#2708751 Smitty is gonna be on Good Morning America in a couple hours

Posted by JGib23 on 20 March 2014 - 01:46 PM

If you "probably" wouldn't do it, then that means you think what he did was unnecessary, no?

He egged his kid on to keep crying, acted insensitive towards him and the situation, offered nothing of substance to comfort him or make him understand why, and then like the douche he is, said his kid could "go find another favorite team."

So, he took advantage of his child's emotions, filmed it, offered no solace so he could keep the effect going, and then instilled in him that loyalty means nothing.  But, by being a cockhead, he got his 15 minutes of fame and got in on the kid's much-deserved reward.  It's was pretty slimy, and I don't see what there is to dispute about that.

Again, happy for the kids, but the dad is lame.

Agree 100%.

That dad is a total douche bag and it sucks that he got 1 ounce of anything from manipulating his kid.

The Knicks and the Nets don't have a first round pick so the conspiracy theory about them winning the lottery can stop.

Denver owns the Knicks unprotected pick

Atlanta owns the right to swap picks with the Nets.

For that reason, neither the Knicks or Nets will tank this season- they just aren't playing good although the Nets are turning it around and the Knicks get back former NBA Defensive POY tonight so they might improve as well.

#2258735 Possibility of trading back into the 1st Round?

Posted by JGib23 on 14 June 2013 - 11:34 PM

The same reason we got a 1st rounder for Corey Maggette.... teams love those expiring contracts.

We paid 13 Million dollars for the first rounder we got for Maggette.
The Pistons gave us a first round pick for agreeing to take on the additional 13 Million dollars on Ben Gordon's contract.

My question is why would the Bucks give away a first round pick and acquire Gordon..... They don't currently have Gordon so why would they want to take on his contract?

In order for us to receive Milwaukees first round pick and for us to send them Ben Gordon, the bucks would send us a contract worse than Ben Gordon's or they would have no incentive to make trade.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this:
Currently the Bucks have Cap Space
Cap Space is better than an expiring contract
The Bucks don't need Gordon's expiring contract because they have cap space.

When I spoke to my rep last week they had sold $1.5M so it's a huge number... That's $1.5 M in Season Tickets because the mini-packs and single game tickets aren't even on sale yet.... That's a huge number and all they did was change the name.....

We need to be a bad but, improving team for just 1 more year and then the Hornets will have as bright a future as any team in the league.

No one knows for sure what will happen but, it would be really stupid too go to far away from the original.

I am a season ticket holder so I have received all of the promo material, and I will have a buzz city jacket as I have already re-upped my tickets for the return of Hugo. I have spoken personally with Pete Guieli and also traded emails with him and while he hasn't told me anything that he hasn't said to any of the news outlets, I have a strong indication that we are not going to see wide spread changes.

The buzz city logo is Purple and Carolina Blue... The original Hornets designed by Alexander Julian obviously had both Purple and Carolina Blue in the uniforms. I think that Teal, Purple, and the original Hugo with some updates will play a major role in the design of Hornets 2.0

In an interview after the press conference "As I posted above" MJ stated that using the same look of the old Hornets, using the same colors for a bit of cute nostalgia is a mistake. The new uniforms, logo and colors need to work for the future as well. Also said not to expect that based on some lettering and outlines behind him in the press conference.

He basically calls the Hornet colors outdated and fans wanting Cute, and Nostalgic uniforms silly, but not in a mean way. lol

You realize those aren't quotes from MJ right?

MJ's only comment on the subject that I can recall is that they haven't gotten that far yet.

They would be idiots to stray to far away from a brand that 80% of Charlotte wanted to bring back. I expect an updated version of the original with slight tweaks.

What kind of marketing idiot would try to change things completely? 80% of the people associate the name, with the colors, with Hugo, with the original logo. To try to change any of those things drastically would be beyond dumb.

King T- I disagree with you on almost everything you post... But, LeBrons reaction was awesome. That was pure joy and happiness, it wasn't anything that a PR guy told him to do, it was honest, heart felt reaction and it was my favorite LeBron highlight I've ever seen.

It would be great to have him in a Charlotte Hornets jersey when his contract expires.

