If its petty then no. But when you sitting at 3-7 cause of dumbness, say what you have to say. All the media do is ask questions, questions the people want answers too. Sometimes the truth just hurts

The truth is that you talk poo on your boss you usually get fired. That also hurts.

This is why the QB and supposed leader of the team needs to say something. Instead a low level player tried to lead since nobody else will and got shown the door. Pathetic weak franchise

A leader says something to the coach - not fugging Joe Person. Why is that so tough for people to understand?

Ummm no...the other thing

Jones doesn't think Mitchell would be exposed this year?

I don't know why people can't accept that Dave made some bad decisions this offseason that have absolutely nothing to do with Marty Hurney. If you're so strapped for cash then why do you give a troubled defensive end 13 million when you have no plans to sign him long term? Why do you not being in more tackles to compete for the job with Byron and Nate? Why do you let your free agents test the market without trying to lock them up for possibly less than what they got on the market? Why do you release your veteran WR (who you're still paying) and give your QB all new targets coming off of ankle surgery? Everything isn't about "Marty Hurney" and "cap hell". Gettleman made some bad football decisions this offseason and you're seeing the result of that.

Actually...almost all of the "what ifs" you named are cap related.

Mitchell would have been exposed with our lack of pass rush this year. It's more fun remembering him as the legend he's made out to be.

So there is a need to keep a useless coach with no accountability?

Yes...until the season is over

I have every confidence that "not wanting to be a dick" won't be the reason we don't go after him. GMan has no problem being one. Great GM trait IMO.

Then he needs to keep looking.....if you are only getting rid of Avant for that reason alone then Harper needs to go.

Real question: do we have younger players on the roster or PS we need to evaluate over Harper?

If Rivera has lost his job (please...please...please) it's not going to happen until after the season. Let's wait until then to start flipping out over that.

I really think this is more GMan. I think he looked at everything - Avant being a temp player, poor production, younger options, and speaking out - and said see ya later.

Avant was also in a postion he could speak. Others aren't. Many have to bite their tongue.

Avant is a one year rental that likely knows his career is at the end. He gets his money regardless. Why be a sheep if you are him when asked about something so obvious?

I'm glad he spoke up. I think it's awesome. But I'm not surprised he was let go because of his lack of production (coaches misuse aside) and for his comments. And I don't, personally, think it was a big loss because (like you said) he wasn't going to be here next year.

So what's the issue?

Godfrey: bad at his job - gets cut - Huddle rejoices

Avant: bad at his job - makes comments about RR we all agree with - gets cut - Huddle explodes

There aren't too many jobs where you can talk poo about your boss and still be employed.

I agree with Avant's statement 100%. But I have more of a problem with a player taking his comments to the media than I do our FO handling him for doing it. Mix in the fact that he wasn't producing, our season is over, and we have some young guys to take a look at then "bye bye Jason". Everyone keeps saying RR has lost the locker room - well players should know they don't speak outside of it and criticize what's going on to the media. The percentage of truth in their statement is irrelevant.

Because all that could have been done without cutting him.  They could have just benched him.

No doubt in my mind he was cut because he questioned the coaches.

Not producing, not getting open, and speaking out about the coaches is a pretty bad combination.
