#924145 Those who want Cam Newton First overall...

Posted by CRA on 14 December 2010 - 07:36 PM

Wanna know who actually watches college FB?

Just ask them their opinion on Cam Newton.

Cam Newton has a lot of legit positives. Ones a guy like Clausen never did.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he can come into the NFL and run some of the same plays he did in college.

#922992 Fox: Clausen will remain Panthers QB

Posted by CRA on 14 December 2010 - 10:57 AM

1) The idea that Fox/Hurney/JR "ruined" Clausen is bullshit, plain and simple. I don't subscribe to the thought that a rookie QB can be "ruined" by a lousy offensive line, a petulant WR and a lame-duck coach/OC. When he got protection on third and forever Sunday he was like, "oh wow! I don't have to throw it out of bounds!" and hit Gettis for 22 yards and a first. Clausen hasn't shown enough to start in '11, don't get me wrong. But when a guy keeps getting hit then stops getting hit he gains confidence back. If that were the case, Weis "ruined" Clausen in '07...only he bounced back in '08. Regardless he'll be either QB1 or QB2 here next year. Wait and see.

this is the NFL, you don't get to stand in the pocket w/ no pressure. you have to play like Matt Schuab did last night......you have to successfully deal w/ the pressure coming at you.

The pressure will never stop coming at Clausen b/c of how he reacts to it. The OL isn't going to solve that....Clasuen has to.

Yeah, the OL needs to play better but you can't keep trying to pin Clausen's issues elsewhere.

#920783 Like it or not, Clausen isnt the reason.

I could get behind this if it weren't for the fact that the defense has given up huge plays often on their first series. They did it yesterday, and I'm sure they've done it in many more games.

Hell, the game against Chicago comes to mind.

you mean when the D took the field the first series and Atlanta's first snap was already in the redzone?

The D did their job against Chicago. In fact, David Carr might could have won that game for us. I mean to lose that game speaks volumes of how bad Clausen is. The D had 4 picks and that game was a perfect scenario for a QB.

D has a big weakness.....and they have done overall a good job working around it. An offense that can't do squat makes it much worse though.

I'll add this, check out the KC game yesterday....take Cassel out and insert a garbage QB and all the sudden the OL can't block and the offense generates 69 yards of total offense and 0 points.

horrible QB play makes an OL horrible.

all Carolina needs is a QB and a good HC and they will instantly be a .500 or slightly better team next season.

Jerry will open up the pocketbook like normal for what usually are standard moves in free agency for Carolina

AE run his version of the wildcat starting on first down and let him run it until we are forced to punt.

AE return kicks for a game.

Jimmy Clausen have pressure coming from the DE spot.....he steps up into the pocket like all NFL QBs and then makes a pass downfield (ideally this would occur before the game is a blowout).

#907983 Anyone Still Want to Defend Clausen?

Posted by CRA on 05 December 2010 - 09:04 PM

Clausen has showed improvement..he is not playing great but I see a guy playing better than he was at the beginning of the year

No he hasn't. He looked like a an undrafted rookie QB making his first NFL start. He checks down, scrambles when the pressure shouldn't force it.....and the only pass he can make downfield is a throw to the sideline on his first read.

what worries me is the Mike Williams matchup. Big dude.

#905315 Matt Moore Vs Jimmy Clausen

Posted by CRA on 04 December 2010 - 12:34 PM

Everyone who belittled this thread completely neglected the fact that both Moore and Clausen have almost identical targets.

The main problem is not he QBs, it's the play calling.

No, playcalling has always been an issue. It isn't a bigger issue this season than it was last season.

QB play is a HUGE problem. Plays have been there to be made all year....just like any other. Sure, no doubt playcalling doesn't make life easy on a QB but the excuses need to stop for Carolina QBs. There is a reason a bum St. Pierre has an 80+ yard TD bomb in 1 start off the couch. Teams don't respect the pass and plays are there (and have been)......Moore flat out missed a lot of those throws that would have really hurt opponents......and Clausen isn't trying to hit them.

#902093 Gamble Walked Out of Practice Last Week

Posted by CRA on 01 December 2010 - 11:50 PM

I think a change in defense will help gamble. He is a man CB playing zone. Wast of talent if you ask me.

like w/ all players, Fox wants them to play Foxball. He won't tailor scheme around what actually fits the players. You can even go back and look at Ken Lucas. Lucas was a much better corner when allowed to get on his man at the line of scrimmage but instead he was asked to play a soft zone.

#896936 Fox Doesn't Blame Kasay For Loss. I Sure Do.

Posted by CRA on 29 November 2010 - 01:54 PM

blaming Kasay is dumb. Carolina's offense again didn't do their job. They asked Kasay to come out 5 times to kick 40 + yard field goals. You ask a kicker to come out 5 times from that distance in a game and he is gonna miss sometimes.

Maybe if Clausen would have done something besides being unproductive the entire game we could have won. People always put too much focus on the very end of the game. All the plays before matter as well.

someone needs to inform Torry Holt that Clausen doesn't throw downfield.

#894256 Panthers @ Browns Game Thread

He was the QB on the team...he didn't QB them. Big difference.

but after starting his rookie year...there are some claiming Sanchez should be in MVP talks this season.

#893139 Predict Clausen's numbers

Posted by CRA on 27 November 2010 - 06:30 PM

Obviously mine was a joke post....he's going to have three incompletes cos he has a nasty habit of throwing the ball out of bounds when nobody is open.

People really need to stop with this Stewart TD poo. How is it not legit? He threw it to Stewart and then #28 crossed the goalline. He should get credit for taking advantage of a blown coverage - that's how most QBs earn their pay cheques.

most QBs don't earn their paychecks scrambling b/c of slight pressure and bailing out on play......then noticing that the defense forgot about the RB and left him open a mile from the nearest defender. It was a gift and Clausen took it. Considering THAT is his resume.....how is that legit.

#892071 Who starts: Stewart or Goodson?

Posted by CRA on 26 November 2010 - 04:42 PM

well, the OL has opened holes for Goodson the last 2 weeks. Can't argue against that. Sure, he creates some on his own but holes have been there. If holes are being opened up to run in then Stewart needs the carries.

the Browns are good against the run so there probably won't be good holes. In that case, Goodson should get more reps b/c he is more dangerous w/ Clausen checking down to him.
