#2794218 Huddle Workout Warriors

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 20 May 2014 - 12:47 PM

This seems to be a common concern. I'd lift at least some 10-15 mins. Truth is you may gain some weight at first but it's just all your fat turning to muscle. I've gained around 10lbs the last two years but I'm wearing the smallest clothing size I've ever worn and you can feel/see the muscle. I try not to weigh myself often because it can get in my head.

However if seeing the scale drop is the only thing that will motivate you to working out, then just do some cardio for a few months and then maybe you will get comfortable lifting.

Oh ok Thanks. That makes sense. I don't want to make weight my primary focus. With me, it is more so about body composition than anything else.  I want to look and feel better. Just want to live a healthy life and I know I have to make a little more changes in my "diet" to help. Enemy number=beer/alcohol.

I am trying to tone up a little and lose weight. My doctor pretty much told me to cut back on carbs and basically fast food is out of the picture. You would think I am obese by what people have been saying. As far as the gym side, should I just focus on cardio and leave weights alone if all I want to do is slim down? I am afraid lifting weights will make me gain weight in which it feels that way right now.

#2788540 Hardy ordered to turn in his guns.

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 15 May 2014 - 02:06 PM

I know someone that had a licensed firearm. He was going through a nasty divorce when his ex wife told the judge that she feels unsafe that he had a gun so he had to turn it in. Now, he never made any type of threats to her at all but he still had to do it. Not sure if this is the same

#2788291 In other news (around the NFL)

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 15 May 2014 - 11:44 AM

Hernandez indicted on 2 additional murder charges by Grand jury

I seen that and just shook my hand. Now I believe in innocent until proven guilty so I would like to hear more facts but the evidence I have heard really doesn't look good for him. I just can't see how people can take a life of another person over some petty "beef". There isn't any coming back from death. The whole "thug" image is one I never liked and wish it would just go away. Three people are taken away from their families, friends and co workers. I just hate senseless violence..smh

#2787836 Manziel mania: Why the phenomenon?

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 15 May 2014 - 06:58 AM

The thing about Manziel is I actually like the kid and I really can't grasp why people are so negative about him. I notice, especially in sports, how people can have an emotional attachment to a player whether it's negative or positive. I've seen post about how people hate him, wishes that he becomes a bust and so so. What I really don't understand is why. Does people have money invested whether he succeeds or fails? People tend forgot that these players, more so younger athletes are still young. They are out there enjoying themselves and why not. Life is too short.

I'm curious to see how he will perform at corner. Training camp will be fun

#2771231 First Round draft grades

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 09 May 2014 - 08:06 AM

I think it was a great pick! The low grades remind me of when we took Cam. KB will prove that we made the right pick.

#2771071 Kelvin Benjamin - The Right Pick

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 09 May 2014 - 05:48 AM

I agree! KB was the pick I wanted. I didn't know too much about the other prospects but I did have a chance to watch him play. I am definitely starting to trust DG more and more. I'm proud to have this kid on my team.

#2767041 Patriots to offer Jersey guarantee if player is no longer with team

I wish we could trade in jerseys. Everytime I see the Dwayne Jarrett jersey in my closet, I just shake my head at it.

#2764842 Ben Roethlisberger already misses Jerricho Cotchery

I never knew anything about JCo but everything I am hearing about the game has been positive. That's a plus for the locker room and for any young guys

#2757918 TNT should remove Shaq

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 01 May 2014 - 09:05 AM

This is kind of sad. It brings up a point that I discussed with friends. I really wish they would ban camera phones. Why you may ask? There is no such things as privacy anymore. You may be walking around walmart to pick up something when suddenly unknowingly you are part of a social media joke. I've seen photos snapped of people and posted all over the internet which some crazy caption. Not cool at all. I guess it is a different situation compared to Shaq's. It seems like since social media has become big with celebrities, they end up getting themselves in hot water by saying/posting something silly. Too much exposure can be a bad thing. Just my two cent

#2749949 Josh McRoberts has good form

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 24 April 2014 - 09:24 AM

I am not for cheering for a player to get hurt and I believe it was unintentional. With that being said, they had to foul him hard. Chances are the refs are going to call a ticky tac foul on the Bobcats when Lebron drives, why not make him pay?  You foul a player hard, they will think twice about driving like that again.

