The Running Back Class

26 April 2015 - 09:38 AM

Stumbled across an article by Bob McGinn in which he documents a poll he took of 20 personnel men about this year's RB class. The top two are predictable, but it's kind of a crapshoot beyond that.

http://m.jsonline.co...-301335331.html

The whole article is worth a read, but here are the rankings:

1. Todd Gurley (93 points, 13 firsts)
2. Melvin Gordon (86 points, 7 firsts)
3. Ameer Abdullah (32)
4. T.J. Yeldon (31)
5. Tevin Coleman (21)
6. Duke Johnson (15)
7. Jay Ajayi (13)
8. Buck Allen (5)
9. David Johnson (2)
T10. David Cobb, Jeremy Langford (1)

Kinda surprised Abdullah is that high. I won't dispute him being maybe the third most talented back, but he's undersized and thus may not be an every-down guy. I don't see Yeldon over Coleman either, the latter of which is my third RB.

Ajayi would also be in the mix as the third back, but his injury seems to have scared teams off. Lots of other talented guys like Mike Davis, John Crockett, and Cameron Artis-Payne among others, didn't get a mention.

Panthers meeting with Landon Collins

Jaelen Strong has fractured wrist, likely needs surgery

15 April 2015 - 03:03 PM

@RapSheet
Potential 1st round Arizona St WR Jaelen Strong has a fractured bone in his wrist, sources say. Likely needs surgery at some point. #ASU WR Jaelen Strong is among players headed for combine rechecks this weekend. Teams want a status update on the small bone in his wrist.

So 249 players will now be gone by our pick instead of 250.

NFL Memo: prospect video conferences count toward 30-visit limit

15 April 2015 - 10:40 AM

So about those "Skype visits"...

@JasonLaCanfora
"The NFL clarified the video conference rule today in response to team inquiries as to how the technology could be applied.

NFL memo sent to GMs informs teams can have video conferences w/draft prospects outside club's metro area but it counts vs. 30 visit limit.

Any video conference w/ a draftable player must be reported to NFL in advance and counts as a formal visit. Cannot overlap w/his school sked."

It had been previously reported by some members of the media that such visits didn't count toward the 30 allowed because the player wasn't physically traveling to meet with the team.

Seems the teams probably knew this, but the media insistence to the contrary likely led to this clarification. Though if a team did have this misconstrued, they've probably gone over 30 at this late point.
