#3352360 What do we do now with Nate Chandler?

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 02 May 2015 - 11:35 PM

He's gotta be on the outside looking in right now in terms of getting a roster spot. Right now, we don't need to do anything with him. Bring him to camp and let him compete.

Really hoping that Taz Crockett is one of our 5th rounders if he makes it to us.

#3349636 Hill in the slot and KB/Funchess on the outside. Thats just unfair..

The biggest thing I took from that presser last night was that Rivera specific ally mentioned 4 names when talking about WRs - KB, Funchess, Ginn, and Brown. Those are your leaders in the clubhouse right now. The media had to specifically ask about Hill and Gettleman had to bring up Cotchery after Rivera was finished.

To play devil's advocate, that WR lineup would probably lead the NFL in drops.

Its also significant that a $405k guaranteed contract is more than an average American will make in almost 6 years making $75,000 a year. Sure 6 mill is alot different than 405k and he has a window to make this money, but he literally has no power in this situation

$75k is well above average.

I'd really like either Stefon Diggs or Kenny Bell.

There goes Strong.  I really hope Funchess is the real deal.  My vagina will be sandy for the next decade if Strong becomes the NFL WR that I think he will be.

Owa Odighizuwa... go get him now

The fact that he's still on the board does not speak highly for the condition of his hips.

#3348440 Panthers trade up to 9th pick of second round - select Devin Funchess

we did get help.

There hasn't been a 2nd round tackle drafted in the last 30 years that could start, and play better than what we have.

We likely could have stayed where we were and gotten the guy we got. But we gave up a very valuable 3rd to move up.

Gettleman may well be an above-average talent evaluator, but he's below average at overall draft strategy. If most of your peers and the media think a guy is a 2nd or 3rd rounder...don't take him in the 1st. THAT's when you trade up in the 2nd.

Who in front of us at 57 was even going to take Funchess? None of those teams needed WR and many of them actually went WR in round 1. Why not wait, and if you're wrong you take Strong or your BPA? Why trade multiple picks for someone it wasn't even clear others were contemplating?

Hopefully DG is right on these evaluations, but my issue is his overall draft strategy. You can't completely ignore what everyone else (your peers and the draft "experts") are saying about a player - if you do, you can end up drafting players at the wrong time.

If you're an NFL GM and you're paying attention to media "draft expert" opinion, your name is Marty Hurney.

Helluva football player, but he's a certifiable fuging idiot and that's why he's not here anymore.

Many don't do pro day 40's unless they screw up the ciombine.  Funchess did say he was up late doing interviews the night before, and was simply tired.  Don't know how true it is, but I am not sure if it matters all that much.  A 6-4 230lbs receiver who can run 4.5 can be a very effective weapon.  If nothing else, we could line him up at tight end sometimes with G.O. on the other side, along with Benjamin and Brown at the wideouts.  That could be a very effective 3rd down set.

Hopefully the 4.5 times are the more accurate reflection of his true speed.

6'4", 232lbs., and runs a 4.47 40..

Pro day times are always suspiciously fast.  No one in the history of the world has ever ran slower at his pro day.  Funchess ran a 4.7 at the combine.

Would've MUCH rather had Strong there, but I trust Proehl.

I guess we're trying to assemble a WR corps of TEs.