#2747966 Cam Newton and Luke's pressers 4/22/2014

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 23 April 2014 - 09:50 AM

Great recap! I wasn't able to see the video yet so thanks for breaking down the key points of his presser.

Notes from watching Cam:

- Loved the statement that he's not going to be "selfish enough to be mad" about the receivers getting contracts elsewhere.  That's an extremely mature statement (and one that DeAngelo Williams should probably take note of).

- Good job shooting down "speculation and rumors" about Steve Smith.  Yes, it was a deflection and a non-answer, but you have to be able to do that when you're dealing with the press, and he did it well.

- Pretty clear statement that you will never hear him argue with statements from anyone in the organization.  "Whatever Coach Rivera says, Dave Gettleman says, Mr. Richardson says, etc...I'm behind it 110%."

- Four words, spoken just after five minutes in: "I'm the team leader".  Good to hear.

- Doesn't care about his stats.  His job is to execute.

- "Plenty of time" to develop chemistry with receivers.  Points out they're free to meet on their own.

- Hoping for an offensive player in the draft but says it's more important to get 'the right guy'.

- Has learned that talent isn't enough.  Hard work, humility and a team-focused attitude are necessary elements to success in the NFL.

- The much quoted "I have to take more ownership in this offense" (around the 7 to 8 minute mark) is a big deal.  He says he is excited to take on the challenge and be "a leader of men" and "like never before" to do the "proper and necessary" things to "reach out to players".

- Cam makes very clear it is a team game, not a one man show.  He specifically names Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy and "Luuuuke" Kuechly as players he needs more than ever now.

- Said specifically "we" have never had back to back winning seasons.  Saying it this way Cam, who has only been a Panther for a few years, identifies himself with all of Panther history.  That's the kind of full buy in that you want a team leader to have.

- Talked about all the new receivers as guys who want to win.  Said you can tell within a few minutes of meeting someone whether you're gonna have a good relationship or not and feels positive about all of these guys.

- The injury has given him the chance to work more than usual on the mental aspects of the game, and even though he's normally a very physically active person, he welcomes the opportunity because he's always looking for ways to get better.

- Not interested in talking about his contract...at all.

Observations:

As others have speculated, you do get a little bit of a sense of relief with regard to the Steve Smith thing.  It's certainly not blatant and has probably been overstated in the media, but I do think it's there.

The difference in his demeanor when he talks about the new receivers (you could say "his guys" vs talking about Smith is visible.  That's not to say he hated or disliked Smitty in any way, but it's no stretch to think Smitty wasn't always an easy guy to work with, and now that's gone.

One other thing I notice: As you've seen with team officials, Cam seems a tad dismissive of questions asked by Joe Person.  Granted, players and reporters aren't necessarily meant to have "warm fuzzy' relationships, but you can get a sense that some are more well-liked than others.

Biggest takeaway of anything: Cam doesn't sound like a college kid anymore.  He took the podium sounding like a ten year NFL veteran and completely owned it.  He even did a good job answering some questions that he clearly found a little irritating without coming off sounding like it.  That's maturity,

One of the things you find enjoyable as you get older (like me) is watching kids grow up.  Watching this presser made me feel like that's what I was seeing.

#2746855 Cam Newton: “I have to take more ownership of this offense and I will."

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 22 April 2014 - 09:46 AM

I am excited about this season. Things were shaken up a bit ( I won't lie the smith release hurt) but I am excited to see how we respond next season. I believe we are going to have our first back to back winning season. That is what Gettleman is setting us up for. Repeat sucess and not just a run every couple years.

#2746763 Keyshawn Johnson Arrested

Posted by SpeedOFLight on 22 April 2014 - 09:04 AM

I must certainly say that it is wrong for a man to put his hands on a woman period. WIth that being said, the laws/courts can be so unfair to men who are actually doing the right thing. I seen it in action and it is sad to see. For the most part, the woman's words has more weight than the man's. I know that is not the case with all situations. If you ever find yourself in a hostile situation. It is best to take the higher road and leave. No need to argue and make it worse. Back on topic, I would hope Keyshawn didn't do anything and his name is cleared. WHo knows, I wasn't there
