#3149422 Two police officers ambushed and killed in New York

Posted by MadHatter on Today, 02:20 PM

so is coverage at all the problem?  or is the slant of coverage the problem?  is fox's coverage OK, since it is anti-protesting?

i'm just trying to understand how best I should censor media outlets

To me, the biggest issue with the media right now is NOT the slant of the coverage.  You can find either view on different stations.

The issue with the media (in my opinion) is the 24/7 nature of it and the ratings grabs that all of the different outlets are going for.

It used to be that you got the news after facts had been checked and info vetted.  However, now every outlet is trying to get the next big story or next big breaking aspect of a story....so they are willing to put anything out there as facts or evidence.  There is too much conjecture and speculation early on in any story that they are passing off as fact....and many people believe that anything said on a news cast must be true.

Sad part is that it is NOT going to change.

#3149390 Julio Jones - the problem child

Bottom line is that we have to get pressure on Ryan and the offense MUST be productive and put up TD's.

We are going to need 24-30 points to win this one.

#3149259 Finding a better job

Posted by MadHatter on Today, 12:43 PM

I'm 27. My salary has gone up an average of $7,000 every year since I started working. How you ask?

I've worked for five companies. I got laid off twice, quit once and then got fired. Then I did some consulting work, which I was able to parlay into my current full time job. And every time I've taken a new job, I've asked for, and received a higher salary than what I was paid at the last place. I've been with my company for one year, and I just got my first raise ever in my life; 3%.

Imagine that's your salary increase for the rest of your life. Because that's what happens when you stay put.

The only sure fire way I've yet found to get more salary is to move to another company for a slightly better job with a better salary. Gone are the days where you stayed with one company your whole life, got a raise every year, got a promotion every 3 years. You are in the early stages of your career. You want to get more money? Be aggressive. Shoot for a job that you think you can't handle. Don't be afraid to fail at your age. Because even if you do fail, what your next potential employer asks you during the interview is "What was your salary at your last job?" and then they will either match it, or go over that. Where you are at this point in your career, what matters is what you are getting paid, not what your job title is, not what your experience is, not anything else. What you are making now will dictate what you will make later. So always look to move somewhere with a better salary, especially this early in your career. Take risks.

I've flat out told employers that I got fired, and that didn't hurt my chances at all. I just got offered a job that pays $15,000 more than I make now, after I told them I got fired. I turned it down because although it's more money, the title would actually be a step back. And at where I'm at now, title does matter, and having "proposal manager" on my resume will not help me get the kind of job I want later. Where I'm at, I plan now to move around less frequently, and get much better titles and much better salaries when I do, which involves a lot more staying in put and getting some gold stickers on my resume.

Where you are, you should be looking to make a move about once a year, and get a better title, and a better salary. Don't stay put, or you will grow roots.

Be real careful on the strategy of continuing to change companies to get a little more salary.  This will usually work in the short term.  However, a resume with continuous moves every couple of years quickly becomes very unattractive to employers.

They are often viewed as red flags for people who may interview well, but never stay around to deliver any real growth nor progression with a company.

#3149224 Best Southern Rock Band Of All Time Is...

Posted by MadHatter on Today, 12:23 PM

CCR is a California band, not "Southern rock"...

Exactly.

Was scratching my head when the OP said CCR.

They are a fantastic band and one of my favorites....but they are NOT southern rock.

Allman Brothers has to be considered the best.

#3148844 Falcons Already Selling Playoff Tickets

Posted by MadHatter on Today, 07:45 AM

Standard procedure.

for Season Ticket holders I would agree with you....can always apply the money to next year's tickets.

But selling them on an individual game basis to the public is a bit of a stretch.

#3147673 Taking over the Georgia Dome in Week 17 again

Posted by MadHatter on Yesterday, 06:37 PM

"Again"

Lol please. You guys have never taken the Dome, your fans can't even hold serve in your own place. The only team that has taken us over in the past five years were the Steelers and the Packers, two of the biggest fanbases in the league. You guys don't compare. Not to mention the fact, that ATL fans are mostly fair-weather. Since we have a chance to win the division, tons of our fans WILL be there.

All that being fact, and you guys thank you have a chance to take us over?

Get outta here with that weakness, Huddle.

Panther fans owned the dome last season and you know it.

#3147555 Most likely playoff opponent for the NFC South Champ: Arizona or Seattle

Posted by MadHatter on Yesterday, 06:03 PM

I think Seattle overtakes Arizona for the west. Cards have no QB left.

#3147545 Huddle Tailgate Thread- *Panthers vs. Brownies*

Posted by MadHatter on Yesterday, 05:56 PM

Good showing by the huddle today.

I don't think that Browns fan trying to snake in and use our private porta john will ever try that again. He was a little snarky when we told him it was Huddle members only.

So, we had to show him a little Southern hospitality and told him to go ahead. Then 4-5 of us gave him a rocking ride in that crapper that he won't soon forget. I think it took an hour for his pant legs to dry.

After seeing these Browns fans, it is amazed any of them could actually find the stadium. I have never seen more blank stares that looked like they just got out of a special ed class.

But, we finally figured out what a Browns fan really is.....it is a Steelers fans who could not pass the iq test.

I realize where you are coming from but playing scared does not pay off in the long run.It sends a message to the team that you have no confidence in their ability to pick up needed yardage.

90% of the coaches in the league would have played it the same way.

Just because a bunch of idiot madden wannabe coaches and GM's think they know how to only makes these discussions more amusing.

#3142488 If Atlanta AND Cleveland win this weekend....

Posted by MadHatter on 19 December 2014 - 07:46 AM

Saints won't be eliminated if that happen.

Yes they will be eliminated.

If the Panthers and Falcons win, the Saints are eliminated and it sets up a winner take all game next week in Atlanta.

If the Falcons win Sun and then the following week, they are 7-9.

If the Panthers win Sun and then the following week, they are 7-8-1.

If the Saints lose Sun and then win against TB, they are 7-9....they lose to both Panthers and Falcons on record.  One more loss than Panthers and tied with Falcons (but Falcons would have won both head to head).

#3142136 Favorite breakfast place in Charlotte area?

Posted by MadHatter on 18 December 2014 - 05:14 PM

It's great. I try to go for breakfast whenever I'm in town.

There will be a wait if you don't get there early.

No wait means shitty food.....that is why I never mind the wait when I go out to eat.

#3142121 Julio Jones didn't practice again today

Posted by MadHatter on 18 December 2014 - 05:03 PM

90 seconds is way too much time to leave for someone to get into FG range to win.

And being too agressive and throwing an int ends the game.

If we had been in FG range (like we were) and had thrown an int, all of you would be screaming for RR's head saying how stupid of a coachng move it was to call a passing play....because God knows none of you would have blamed Cam for the int.

I'd be willing to bet money that had we hit that FG we'd still have lost.

I would have taken that bet....and won.
