#2100126 Dave Gettlman.. meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 16 January 2013 - 03:31 PM

I know I will catch some flak for this but I have to be perfectly honest, after watching his presser, im not so sure im sold on Gettleman. First of all, he seems to have the same "avoid high end FAs, only build through the draft" philosphy Hurney had. I was hoping we would have a GM that signs good FAs. We all saw how well "keeping our own worked." We could have signed Vincent Jackson instead of Stewart and solidified a 1-2 punch WR tandem in Smitty and VJax.

I also dont like the idea he plans on keeping a bulk of our front office intact instead of bringing in his own guys, this also concerns me. He also didnt come across as willing to make wholesale changes that this team needs a lot of. Im not so sure he will make the tough decisions when it comes to guys like Gamble, Gross, Beason, DWill etc.

I also dont like the fact he seems to be behind Rivera, I wouldnt be shocked even if we miss the playoffs that Gettleman will fire Rivera. The way he talked about Rivera, it didnt seem like he was in a rush to part ways with him, even if he screws up next season.

All in all, I really cant diatinguish how Gettleman differs from Hurney in any meaningful way. Im sorry, ive learned the hardway with Rivera that actions speak louder than words.

#2093703 Poll: How do you see Panthers season unfolding?

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 12 January 2013 - 10:33 PM

I know a lot will happen with over the months with the draft, off season roster moves etc but so far with a new GM and knowing we will have a new OC, how do you think the next season will play out? It really is hard to tell, I do think whatever happens it will be a boom 10 plus win year or a bust 4 win or less year. The new OC is a wild card, will it hurt or help Cam and the offense? What do you think?

#2085441 Im on the Jim Popp bandwagon. Could be the perfect match.

Thank Dator and the bunch!

Yep lol, good ole an inferior site, thats where I got the bulk of my info. Shame im still banned there. I still go there daily and read comments and articles

#2080907 I am starting to question the players also.

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 06 January 2013 - 05:38 PM

I agree with the OP, a majority of our roster knows nothing else but inconsistent mediocrity, they dont know what its like to play and work hard for consecutive winnimg seasons so they want a HC like Rivera that wont push the envelope. Its why we need to clean house.. Get rid of all these Fox guys. Gamble, Beason, Smitty ( yes even Smitty) among others need to be let go

#2080890 I am starting to question the players also.

Good point OP. At my current job, they made management changes last year, me and the other employees didnt want the manager at the time to leave. Why? Not because we respected him but because we all knew how Lax he was.. Didnt enforce the dress code, let us use our cell phones and ipads, didnt care if we came in late, all the employees begged not to fire this manager.

My point is this, usually when employees want the current managers or in this case, HCs to stay, it more than likely means they know they can get away with a lot of crap with the current regime and know they wont be held accountable. You will see what I mean next season when we are sitting at 2-6 midway through the season.

#2080806 I'm jealous of the Redskins

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 06 January 2013 - 05:09 PM

panthertrain84 has to secretly be 12 years old

Nope, not at all. JR is a horrible owner and the sooner he no longer has his hands on this franchise, the better offwe would be. That old fool made fun of Drew Brees and Manning during the lockout, that old idiotic senile moron would kill to have a good franchise like the Colts and Saints have had

#2079760 If Rivera goes 9-7 in 2013...

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 05 January 2013 - 09:53 PM

Fans don't like the notion because a) not everyone should be able to go to the playoffs, it defeats the purpose of the playoffs and B) because 9-7 is mediocre. Mediocrity should not be rewarded.

So the 9-7 SB winning Giants are a mediocre team? And not "everyone" would have made the playoffs. if the Playoffs expanded to 14 teams this season you would have the 10-6 Bears as the 7th team in the NFC and the 8-8 Steelers in the AFC for the 7th AFC team this season.

Also you would have less teams give up so early in the season if they knew they had a better shot at the playoffs

#2079739 If Rivera goes 9-7 in 2013...

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 05 January 2013 - 09:43 PM

Keep him, its not his fault the current playoff system is flawed and even winning teams can miss the playoffs which I hope changes next season by expanding playoff teams to 14 instead of 12. Why fans are so against this and think its perfectly fair for 10-6 and 9-7 teams to miss the playoffs is beyond me. I guess they have this silly notion that if it is expanded to 14 teams then all of a sudden 7-9 and 6-10 teams will make the playoffs which is just silly and unfounded. But anyway I digress..

I wont blame Rivera one bit, he got us the winning record, cant blame him for a flawed playoff system.

#2079357 So wait, im confused (cap space related.)

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 05 January 2013 - 06:54 PM

How does this work exactly? Last year before we signed J Stew to that big contract, all we kept hearing before that was "we only have $5 mill in cap space." But then out of nowhere we hear Stewart signed this massive 40 million plus contract despite us "having little to no cap space." So I am completely confused how cap space works, if we only had around $5 mill in cap space, how did we manage to sign Stewart to a 40 mill contract? Whatever kind of accounting magic we did to make that work, cant we just like, I dont know.... Just do that again next season?

Pat Yasinskas@espn_nfcsouth

Don't rule out #Panthers making Beane GM and adding someone to oversee personnel department.

Expand

God dammit then why the fug have a GM? Really? Im tired of this "dont be suprised if the Panthers hire the manager of toilet paper and just letting scouts and Rivera decide.

#2078455 Voth: Rivera is Staying

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 05 January 2013 - 01:14 PM

Joe Person.. "Brandon Beane heavily in the mix for GM spot." Looks like the Rams just gained one more fan.

#2078191 Come on JR..

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 05 January 2013 - 11:44 AM

Have you stopped and relized that if it takes more than a week to decide if Rivera is right for the job that maybe he is just not right for the job?!? Stop being indecisive like my wife when deciding what to eat for dinner, you are a owner of a NFL team! In this business if you dont have 100% confidence in your HC then you let him walk and by JR taking eons to decide shows he is not 100% confident in Rivera and just on that alone Rivera should be fired.

#2073700 Ross to visit Chargers team for GM job.

Posted by PantherTrain84 on 02 January 2013 - 06:39 PM

keep in mind, teams always interview a lot of prospects, doesnt mean they will hire them. Surely you didnt think we would be the only team to interview him?
