#1664287 Clausen's time might not be done...

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 26 February 2012 - 02:21 PM

i still dont know why you guys hate this kid so much. some people can come in and be studs right away, like Newton. Some take time. Only one NFL executive saw anything in Farve, Steve Young, and countless other QB's only for them to go on and have fantastic careers. Remember it was technically his senior year of college when he started for us. Yes, i know that same can be said for Newton but I addressed that at the start of my post.

3 years to be groomed in the NFL and who knows what he could look like in a preseason/relief. Then you ship him out for a Kevin Kolb/Charlie Whitehurst trade, win.

Young and Favre at least had raw ability. Mobilty
and a rocket gun.

Physically Clausen has nothing to hang his hat on.

Plus, being scared in the pocket has never been a fixable thing.

Also, if your going to groom a kid he needs to fit your scheme. Every year he takes up space on our roster the odds of him developing get smaller. Fitting your offense is too huge

THe cost is about how you structure it. Williams contract is more front loaded to take into account the fact we will pay Stewart. Most all of the guaranteed money comes out in the first 2 years which is prior to 2013. I suspect Stewart's contract will be backloaded with a big roster bonus in 2014 for example when the cap is supposed to rise by 15 million I have read. The rest will be backloaded when we probably won't even have Williams on the team. William's signing bonus was 16 million over 5 years or 3 million a year. The other 5 million was just guaranteeing his second year salary which we were going to pay anyway. The 43 million is a big number but he likely won't collect on all of that. So really it is not as bad as folks like you make it out to be. It is like Haynesworth's reportedly 100 million dollar contract where he didn't earn half of that.

Do you have a breakdown showing Williams' contract is actually front loaded?

If so that would quiet me some on this issue.

From what I see, what they will likely pay in 2013 and 2014 (if Williams is on this roster and Stew gets his) will be too much for a running game when Cam is carrying a load of it. Those are the 2 years that worry me.

Don't forget that 2013-2014 window is where dealing w/ Cam's contract easily could come into play as well. Do you think they will let him go until his current deal runs out? Stewart will definately get a huge chunk of cash one of those years. A lot cash could come into play if that trio is on this roster in 2013-2014.

So if you project Stewart's money in 2013-2014

Williams in 2013-2014

Cam's new deal in 2013-2014. Ideally I would think they would want that resolved before his tiny/short 4 yr deal runs it's course. That has largely been ignored in this talk. Cam's deal has potential to be FREAKING HUGE. 2014 could be a lot different when you aren't penciling in his rookie deal.
That doesn't worry you about how we are spending on the ground? In passing league we will have a lot of needs elsewhere on this roster. I think until Cam is at least 25 he will be a staple of our running attack.

#1662024 Sherrod Martin's Replacement?

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 23 February 2012 - 04:45 PM

I'd prefer both are replaced, but that's not realistic

both physically have the talent.....but neither have impressed outside of isolated moments.

I just don't get how people can be done w/ Martin when Godfrey was allowed to suck for much longer. Yeah, he improved this year but I think he was just as bad as Martin that far into his career.

Definately could competition for both. Heck, outside of Johnson, Gamble, and Beason.......I think every position should be earned in camp.

First of all no back consistently run for 5 yards a carry. The average always is a mixture of big runs and lots of smaller ones. Home runs and big plays which result in scores are what we are about these days and when Williams breaks a big one that is a big deal and scores 7 points. You are making too little of it.

What made Stewart the better running back this year was not his running but his receiving and running screens. His rushing totals are decent but not great. He had 0 100 yard rushing games this season and in the first 8 games he broke 60 yards once. In half of those 8 games he averaged less than 4 yards a carry. Against Green Bay less than 1 yard a carry.
He benefitted just as much with big plays as Williams did and wasn't clearly better running the ball. They both averaged 5.4 yards a carry. So lets bring it down to earth here a little.

As for only needing a quarterback and one running back for the season, where have you been???? We ran the ball 445 times this year. Stewart ran it 142 times and Williams 155. Stewart has never had more than 221 carries for us. And that year (2009) we ran the ball 525 times. He has never gotten more than 50% of our rushing attempts even when Williams was out last year for 10 games. So there is absolutely no evidence to show that he would hold up if he was the main guy and got 350 -400 carries in a season. There is evidence to show that burning a guy out like Atlanta did with Turner does lead to injuries and problems down the line.

Take this year for example, Cam ran 126 times, does anyone think that the coaches are going to want him to run the ball 200 or more. Lets be serious. Newton is a quarterback who runs not a runningback who throws. He won't be running the ball 20 times a game this year. I suspect that teams are going to use a spy like we did for Vick to limit his running so it will likely stay the same but won't go up. So again, is Stewart suddenly going to run 350 times a game and catch another 45 balls for us this year?

Yeah as long as we plan on replacing him in 2013 instead of resigning him after he breaks down. The system works and it isn't broken. Stewart is good because he is in a system with Williams and vice versa. This discussion is bordering on ridiculous. When Stewart gets paid in 2013 and doesn't have a 1500 yard season I can see the same kind of discussion as we are having about Williams.

