#2993622 The reset button needs to be hit in 2015

Posted by weyco2000 on 01 October 2014 - 09:39 PM

We did save money in the long term, but it isn't like we saved millions and millions of dollars. Like I said, we took a cap hit. Which means we're still paying him even though he's not on the team.

The biggest savings wouldn't have come until 2017, where we would've owed him his full amount even if he retired.

20 million over 3 years is in fact "millions of millions of dollars".

#2976421 ECU ranked 2nd in ACC

Posted by weyco2000 on 24 September 2014 - 01:45 PM

ECU will never be in the ACC because there's already 4 NC teams, there's no way the add another. The ACC had to expand to major markets to increase revenue and national exposure, VT would be the exception. It's all about revenue and how much can be generated by a specific market, it's pretty sad but it's true.

UNC fan here- not usually in the reactionary crowd of "FIRE x-coach" heck I didn't even think we should fire Rivera last year after the 1-3 start, but......

I like Fedora as a person, and I think the players generally like his intensity. But let's face it: the guy is a creative offensive mind that can't coach defense for a lick and does not coach fundamentals well.

ECU did to UNC everything Fedora promised to make UNC when he came here AND with inferior recruits.

Say what you want about Butch Davis, but that guy could coach. Fedora was a gamble and we lost, no harm no foul. He'll get a job at a good school as an O-coordinator.

I agree to a certain extent but Fedora walked into a mess created by Davis. The loss of scholarships and the scandal surrounding the program has affected recruiting, the lack of talent and depth was obvious during the second half. With that said, he does make some strange and annoying decisions. The decision to rotate QB's has effected the play of both and the offense as a whole, the RB rotation is frustrating as hell and this whole read and react defensive scheme just sucks. It's like he bases his recruiting on promises of playing time, not the opportunity to COMPETE for a starting position. I wouldn't be shocked to see some guys transfer out.

One glaring weakness for UNC thus far has been FG kicking, 1 for 3 and that 1 was from 23 yds which is essentially a PAT. Looks like Weiler has taken over for Moore.

Saturday @ 3:30 on ESPNU
ECU (2-1) -2 over UNC (2-0)

After witnessing firsthand the butt kicking the Pirates laid on the Heels last year, I've been looking forward to how the Tarheels respond this year. I thought in last years game, the Pirates coaching staff had an excellent game plan by loading the box to stop the run and to force Renner out of the pocket on the defensive side and exposed the Tarheels defense with a well balanced attack offensively. With that said, I think the Heels are different team with Wiiliams at QB and with Logan/Hood at RB, I thought last years game exposed Renner and the lack of depth at the TB spot. Seems like the Heels (myself included) learned the hard way... ECU is a damn good football team!

Saying that he needs the ball in space is like saying he lacks the talent to create separation... Do we redesign our play book for him or go with someone who already fits?

#2831429 UNC Academic Scandal

Posted by weyco2000 on 26 June 2014 - 01:45 PM

Who was in charge of having fake classes to keep athletes eligible? Who steered athletes to these classes? Who claimed these classes didn't exist and then finally admitted to it when they couldn't cover it up anymore? Who has been on the defensive from day one with anybody who speaks out? unc! That's who. You want me to define for you who unc is? Okay the people who pull the strings at unc. You know how you shut up people like me up? You stop the BS "independent" reviews, nobody is buying that stuff, well unless you blindly follow everything unc says. You are paying these people for a review, so they are working for you. Just look at the "independent" review of MW, unc didn't give all the data to the "independent" reviewers, nor did the "independent" reviewers interview MW, nor did they interview ANY of the students/athletes. That's the definition of a whitewash! If I give you only that information that supports my claim is that truly an investigation? Hell no! If unc has nothing to hide why keep spending all this money on "independent" investigations? Why not invite the NCAA to investigate so you aren't paying someone $1000 an hour to dig through your dirt?

"Kenneth Wainstein, a former federal prosecuter retained in February by University of North Carolina President Tom Ross and UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol L. Folt, Wainstein is a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP."

Wainstein, has been retained (PAID!!!) to do yet another independent investigation and if his findings don't reflect your opinions, you'll cry foul. Three psychologist were "retained" by the administration to review SATA scores that MW used as the base of her model and all 3 came to the same conclusion. They weren't allowed access to confidential information for obvious reasons, however what if their conclusions had supported MW's claims? Would it matter if they were paid then? Heck no, you'd be rejoicing and making yet another thread.

#2823382 UNC Academic Scandal

Posted by weyco2000 on 18 June 2014 - 12:56 PM

Per ESPN: North Carolina coach Roy Williams reiterated Wednesday to Taylor Zarzour and Marc James at Charlotte radio station 610-AM that he is bothered by the academic scandal in his school’s African and Afro-American Studies department. But he also reiterated that he thinks things have been done the right way in his basketball program since he returned from Kansas in 2003.

“No question about it,’’ Williams told “The Drive.” “Our track record is pretty doggone good. And our track record has been pretty doggone good for 15 years at Kansas, nine years at North Carolina. And we know how much we emphasize the academic side in the basketball office. We know what our guys are majoring in. We know -- every day we’re in touch with those kids. So it’s something, again, that I’m very proud of.

What happened to MW? I would assume writing her book, I also know she is still speaking out about the corruption and cheating that was going on at unc. McCants' transcript backs up her story and I know she would really like the other players on that '05 team to release their transcripts as well.

Her website if you want to check it out and keep up to date. http://paperclassinc...rashad-mccants/

Bradley Bethel puts it into perspective...

"Mary Willingham's oft-repeated claim that "profit" athletes do not receive a "real" education is true to an extent. It is true for the handful of academically capable athletes, like Rashad McCants and Michael McAdoo, who squander their educational opportunity in pursuit of riches. McCants, by all accounts a capable student, was so dismissive toward his education he failed multiple classes in a single semester. McAdoo, likewise dismissive, plagiarized a paper he knew would be graded leniently. Both former athletes, and the few others like them, did not receive a real education for one reason: they did not want a real education as much as they wanted the fame and wealth associated with professional athletics.

In other words, contrary to Willingham's rhetoric, a real education is as much the responsibility of the students as it is the responsibility of the educators. The educators with whom I have worked at UNC took their responsibility seriously. McCants and McAdoo, on the other hand, did not take their responsibility seriously. That is one truth McCants's transcript does confirm."

So if her claims were true and accurate...

"For five months, the national media lauded Mary Willingham as a heroic whistleblower whose testimony perfectly illustrated the decadence of college athletics. Nonetheless, since being abandoned by O'Bannon, she has been reduced to a discredited former reading specialist so disgraced she will not even take comments on her blog."

How's that book coming along?
