Best Answer Port City Cat Fan, 20 March 2014 - 02:19 PM

per bill voth - Cotchery: “I’m not wearing (89). That number isn’t going to be touched here. We’ll figure what number I’m wearing.”

Then again, you never know. One of Smith's three biggest rivals in the NFL was the Panthers' first post-89 signing.

And Legedu Naanee wore 17 just a year after we cut Jake.

absolutely not. after the regrettable way everything went down, keeping his jersey number untouched until he retires (i'm sure he'll sign a one-day contract here in a couple years and get the going-out he deserves at BOA) is the least we can do.

Agreed.

Absolutely no one else wears that. At least not for a few years.

Absolutely Not!!!

Even though the number is inactive, this would be another huge shitstrom and slap in the face of Smitty.  Everyone is already questioning "how" the release happened....no need to throw salt into that fresh wound.

Take the high road and leave #89 jersey on the shelf.

Jersey hasn't been retired yet. Until they do sure

Sam Mills number was never retired. Jackie Miles just refuses to give it out.

Nah... Hopefully he'll get 82 (his old number)

The only way I would be alright with 89 not being retired is if we use it like Dallas uses 88 and give it to elite receivers only.
