-Run game was going well until Hartsock got hurt. When he came back, his knee was never the same. Run game suffered because of it.
-Thinks the solution to fix run game is get another young TE that can block and Hartsock isn't getting any younger. Said we need to fix the offensive line with big bodies
-Doesn't want to have as many free agents as we did. Ideally wants 8-10 UFAs.
-Real high on King, McNutt, and Travis Bond (he stated he views them as draft picks)
-Very excited about Ron. They think alike and have a great working relationship.
-Said most important part of coaching staff is teaching. Used Lester, White, Klein as examples of how strong the staff is. At times, we played 6 rookies on defense and ended with #2 defense.
-Nate Chandler exceeded his expectations and thinks he is a tremendous player/athlete.
-Asked about double down on offensive line "hog mollies". He answers with purpose of free agency is the set yourself up so that you can take the best player in draft and not worry about positions of need. Star and KK were not drafted on positional need but rather they were the top players left on board. If it happens again this year, they will do same thing.
"The improvement of our team has been reflected in the progress of the record over the last three seasons under Ron, and we look forward to building upon that foundation," said Panthers Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson.
Despite starting the season with a 1-3 record, the Panthers went on to win 11 of their final 12 regular season games – including a franchise record eight-game winning streak – to secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye.
"I have been very clear about how much I have enjoyed living in Charlotte and working for this organization," said Rivera. "I very much appreciate the support and confidence Mr. Richardson and (general manager) Dave Gettleman have shown in me and our staff. Any success we have enjoyed is the result of a team effort by players, coaches, scouts and the entire organization, and our ultimate goal remains winning the Super Bowl."
I think it's great news. I love Ron as a coach and think he has grown each year. Players want to play for him and work their butts off. Congratulations to him!
The Panthers line up with Cam in the pistol. Williams is offset a bit however. There are also blockers on either side of Newton. Cam will ride Williams while the blockers go to lead up for him to his right. On this play, Ahmad Brooks, who had a helluva game, takes dive/Williams. Between the linebacker and the safety to Brooks' side (red circles), somebody is supposed to have Newton.
I'm not going to steal his article but above is a sample. Stephen White was a former player for TB and he is a great follow on twitter. He normally does these for TB games but he also does some by request. He places 85% of the blame on Shula. I'm sure not many are surprised. It's worth a read.
- The Rams offensive line allowed pressure on only 4 passing attempts as they were required to pass protect on only 20 occasions.
Easier said than done obviously but this has/is our method to winning. Keep Cam upright and run the ball successfully.
- All bar 22 of Zac Stacy’s 133 yards came outside the tackles. This 17% of yards between the tackles is unusual for him as he normally averages 50%.
This may be off base but I seem to remember us trying to run a lot on the Saint's interior last game. They have some BIG bodies on their front and seem to clog up the middle efficiently. I am optimistic based on D-Wills game this week that we can have some serious success on tosses, sweeps, power, etc. He looked good turning the corner and our WRs had a nice blocking game sealing the edge.
Let's discuss what adjustments we expect to see this week.
