It was amazing to see a guy like Greyson Allen give Duke the much needed spark that was needed. They were down 9 and were spiraling out of the game but he stepped up. Good job young man!

There are some things you just don't joke about. This is the problem with social media. The access is at your finger tips and without thinking things through, you can post something that you would quickly regret. Bad taste my dude.

I will be honest with you. I don't hate the Seahawks. I actually like the team and how it is built. Our two teams are so much alike. Old school football with pounding the rock and having a lockdown defense. Bandwagons really don't bug me too much. It happens in all sports. I have a new found respect for Wilson. After that unpredictable comeback win over the Packers, he went to pray and was just crying his heart out. To me, that is what it is all about. He seems humble and give respect where respect is due.  Good luck to your team in the superbowl. I hope you guys win. You deserve it.

My big thing is Shula has to go. Get an offensive mind OC in there that can take advantage of Cam,s strengths. Sure up the line by getting a LT and get a WR then we will be good to go

#3196860 Congrats! You wanted it and it happened. Rivera and Shula is here to stay...

Back in 2010 .. the 6-9 Seahawks had a SNF game in Week 17 with freaking Charlie Whitehurst at QB. A loss against the Rams would have sent rookie Sam Bradford to the playoffs and the Seahawks into the Top 10 of the draft. A ton of Seahawk fans kind of hoped the Rams would win so the Seahawks could get the Top 10 pick and come next year with - you would think - an extra impact player in the fold.

So what happened? Well the soft, overrated New Orleans Saints came into Seattle thinking their ish didn't stink.. and Matt Hasselbeck had the game of his life, Brandon Stokley looked 25 again and Marshawn Lynch had the best run in playoff history. They'd go on the road the next week and fight hard, but eventually go down against the Bears by double digits .. would pick 25th instead of 9th.. and be much worse for it in the end. Right?

The team believed in itself after that. Sure.. the next season they went 7-9 (in large part because the lockout forced our hand and made us start Tarvaris Jackson at QB since he knew new OC Darrell Bevell's system), but slowly it started coming together. Little by little.

And that valuable draft position the team cost itself? They likely would have picked Jake Locker at 9 had the Rams beat them. Instead they took James Carpenter, who isn't much better than Locker, but the 2012-present Seahawks don't exist without that win IMO.

The point of this post is.. playoff wins are invaluable to a young team. In 2013 you had a great regular season, but no playoff victories. Now you have a playoff win to hang your hats on. At the same point, you were down by 4 points going into the 4th quarter in the defending champions house.

If you think this is a bad thing for your future, you're grossly mistaken.

Great post! Good luck the rest of the playoffs

#3190124 Blaming Cam is easy, but often a mistake.

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 10 January 2015 - 08:38 AM

Good analysis Jeremy! Cam gets blamed unfairly all the time. I normally go to sports bars to watch the games and some of the things I hear are pathetic . In the game of football, there will be misses and sadly drops but I feel this kid gets blamed for everything. People seem to forget of sad our offense was before he got here. I was usually drunk by halftime due to how sad our O was back then. Is Cam perfect? No. No one is. He is getting better and better if you ask me.

#3189200 My Camera Bag - Playoff Edition

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 09 January 2015 - 03:32 PM

This may not interest many of you, but for those of you with an interest in photography, here is how I travel to away NFL games. (The irony of me taking these photos with my phone is not lost on me.)

Remember, I don't have the luxury of corporate backing and a large budget. I own and maintain all of this equipment. So you won't see any 12,000 dollar lenses like the big boys use. But I make do...

First up, and should not be overlooked, is travel bag. I choose to use a backpack, namely the Tamrac Expedition 8x. FOr me its just much easier and mobile to get around a crowded stadium area and in the tunnels. This thing is iron clad, have had it for years. Even accidentally dropped it in a pool once (don't ask). None of my equipment was wet.

A nice feature is the front pocket is large enough to fit a 17 inch laptop.

The monopod is mounted on the side. A monopod is just what it sounds like, a tripod but with one led. It is a back and shoulder saver on the field and a big help in keeping the frame steady. Its a manfrotto monopod, highly recommended brand. Very durable.

Inside the bag....

Camera Bodies:

Nikon D4 - The Nikon D4 is a solid football camera. Super quick reaction, durable, and amazing low light capabilities for night games. Really I have no urge to use anything else.

Nikon D3s -
The D3s is also good, but with less megapixels and not quite as good low light performance, but still more than acceptable.

(note: a good way to get my eyes to gloss over and lose interest is telling me how much better one camera brand is better than another. I really don't care. To mimic Jack Nicholson in The Departed.... I'm an artist. Give me a fuggin polaroid and I'll get ya something out of it. )

That mesh nylon bag up top? Holds the aquatech sport shield. Think rain coat for a camera. Probably smart to take it to Seattle. Obviously I don't take it to dome games.

The Lenses:

Sigma 120-300 2.8. This is my main football camera. A lot of photographers use 400-600mm to shoot football. Editors want really tight photos of players. I really don't care for that as much. 300mm for me is the ideal length. Here is why...

A shot a newspaper or magazine editor would like... tight and facial expression

A shot I prefer....

For me, the second picture tells more of a story, it even reads left to right. Of course, there is no correct answer. This is all subjective.

Sure, with only 300mm of reach I have to run around like a mad man while other guys can just hang out in the end zone, but I need the exercise.

Nikon 70-200 2.8 This is mainly a backup lens should the sigma lens fail. I will use it something in goal line situations within the 5 yard line especially if I think a run is coming.

Nikon 24-70 2.8 This is my wide angle. Used for celebrations that are close for me and player interactions on the field after the game.

Like these...

That strap in the middle of the camera bag is a black rapid camera strap. If you still use the old school camera straps that connect to the top of the camera at either end, you should stop. This new type of strap connects to the bottom of the camera and is made for super quick pull and shoot. SO if you are on a monopod with a large lens and have exactly 1.3 seconds to grab your wide angle and get a shot off... its a must have.

Overall the weight is about 40 pounds. Gives me a good amount of exercise lugging it to and fro.

There you have it, a one man show covering the game from the field on a modest budget.

Great write up! I enjoy your photographs. I liked how you used samples and gave a summary of what you used. I have a love for photography myself. I went to college and studied it. I had a website dedicated to my work and was really getting a good list of clients. Sadly life happened and I was forced to get rid of my camera as long as other things. I definitely want to get back into the swing of things but that will take time. Keep up the good work. Whether you know it or not, you motivate people by your work! I know you have motivated me.

The problem is that most of the folks who want to take their shirt off are fat and ugly and need body paint so no one recognizes them.

I don't know why this just made me laugh lol

This kid is playing with heart and determination. Even when he had a "bad game" , he ran with all he had while taking big hits for first downs. I hope he is ok and also George as well

Opinions are opinions. I honestly think if we win this weekend, it will be one hell of a game if we play Seattle. I had a family member text me yesterday and said,"Panthers vs Cowboys NFC championship." Hey, it can happen :)

#3160654 Cam has a new group of friends.....

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 28 December 2014 - 11:03 PM

Noticed Cam sitting and hanging out with his OL today, which I can't recall him doing before.

He even goofed around with Norwell a bit in an attempt to make him smile... it didn't work.

Which begs the question.... do you feel Cam has a better relationship with his line now that he isn't running for his life on every snap? Could this be a sign that a real chemistry and mutual appreciation has developed?

I just want to tell you man that I appreciate this site and your photos. Love it dude!
