other "points" also suggest)