As a runner Stewart was more consistent. DeAngelo in his past was more consistent.

So no, I don't agree with the thought top tier runners have such a high percentage of runs of 2 yards or less. They don't. Williams did though.

Also, Cam, Stewart, and a cheap RB who FITS the scheme is more than enough of a running attack. Arguing you need Cam and 2 1st rounders is silly. Teams without a Newton don't invest like that at the position.....they are working on the positions that the new
rules have made more important.

I love CJ, but he is a luxury we do not need. Could have better spent that money. See what I did there? IF DWill was a 3rd stringer I may well argee that he makes too much money. Seeing as how he is a starting caliber NFL RB, his pay commencerates (sp) his performance.

Teams restructure. Teams finagle and wiggle around that cap. You do not jetison your stars at the first sign of a struggle. Of which, we as fans, are curiously left out of that loop. That mythical cap. The forborer of bad tidings. We are in uncharted waters around here. This franchise has Dynasty written all over it. Now that is pressure.

Even for a homer like me it is an exciting time to be a Panther fan. Ahh, the possibilities are endless. Cuts, signings, drafts, mini-camps, otas, training-camp. Lots a stuff gonna happen round these parts. All I want is a front row seat, cuz it is gon-b crazy up in here. Did I do that right?

My giddy be happy. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I don't see what you did there....

CJ is the only starting caliber DL man on our roster....he plays every down except when hurt or tired.

Williams wasnt even the best RB on our roster this year. Majority of the time only one RB can be on the field at a time...and Williams gives them less options over Stewart when on the field.

CJ also is young and Williams is on the backside of his career.

#1653785 Does anyone have an update on Beason?

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 15 February 2012 - 03:43 PM

ooo thread hijacking in progress, threads about Beas but I would like to add anyways. .

How many times do you need to be reminded that:

1) youre not doctors
2) you dont have the body of a pro athlete
3) you havent ever injured yourself in the way that these guys do.
4) you know nothing (xray or mri) of the actual damage, just video footage of the play

edit: The chance of tearing your acl three times is the same fluke of odds that makes flipping a coin and landing on heads 10 times in a row feasible. I understand there is concern, but be honest to yourselves as fans and stop being so fanatic. The odds that TD comes back are the exact same as Gettis'.

see your #1.

Prison rules apply in this scenario.....find the biggest person in your office and whoop there azz. Then people, by people I mean your new boss, will know you aren't to be messed with.

#1651534 Should we get Alshon Jeffrey in the 5th round??

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 13 February 2012 - 04:43 PM

Dwayne Jarrett looked 10x better his last year at USC than Jeffery did this past season at So. Car.

2 rules about WRs.

Don't draft one from USC

Dont' draft one from the school that thinks it can call itself USC

I think you, me and a few others are playing that tune to a largely hostile audience.

Will depend a lot on what happens in free agency, of course.

If Cam was a pocket passer......then maybe more people would be on board w/ the draft OL in this draft.

Cam needs a defense. More than enough OL talent if they bring in a vet RT to put that need down the list.

#1634896 The Pro Bowl is tonight...

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 29 January 2012 - 10:47 PM

Wait so because the defense is playing the INT isn't on him?

I am just saying this is an exhibition where every QB that tooks snaps today faced a different pass rush than Newton. Newton is playing w/ guys he has never played w/.......that isn't real football. So when you rush him full out w/ the NFL elite.....against a mix of OL not really knowing WTF is going on......you get poor offensive play.

So no, the INT is b/c the NFC and AFC were playing 2 different games. Yeah, Cam threw the ball. But his blame comes in 2nd to that.

Hannah Storm: So Cam tell me about your thoughts heading into next season?

Cam Newton: Well, Hannah. It's like I am King Kong and next season will be like a bowl of jello. Now, people may say King Kong can't jump rope but I will be the guy about to bungee jump off the Golden State Bridge. I want my teamates to astronauts. <flashes big grin>

....next day

ESPN Breaking News - Cam Newton hates his teammates and wants to send them to the moon.

Obama gift wrapped this election for them. They counter that w/ Newt?!?! Newt will get stomped by Obama and Obama is garbage.

#1620357 Owning what you write

Posted by DeAngelo's #1 Fan(CRA) on 18 January 2012 - 01:45 PM

You are right, but many regard Dalton as a better pure passer so based on an "educated assumption" Dalton might have thrown for 5,000 yards.

many pre draft viewed anyone as a better pure passer for the most part.....and that simply using biased opinions as fact.

If you watched Dalton all season long....I don't think many would argue he is a better pure passer than Newton either. Both have a lot of work to do in that department in terms of being consistant....but Cam's skill set allows him to make throws Dalton simply can't.

also, it isn't an educated assumption that if given the chance Dalton would have shattered a rookie record that was shattered this year. It would have been a foolish claim to say Cam would have done what he did.