Who said anything about the Hornets? (other than Michael Jordan) This is a thread created by a so called Bobcats fan who mentions that it would be great to see a team other than the Bobcats in the NBA finals. I just think that is weird.

Your not a bigger Bobcats fan than me, if you were you wouldn't comment about how cool it would be to see a team in the Bobcats division in the finals.

You could create a thread saying how cool it would be to see our 2 rookies shut down the best player in the world on our way to the finals.

LeBron James being the most popular basketball player in the world and NBA champion doesn't bother me, he seems like a good dude and has never gotten in one ounce of trouble despite being in the limelight since he was 12 or 13. Kudos to him.

The fact remains that I don't think it would be cool to see him in the finals, it would be "cool" to see MKG in the finals.

King T- Gordon is a RFA, I think the Charlotte Hornets could make an offer but, the New Orleans Angels are far enough under the cap that they could match and retain his rights.

Also Gordon is a SG not a PG. No problem on the mistake, I'm sure you will pay more attention to the NBA when the name Hornets returns to our Charlotte franchise.

#1759006 Paul Silas Will Not Return As Head Coach Of Charlotte Bobcats

Posted by JGib23 on 30 April 2012 - 05:26 PM

I don't use the huddle boards very often so i haven't had many run ins with King T.

In fact the only 2 threads I remember him from are based on the stupidity of the comments that were made in those 2 threads.

1. Jerry Richardson would never draft Cam because he was a racist and didn't want a black QB being the face of his franchise.
2. The rebrand thread, where if u support a name change, it's because your a racist.

Just my .02 - The fact that somebody with that kind of posting history, can be a moderator is mind boggling and quite frankly lowers the credibility of the site.

Now onto the coaching situation.

I really like Paul Silas, he's personable and I think he did a great job of trying to hold players accountable for their performance. With that said, I'm ready for a change, I didn't like the offensive sets that we ran at all. The ball rarely moved from side to side and and outside of the down screen where Hendo would curl around for the elbow jumpe, I don't really remember very many plays that we ran throughout the game.

I would love for MJ to somehow convince Phil Jackson to come in and run this team but, that has almost zero chance of happening.

My coaching wish list is as follows:
1. Phil Jackson
2. Brian Shaw
3. Nate McMillan
4. Mike Malone
5. Mike Budenholzer

CCS- the latest is that NBA Deputy Commish Adam Silver was in town last Thursday to meet with Michael Jordan.

Silver was here to discuss with MJ, among other things bringing back the Hornets name to Charlotte. Silver said changing New Orleans name and bringing back the Hornets name to Charlotte could be a "win-win" for both cities.

Silver also said it would not take as long as some are predicting to rebrand Charlotte into the Hornets because the NBA already owned all the rights.

Looks like it's going to happen. The question is when- not if

If you think naming team after yourself and expecting an entire region to embrace it is a way to make decisions for a sports franchise....

I've been reading more and more about the origins of the name as I had forgotten some of it, like the fact that the NBA preferred the name Spiders, and that the marketing firm that Johnson hired was pushing the Flight. The Cougars were in the running as well.

There was over 1200 suggestions

The finalist were of course

There was no public poll to gauge interest.

Bobcats was chosen because Bob liked the name and the logo better than the other 2 choices.

The Hornets of course were originally going to be called "Spirit" , the public hated it, a poll was offered and the Hornets won in a landslide and the team name was changed.......Sound familiar?

It's comical that a discussion on the nickname of a basketball team has 2 posters turning it into anything related to race.

Who gives a fug what George Shinn did for the community?
Who gives a fug what Bob Johnson did for the community?
Neither of the guys are actively involved in running either team ( I understand that Bob still owns a piece of the team)

Who gives a fug what the race of anyone is? We are talking about Bobcats and Hornets and I'm not sure of the race of either of those species.

The only things that needs to be debated are:

Will rebranding the Charlotte Bobcats into the Charlotte Hornets create enough incremental profits to offset the capital/ opportunity costs associated with rebranding?
Will rebranding iincrease the long term viability of the team here in Charlotte? (through Increased attendance, merchandise sales, etc)

If so, MJ will make it happen.
If not, he won't.
