#2866975 Tackle might not be as bad as we thought.

I've seen Byron Bell play.  That makes me relatively unoptimistic.  Still holding out hope for Chandler.  Hoping that G-man sees Bell as nothing more than a stop gap.

#2865995 Rivera-we may get a RB

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 26 July 2014 - 08:40 PM

Rivera knows he can't count on Stewart to be healthy and he probably still doesn't trust Barner. It wouldn't shock me if we did bring in a cheap vet at RB.

#2864680 Why did you become a Panther fan?

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 25 July 2014 - 04:35 PM

I was always a casual NFL fan before the Panthers.  I just enjoyed watching high level football and had favorite players, but not really favorite teams.  Once the Panthers came into existence, I had interest in them as the local team, but there was never really anything to make me become a full fledged fan until we drafted Julius Peppers.  As a huge UNC fan, the drafting of Peppers made me fully commit as a Panthers fan.

I think Jonathan Stewart has only participated in a handful more NFL practices than I have.  I'm currently sitting on zero.

#2863261 Have drop back quarterbacks been exposed?

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 24 July 2014 - 12:38 PM

You realize this past years Heisman and national championship winner wasn't a dual threat right? Winston averaged less than 2.5 yards a carry.

Yep, black does not necessarily equal dual threat.  Hell, Byron Leftwich may be the slowest sumbitch I've ever seen try to play football.

#2863260 Have drop back quarterbacks been exposed?

No.  All of the "running" QBs in the NFL can also throw the ball pretty damn well.  The elite of the elite NFL QBs are still largely drop back passers.  Aaron Rodgers is the only tier one NFL QB who can be considered dual threat, but compared to the likes of Cam, Kaep, Wilson, and even Luck he's not that level of runner.

A running QB definitely adds an extra wrinkle, but so does a QB the level of Manning, Brady, and Brees (ugh).

Hillary still has a little something left IMO. Very little but I would tap that. Potential POTUS and all.

You can't possibly be serious. My god, man. If you're serious you should just go ahead and donate your dick to science and save it from all of the certain it's destined for in its sad, bleak future.

#2862350 Panthers make roster moves

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 23 July 2014 - 05:28 PM

Kalil is safe for this year.  He has a $7.3M cap hit, but there would be $18.5M in dead money if he was released.  The cap hit vs. dead money is pretty even in 2015 with a $11.8M cap hit and $12.1M dead money.  In 2016, he'll either be gone or get extended.

My god... we're going to have a center with an $11.8M cap hit...

#2862266 Sean McDermott

I think he fielded a horrible defense in Philly and got canned for it and a lot of people are probably wondering how much credit he really deserves for our D considering Rivera has built a top D everywhere he's been.

30 career starts?  Not bad.  Glad to see some OL depth added.

I think a better oline can mask Shula issues, but redzone redzone redzone. My GOD it's a shame that one issue didn't get fixed and it cost us big time in the playoffs. It really was against 3-4 defenses and San Fran happen to be one

Well, we had no legit redzone targets and no OL to pound the ball on the ground.  Hopefully we'll have a healthy OL this year plus the addition of Trai Turner and Kelvin Benjamin should help immediately as a RZ target.  As good of a TE as Greg Olsen is, he's definitely not the RZ target you'd expect him to be.

#2862122 Bill Barnwell's NFL Trade Values

Posted by LinvilleGorge on 23 July 2014 - 03:05 PM

Wilson and Kaepernick also enjoy being complimentary pieces in their offenses.  They're not placed with the burden of essentially BEING the offense like Cam has thus far in his career.  QB is the only significant advantage we have over those two teams in terms or our offenses.  Both the Seahawks and 49ers are much better than us at OL, RB (I hope Double Trouble is legitimately back, but recent performance heavily favors Gore and Lynch), and WR.  Vernon Davis is more dynamic than Olsen, but I'm not sure I'd call him better.  He's definitely better than the Seahawks' Zach Miller though.  So, basically Cam and arguably Olsen are our only offensive advantages over those teams.

I really hate the faith put in Ron Rivera. People think he changed his philosophy or something which frankly isn't true. Someone just showed him some relative value chart of going for it on 4th, or going for TDs deep in opposing territories, etc. These things aren't daring or innovative; they're logical.

And even if he's changed on 3-4 plays a game, he's still letting shula call the most horseshit offense in the NFL for the rest of them.

I hope they implode this year and they bring in Gus Malzahn.

Wow.  Some fan you are.

"I hope my team sucks so they'll bring in the latest college coach flavor of the month!!!"

Fans like you are an embarrassment.  Not to mention you're being dumb as hell because Richardson wouldn't even allow Malzahn to be considered even if we had a HC vacancy.  If we wouldn't look at a much more proven college HC in Jim Harbaugh, we certainly wouldn't look at Guz Malazhn and his crazy ass wife.
