#2833866 Make or break year for Shula (I hope)

Posted by mbarbour21 on 27 June 2014 - 07:47 PM

Yep we were good enough for 12-4. No matter we got beat down at home in our good enough stadium with good enough video boards and a good enough speaker system. Why improve?

We are not saying we don't need to improve, we are saying we don't believe improving includes canning Shula. His scheme worked, and it would have worked better if we could score TDs in the redzone. So we brought in some guys that are redzone threats, in order to IMPROVE.

I like D. Newton's pick of Underwood and his mentioning of Ginn's turn around to back it up. I think the division shakes out like this:
Carolina: 11-5
New Orleans: 10-6
Tampa Bay: 8-8
Atlanta: 7-9

Yes, I am a little biased. However, with a top 2 defense that we believe has actually improved. (Addition of Ealy/Cason/Decoud, Godfrey's switch, more experience for each player and for the defense as a unit) Also, with what we believe is a slightly improved offense (better fit for scheme/increased redzone weapons/Cam's progression, which will also help our defense), we should be able to methodically score more points than our defense allows. At least that seems to be the idea. Oh yeah, lets not forget the fact our team is pumped and ready to prove last year was no fluke; and we have a whole new WR line-up ready to show they are not the 'sorriest receivers'. So.....yeh......call me optimistic.

Does that mean Newton was better than Manning last year since Cam had more game winning drives and impactful 'drive saving runs'? Or are we going to defer to statistics?

Agreed. Y'all correct me if i am wrong, but isnt "game-saving/winning drives" the statistic we hated when it came to Andrew Luck? We hated he got lifted up so high because "game-winning" drives were overated. Because it also includes the defense holding for you, who gets the ball last, and it also (as you pointed out) shows you HAD to pull it out late vs pulling away from the other team.

#2827879 More WR hate for the WR Corps

Posted by mbarbour21 on 23 June 2014 - 10:47 AM

I don't really see how we can expect much better of a ranking for the WR's at this point in the offseason.

To me I understand the ranking. Brand new receiving crew on a playoff team. The shot (hate) really comes in where he doesnt take the time to analyze the players. The pieces put together may actually fit, they are not ELITE status so i didnt expect a top 10 or even top 20 ranking. Just an explanation. And we got nothing but a cheap shot.

#2826250 Michael Vick on running quarterbacks: I started it all

Honestly, if Vick wasnt so injury prone, he would be great. He was electrifying before prison, but he wasnt much of a passer. After prison tho, he was straight nasty. He just couldnt stay healthy. Talent wise he hasnt, just cant stay on field.

I was so mad when they stopped NFL Fever! The guy at babbages tried to get me to get Madden the last year NFL Fever came out, but i refused! Miss that game!

#2818514 ESPN Insider PFF Roster Rankings Panthers 22 with NO Elite Players.

Posted by mbarbour21 on 13 June 2014 - 07:47 AM

As a Panthers fan, I like being in this position. No one INCLUDING some fans is expecting any success out of this year. However, as a Panthers realist, I can see a least a 9-7 (a decrease, but success) year. DG again brought in players that have something to prove (ie Mitchell and Ginn last year). The outsiders said last year the team should finish 6-10 at best with a 12-4 record and division champs. I see that happen again this year, maybe not division champs but a Wildcard birth, like I said success.

As a fan of the Panthers & the NFL as a whole, there is NO WAY 9-7 will get us a wildcard slot in the NFC. We have to win 11 or more to even make the playoffs more than likely. IMO.

#2814081 Think Cutler's contract not Kaepernick's for Newton

Posted by mbarbour21 on 09 June 2014 - 09:38 AM

I don't see any player with an effective agent giving up guaranteed money to be "team friendly".

Cam's next injury, in the world of the highly dangerous NFL, *could* be a career ender.

Then where does all that marketing money go? Corporations rarely pay money for old-news to be the face(s) of their companies.

Cam was the first #1 overall pick to come into the league under the rookie salary cap. You can make a safe bet that Cam and his agent will get the maximum value out of his next contract as they possibly can. And nobody should blame him/them one little bit for doing so.

Good point, didn't think about injury.
I wouldn't be upset either way, he is worth it. I don't think Kaep is tho. IMO

#2804610 Time to Unite: '15 Cover Vote

Posted by mbarbour21 on 30 May 2014 - 03:59 PM

The only way Newton has a slight chance is if you create a link with Sherman that actually votes for Newton & have lilsmitty post it on seahawks.net

Then delete this thread.

Honestly, people might have voted for Sherman because they just cant stand "Cappa trick". They might didnt want him to have a chance. I voted for Sherman for that very reason. So dont freak out too much guys.

Anyone else vote for Sherman???

#2783635 4 D-linemen on passing downs?

Posted by mbarbour21 on 13 May 2014 - 08:07 AM

It will probably be determined by different factors.
- opponent's o-line
- mismatches
- where we are on the field and how long X player has been in on current drive (who is fresh)
- how well X player has done done (hot-hand)
Like it has been said, there will be different packages too. There will be different variables though.
