#3201890 Cam's Most Important Offseason Yet

Posted by CharlottePanther on 12 January 2015 - 10:08 PM

I hope we dont extend Cam until after next season, I dont see why people on here frown upon players and coaches playing and coaching in a lame duck season and actually earning their contract. Just like Rivera shouldnt have been extended until he could have proven he can get back to back winning seasons. This season will be the tell all of what kind of contract Cam deserves. Just like the OP said, there are NO barriers or excuses for Cam this off season.

Same playbook, same offense, same scheme, same WRs (with the exception of maybe one added), no off season surgery, no finishing up school, no none of that.

Im sorry, I know 99% of you disagree but I am very VERY uncomfortable with this notion that we should just give Cam his 100 million dollar contract and hope, pray and cross our fingers he develops into a franchise QB, I also dont agree with the notion of " better sign Cam to big bucks because who else is out there." What kind of sense does that make?!

Cam is still an enigma and big question mark in my opinion. This has the making of a Jay Cutler situation all over again, what a collosal disaster for that franchise signing Cutler to such a deal, convince me right now Cam isnt Cutler 2.0?

Just look at all the QBs in recent history that just flamed out after signing huge deals.. Vick, Cutler, Dalton to an extent, Kaepernick hell even Drew Brees. I HATE HATE the direction the NFL is headed with QB contracts breaking the back of franchises. QB contracts are a huge albatross

I don't love Bersin and Cotch, what's there to love?

#3199989 Realistically, what is the future of Shula?

Posted by CharlottePanther on 12 January 2015 - 09:17 AM

This is absolutely the case. I'd say there's a less than 10% chance Shula is canned. I doubt Gettleman wants to jump over Rivera to fire his coaches and it's very doubtful Rivera will fire him either. The only member of the coaching staff gone IMO is Rodgers.

Firing Rodgers is just throwing out a bone, it does nothing. Special teams is special teams, we didn't have a punt returner and either your kicker can make a FG or he can't, special teams is more player driven then coach driven, we NEED a new OC and new offensive philosophy, Jesus can we once be proactive instead of reactive

My honest opinion, I don't think Gman and Rivera have faith in Cam's mental ability to learn a new offensive system in one off season, it's not what I think, it's what I think the coaches think. New OCs are brought in all the time and you see QBs thrive because of it, Rivera and Gman don't want to risk Cam learning a new system

I think Shula is gone, lets not forget we did interview OCs last season, he has regressed this year, I dont see him returning. Changing special teams coach isnt a big enough move to get us over the hump, we need an entire new offensive philosphy. Special teams can only impact a team so much, every team doesnt have a Kam Chancellor timing a FG perfectly and jumping the line, and Bersin is the soul reason our return game has been awful.

The problem is our offensive coordinator, what does Shula stand for? What is his philiosphy? With Chud you atleast knew what to expect and what he stood for, it was all about the big play, being pass heavy and getting yds in chunks. Shula just has to go

#3198233 hell why not. stirring the hardy pot - wants back in carolina...will play for...

Posted by CharlottePanther on 11 January 2015 - 04:54 PM

Exactly I don't give a sh*t what Jeremy says about 100% not being here. If he'll sign here with us for $5m for a year even (after being found not guilty) then we'd be retarded not to do it.

I agree, im not sold that "he is 100% not playing here even if found not guilty." What is the reason behind this thinking? Rivera even said in his opinion he should be allowed to come back after a 6 game absence, that tells me he wants him back. Hes not going to get paid huge money, if hes found not guilty why wouldnt we want him back? Makes no sense

#3197785 Greg Hardy's Future if Found Not Gulity

Posted by CharlottePanther on 11 January 2015 - 03:09 PM

So if hes found not guilty, why wouldnt we bring him back? I dont get that, doesnt that set a very bad precedent or is it just JR not caring about what matterrs which is wins?

#3197684 What we brought them here for

Posted by CharlottePanther on 11 January 2015 - 02:42 PM

We didn't bring anybody in to win this year, because we knew we had no chance. Harper and Cotchery were big additions to help the young guys, and it will help our future immensely. Understand that every single move made this year (except for Hardy) was for the future, NOT this year.

Frankly im tired of hearing that. In 2011 it was "Panthers end season strong and finish 6-10, something to build off for the future." Then in 2012, it was; "Panthers improve 7-9 and finish the season with momentum for the future." Then in 2013, the future arrives and we go 12-4, win the NFCs and get a playoff bye, then half our starters leave and we bring in guys like Harper and Cotchery to coach the young guys for the "future." Cant we for once stop building a team the scared way and build like a team that is just a few pieces away from the SB?!

We seem to be in this endless loop of "future" and "young guys" to groom for the "future." My question is simple, when is the "future" exactly and can someoen let me know when its actually here?

Damn, I now wish we would have got Green Bay, it's clear Rodgers is hobbled, our pass rush would have had a field day with a statue Rodgers.

As I've said in another thread, I don't follow college at all, but I looked at some mock drafts, what about Sammie Coates? He seems to fit the "speedy playmaker" WR we need and is 6'2 with 4.3 speed

#3195778 Cam Newton

Posted by CharlottePanther on 10 January 2015 - 11:49 PM

I'm lazy so I'll just copy my post from the game thread on my thoughts...

Cam is what he is. He's better than his stats because of the ways he helps the running game and runs himself. He is not, however, a top QB. He's a slightly above average/just outside of the top 10 NFL QB. Somewhere around #12. He should improve but he will almost certainly never be a top 5 QB. However, do you really want to gamble with having a guy in the bottom half of the league for x number of years? He may be flawed but he's our guy and the fans love him. My kids love him. I'd much rather give him a contract and see what he can do with an OL and some receivers than take my chances with whatever draft pick or free agent.

But DA has played so exceptionally well he deserves a strong look. First DA looks good in training camp and all I hear is "its only training camp!" Then he looks good in pre season and all I hear is "its just pre season!" Then he plays two regular season games and looks like Peyton Manning, and all I hear is "but its teh Bucz!!"

DA has done enough to atleast warrant some cnsideration about rolling with him. He is just such a great passer from the pocket. Why on earth will you handicap your salary cap by signing Cam to a huge mega contract when a guy like DA can possibly do better for fraction of the cost.

What would you rather have, spend all your money on Cam and as a result have a bad team around him, or roll with DA and use that money for a elite WR and O line pieces?

Hes a game manager, will never be a Tom Brady or Rodgers, more of the Alex Smith and delhomme class

Guys we might be a team that its in purgatory. You have three kind of teams in sports.. The dominant dynasty teams that are good year in and year out, teams like New England. Then you have teams that are good enough year in and year out but never get over the hump, or "always a bridesmaid never a bride, teams like the Bengals and the Falcons recently before they started sucking. Then you have teams that are purgatory teams, teams that are never quite good enough to be a winning team but not bad enough to get good draft position to help their situations.

We are a purgatory team, a team that is stuck in purgatory and not terrible but not good either, just middling in purgatory.
