#2962075 Mike Mitchell talks about playing the Panthers

Posted by LinvilleGorge on Yesterday, 12:33 AM

Would've loved to have kept Mitchell, but maybe at about half of what the Steelers gave him. When another team offers a player like Mitchell that type of contract, you do what Gettleman did. Shake his hand and wish him luck. No hard feelings. I would've left too if I was him. I think we did what was best for us and he did what was best for him. I don't blame either side for him no longer being here.

#2962026 Boomer: CAR is the best team in the league

There's a lot of football left to played yet. Maybe we're the best team in the league right now, maybe we're not. The only thing I'm certainot about is that being the best team in the league after week two doesn't mean poo.

Unnecessary Roughness Rule - "if a player uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/”hairline” parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily.”

The hit was brutal and textbook but unfortunately the refs got it right. Everyone who wants to say it was legal doesn't know the rules. Hate the rule, not the ref's for calling it. It was a beautiful hit though.

So, how in the hell are you supposed to tackle?  If they called that straight by the rule book, there would be a penalty flag on virtually every play.

It was certainly a brutal hit.

How is that a penalty?  That was a perfect form tackle.  Basically, a big hit = a penalty in today's NFL, especially if a QB is involved.

What makes you think 28 isn't in form? He looks as beastly as ever. Seems like people are evaluating stat sheets and ignoring the eye test

Wait until he gets some holes....dude looks good.

Seems to me like some people just see what they want to see and ignore the actual outcome. Stew has had some good runs. DeAngelo has looked better overall. Basically a complete flip-flop from what we saw in the preseason.

I'm willing to bet DeAngelo will rush for more yards and a better ypc average this season than Stewart will.

Highly likely considering that if history is any indication he'll play in twice as many games.

I don't get the segment of our fanbase that hates on DeAngelo for his contract while constantly defending Stewart.  Stewart's contract is worse than Williams' and there's a lot more dead money left on his deal too.  DeAngelo has been the far more reliable player.  Neither are worth the money we're paying them, but we've gotten a lot more out of the money we've paid DeAngelo than we have out of the money we've paid Stewart.

The data doesn't support what? That at 31 Williams isn't a great fit running a power scheme behind garbage run blocking?

He has played in one game. One game where he essentially dedicated it to his mother. I'm glad he had a decent game. It meant a lot from several perspectives.

But I'm not arguing this one anymore. We saw last year what he was overall....and now at a year older we aren't going to see him getting better.

The data doesn't support that Stewart is better and more suited to running behind our OL in our offense.

I don't dislike him. Good dude. We would be better off if everyone we drafted was in his mold.

Bulk of my beef has always be contracted oriented. Lately it has shifted to at 31 he is a bad fit behind our OL trying to shed tackles.

But he isn't anything special this late in his career. Isn't suppose to be. But people get their panties in a wad when how average he is now is pointed out and his weaknesses on a team with bad OL play

Granted, we're only two games into the season, but...

DeAngelo Williams:  14 carries for 72 yards for 5.1 average

Jonathan Stewart:  24 carries for 57 yards for a 2.4 average and 22 of those 57 yards coming on one carry.  Take that away and he's averaging a yard and a half per carry for his other 23 runs.  Take way DeAngelo's longest run and he's still averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

The data just doesn't support your claims.  But again, it's early and that could definitely change.

I agree that our RB contracts (Stewart's as well as Williams') are an issue, but that is what it is.  DeAngelo is probably gone as a post June 1st cut after this year.  Hell, maybe he'll retire.    Due to Stewart's contract, we'll probably have to carry him through next season, then make him a post June 1st cut after 2015.  No matter what, both of those contracts are going to have cap implications through 2017.

#2956652 Watching the Colts Eagles game

Luck's pick should've been a defensive PI Colts got robbed. I hate Foles and the Eagles. Foles blows that game without those little bullsh*t screen passes to Sproles going for 150 yards.

Yeah, because Maclin didn't get tackled going down the sideline either.  One team overcame a bad/missed call, the other team didn't.

Then learn how to appreciate Luck, Kaep, Wilson, RG3, etc as well. Maybe you should be one of those people at the sports bars asking for Colts game to be on tv (which they are anyways).

You're gonna have a tough fight with Jon Gruden to get some time in Luck's lap.  Gruden's been getting those tonsils massaged all night long.

#2955682 Mike Mitchell Sunday

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 15 September 2014 - 04:18 PM

Def a guy to keep an eye on Sunday. Polamalu, too. The way the rules are now safeties like those two just can go flying around like a wrecking ball.

I'm not sure any type of player has been as impacted by the recent rule changes than the old school, head hunting safety and that's exactly what Mike Mitchell is.  He played well for us last year and looked good, but let's not forget that Roman Harper has looked good behind our front seven so far through two games and that guy looked absolutely abysmal in N.O. the last couple of years.

Would've loved to have kept him, but not for what the Cardinals paid him. Same for Mike Mitchell.

#2953919 Superman not looking good

The poo people say about him on this board, some of it with borderline racist undertones, really isn't all that different from the ignorance that we've seen directed at our own quarterback. Yeah we lost to the 49ers in the playoffs last year, but it's 2014 now, move on.

The hate for the guy on this board is getting pretty absurd. He doesn't even play in our division.

Overrated?  Check.

Media darling for some completely unknown reason?  Check.

Douchey fanbase with a douchey slogan (who's got it better than us... nobody)?  Check.

Has openly mocked our QB who was his roommate at the Combine and who has said nothing but good things about Kaepernick?  Check.

fug Kaepernick.  Watching him completely give away the game tonight was glorious.

Political correctness >>>>>> due process and Constitutional rights these days

It's kind of scary. The media is basically a PC lynch mob.
