I am back in town, so I will be there, plus one (but since it's a school night, it won't be The Boy).

#1246815 Anyone ever visit Oak Island

Posted by BMorgan on 25 June 2011 - 10:35 PM

I'll be down there next weekend, too. I hope to do some fishing either in the surf or off of the pier.
Go check out the lighthouse and the Coast Guard Station. Certain days of the week you can climb the lighthouse, and you can tour the Coast Guard Station, too.
There is also the Oak Island Nature Center, which is cool if you are into that kind of stuff.
You can catch the ferry over to Bald Head Island and check out the lighthouse there.
As for food, we usually hit Clem's Seafood and get fresh shrimp and fish to cook at the house. We also never miss the chance to go to Yacht Basin Provision Co.

#1220336 Local Honey

You should check to see if you have a local beekeepers association. They may be able to put you in touch with someone closer that has honey.
$6.75 is not too bad for a 1 lbs. jar of honey, but I don't know how supply and demand is in your area.
I did read that the average winter hive loss was about 30%, so that may affect the supply and cost in some places.

one person told me to fill up Listerine bottles with liquor.. fml... lol

Contact lens solution bottles are good, too.

And there is always re-corked wine bottles, since they let you carry on one bottle per adult over 21 in your carry on bag.

Random trivia time; anyone remember what Firehouse was originally named?

I knew them when they were White Heat.

Have you janitorial supply places around town? You may pay slightly more, but you will get a more durable bucket (Lowes and Home Depot are about 60 mil, where the standard are 90 mil).
