In Topic: Why Blame Gettleman?

17 March 2014 - 02:29 PM

Gettleman has a job and that's to support the Pied Pipers above him. Their philosophy hasn't changed, they just made an adjustment to quit the buddy style of Hurney, and go hard nose with Gettleman. There is still some solid two's and three's at WR in free agency. The Scouts are saying this is a banner year at WR in the draft, so it will be interesting how it plays out.

In Topic: Why is Jonathan Stewart Still on this Team?

17 March 2014 - 02:18 PM

Look, Stewart has spent most of every training camp since he came here riding the Aerodyne on the sidelines, and with heel, toe, ankle issues every year. So, what will happen is the Panthers will release him at some point and he will get a really sweet 3 year deal elsewhere. Why worry about it? Its the Art Modell model that JR admires...always next, year, sell the merchandise, stadium stays sold out, and just about every 4 years, give the fans a taste of winning, then blow up again. Cleveland, Cincinatti, Charlotte.....being mediocre makes them money without high profile free agents, feed from the draft. Love em in, love em out. NFL..Not For Long.  Drink that Kool Aid!!!!

In Topic: Smith Perspective: A Voth-man prophecy

11 March 2014 - 05:14 PM

Smith has a base salary of $11MM and a cap hit of $17MM over the next two seasons combined, along with a player option in 2016 worth $9MM. But Panthers only free up $1M in cap space by releasing him. Was this a play to knock Smith off his perch to restructure, Smith refused and it put the team in a corner? Is he a disturbance to the front office?

In Topic: Panthers attempting to trade Steve Smith.

He is as good as gone. The NFL collective bargaining has reset the numbers in the NFL. And with 4 years behind the strike, the owners have purged the ranks of the old school players with better deals. Cheaper and younger.......

In Topic: Steve Smith on Gettleman's "Evaluation" comment

26 February 2014 - 03:21 PM

I have had the opportunity to talk extensively to several former players in the NFL, one in fact is a partner in a business venture we hold together. As they have described it the private sector for those who are employed is much more congenial than the NFL once they have "used you up". It is business, but Smith, despite the love the community has for him as player, he is an old guy in the NFL and it's coming time to move him out, and anyone once they break into their early 30's the fat lady is warming up for her song cause their days are numbered. The clubs tell the players all the right things while they are useful but when the time is up, there is no service pin, cake, watch and loving going on when they send the signal it is time to go. Yes, they have been paid extremely well, but the attitude of the league is once they are gone, go hang with the NFL Alumni Club if you want to be around the league. It is a brutal body shop business, Manpower with pads.
