#2960685 Homeowners: Give Me (First-Time Homebuyer) Your Advice

Posted by captfluoro on 17 September 2014 - 02:18 PM

As someone said, don't try to fix everything at once, expect to be in it for the long haul.  You will find that your house will be in a perpetual state of change.  After five years you might want to repaint, after ten you might want to remodel.  Just save up for each project.  My wife and I have been in our house for 14 years (built brand new for us in 2000) and we are currently having the wall between our kitchen and dining room taken down to create more space and light. Next project will be our master bath in a year or so.  Hopefully you'll be lucky and find someone you like (plumber, contractor) for the big projects.  Word of mouth is the best form of advertising when it comes to home repairs.

#2955677 Wes Horton: A "Did You Know?" Thread

Posted by captfluoro on 15 September 2014 - 04:15 PM

We had four girls sitting behind us that apparently were friends, family, or girlfriends of Wes Horton. Every time he got on the field, or came close to making a play they were going bonkers.

You were sitting close to where I was, they were about 10 feet away from me.  A woman a few seats away got their story.  One of the girls was Horton's girlfriend, two were his sisters and the last was a friend.  Apparently the Panthers have a program for wives and girlfriends of players where they help move them out to Charlotte and help them find a job here so they can be with their significant other.  The girlfriend has been here a couple of months thanks to the Panthers and the rest of the girls drove from Los Angeles over four days to make it to the game.

The crack about the "flyin' contraption" was the stupidest.  Guess they don't teach about the Wright brothers and Kitty Hawk, NC up in Michigan.

Either Austin Powers or Kevin Costner in Bull Durham

Actually it was Michael Caine who played Nigel Powers, Austin's dad. Movie was Goldmember.

#2751972 The Purpose for Going to College

Posted by captfluoro on 25 April 2014 - 09:02 PM

It really depends on what you plan on doing.  If you want to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer then you have to not only go to college but you have to excel in your classes.  I myself went the college, med school, doctor route.  One of my former partners and I used to talk about if we knew back in college what medicine is like today we probably wouldn't have gone to med school.  But I absolutely agree that not everyone should go to college.  While some people may not be "book smart" they may be very gifted technically, artistically, etc and a trade school or some other form of learning would benefit them much better.  I myself would love to retire in 10 years then go back and learn something technical or mechanical like carpentry or engine repair.  Any person who puts in time to better themselves or their situation in life, no matter how, is doing it right.

#2730353 The Undertaker just lost

Posted by captfluoro on 07 April 2014 - 05:29 PM

My wife was a nurse in Memphis and recovered Sid Vicious after he had cervical spine surgery. He said he had to pee so she gave him a urinal (one of those little jugs you pee in) and he said he couldn't pee laying down and proceeded to get up off the gurney so he could stand up to pee. My wife is 5 feet tall and tried to stop him but he got up anyway. She then basically told him, "Don't fall because I can't catch you." She said he was freaking huge. Pretty insane a guy who just had his neck operated on, either for a fusion or a herniated disc, and wheels out of the OR and just gets off the bed and stands up.

#2725616 So is Tiger woods done or what?

Posted by captfluoro on 03 April 2014 - 09:37 AM

I am not a Tiger fan in any sense of the word but I do respect and admire his talent.  That being said, I think he may win one or two more majors but I don't think he will break Jack's record.  The thing that will save Tiger is his putting and short game, you don't need to be at full physical shape to putt well.  But as others have mentioned, I think the rest of the golf world has caught up to him in terms of length off the tee and the other skills that made him so unbeatable 10 years ago. And the intimidaton factor is gone.

#2549480 Brandon Lafell - Ooh Wee Mayne

Posted by captfluoro on 17 December 2013 - 09:23 AM

I was at the game and LaFell locked up on his man immediately after Williams caught the ball and rode him the entire way.  It was a very impressive block and Deangelo would not have scored without it.
