I can only think of 4 drops this year by LaFell, could be wrong though. At Tampa, at San Fran, at Zona and at New Orleans.

Last year Dallas and KC come to mind. I know we've had a ton of LaFell threads already but it's a good article that points out his numbers and how they stack up against other 2's and comments from Rivera and Smitty, so I thought I'd share.

The New Orleans one was Critical.  It would have been a first down and we could have continued to move the ball down the field and possibly score.  Instead we gave it back to Brees and company and they scored on us.   Instead of 14-13 or 14-9 it was 21-6.  HUGE Drop. Massive momentum swing.

I think he has done well and I am in full support of keeping him but he has to have those catches we need them most.

An incentive laden contract is the way to go with LaFell imo.

Things working against Lafell---

Greg Hardy, Mike Mitchell, Ted Ginn, and a few others also want to be paid.

This year's draft is LOADED at WR.

He should stay, but at a decent price.  I see his agent wanting #2 money.

Lafell if you want big money, ball out till the Superbowl

1. Means catching balls on 3rd downs

2. Means getting separation from dbs

3. Means getting yards after the catch

He might be inconsistent, but the thing with LaFell is that Steve Smith likes his game a lot, and we know Smith doesn't compliment many, and him and Cam are VERY close. It is not secret that Cam is a loner (although he has gotten much better this year). From the beginning he has always been close with LaFell and they have very good chemistry. Losing LaFell could hurt much more then people may believe. Just something to think about.

I'm sure that's true, but we have to think about the future. Steve Smith will go down as one of the greatest Panthers of all time, but he's in the twilight of his career. Even if he stays with the team 1-2 years, he's best suited for the slot. We need WR on the outside that can truly stretch the field and make us more balanced offensively. I would like to see our WR corps overhauled this offseason. Imagine how dangerous our offense would be with Jordan Matthews, Hakeem Nicks (cap-friendly deal) and Steve Smith. Along with Greg Olson and a developing Brandon Williams (or draft pick/FA), we would have some serious firepower to be competitive for a long time to come.

either change the offensive system in the off season or let lafell walk because we probably can draft a better overall wideout, and having lafell, smith, ginn and a possibly 1st or 2nd round wr will only limited there opportunities. Lafells good but he has to work on his consistency, the big differnece about him and Steve Smith drops are, if smith drops one he makes a huge play later during the game(miami 4th down play,49ers 3rd down plays), lafell it seems he gets worst as the game progress, in his blocking and route running

hard descion

The catch he made in traffic against the Jets shows the heart and ability this kid has. I think he is capable of being a solid #2 but I hope we don't have to pay him like one ;)

LaFell's getting paid, whether by us or another team. Anyone imagining vet minimum is retarded.

Who can say they trust lafell when the game is on the line? I really don't care if he stays for the vet minimum or if he can find another team who'll pay him more. All he'll ever be is a WR 3 at best.

This.

You can look around at his peers to see what they are making. He is no Jerry Rice but solid NFL WRs are at a premium and this is a lean year for free agents.

Lafell will get $2-3M

I hope we keep him...he's in the system, Cam knows who he is.... we're almost certain to draft a wr in the

first 2 rounds that should at least be our number 2, hopefully our number one.  We'll probably get one or

two more years out of Smitty ...keeping the Donald and drafting a starter lets us move 88 to the slot, and maybe

steal an extra year for us.

that said, if Getty really loves Nicks and makes a deal, and we still draft a wr, money and pt will be tight LaFell

isn't smitty the only receiver we have under contract next year? getting lafell and ginn back will probably count around 5 mil against our cap number next year, then if we draft a rookie who can come in and take over for smitty after he retires, we'd be in damn good shape with our WR corp going forward.
