#3260210 salary cap released

Posted by rayzor on Yesterday, 06:31 PM

The saints really aren't as in bad of shape as people would think. Their fans seem to think they can make quite a few easy moves and get under the cap pretty quickly. We'll see though

bolded the important thing to note in this comment.

reality says otherwise.

#3259102 How much trust do you have in Gettleman/Rivera in Offensive Tackle evaluation?

Posted by rayzor on 01 March 2015 - 08:50 PM

Rivera? Zero.

Gettleman? Remains to be seen.

pretty much where i am.

i have no faith in rivera's ability to see talent. i think he puts more stock into "he's trying really hard" than an actual ability to perform at a high level.

i trust gettleman in pretty much all facets except the OL. maybe he does know what he's doing and did a good job of spotting the talent he brought in last year, but he also brought in some real duds and he had much more faith in bell and chandler than was warranted. remmers  might be an indicator of what he can do, but he could just as much be either a happy accident we stumbled on or a flash in the pan. the jury is still bery much out on both remmers and gettleman re: OT.

i think gettleman's achilles heel will always be the DL. he's obsessed with it and it will be something that continues to come back and bite us in the ass because if he sees two people of equal talent, regardless of position and one of them is a DL guy, he's always going to go with the DL. it doesn't matter how stacked we are on the DL or how deficient the other position(s) are....the DL is always going to carry more weight in his decision.

i got stuck at mcdonalds early this morning waiting for the roads to thaw out a little and watched what they had on tv...the today show. first time i had watched anything like that in years, and they were talking about this being the big discussion and how seriously people were taking this debate.

it makes me thankful for every moment i seperate myself from social media.

it's unbelieveable how dumb people can be.

i mean it was obvious it's blue and black.

#3247843 My "seats" for the game

Holy poo those made me laugh out loud.

The Jags guy told me the Steelers and Giants fans bought up all 6 of the cabanas. We need to represent damn it!

the steeler fans buying them may make them decide to concrete the whole thing in.

kind of sad to me that the automatic impulse by many is the "gold digging bitches be lying" comments.

#3246028 G-man is gonna have to open the checkbook to Cam, Kuechly, or somebody

#3246012 Colin Kaepernick Has Twitter Rage

Posted by rayzor on 18 February 2015 - 09:54 PM

Lol his last tweet was 11 minutes after his first two...

I can only imagine him sitting there, glaring at this guy's profile in a fit of rage, desperately trying to think of an insult, only to respond with "get better at life".

don't know if the pic of squidward was intentional, but i got to thinking that squiddy and kaep look an awful alot alike and wondered if others thought that and through the magic of google i found i wasn't nearly the only one.

of course i could be just late to the show, but it made me laugh.

i don't know what's worse, the fact that he was stewing over it for over 10 minutes or that "get better at life" was all he could think of in those 10+ minutes.

#3244995 Will Gettleman be tempted to draft Gurley @ 25?

Posted by rayzor on 17 February 2015 - 09:10 PM

Well that's not very appropriate when referencing someone with the talent of Todd Gurley, but to each his own.

I have read a few articles suggesting that Gurley may still get drafted in the first round if he gets the thumbs up by teams' medical staff.  Even if he doesn't, the only reason that he won't be a first round pick is due to the injury, so I still think that your response is over the top.

i would like to think we've moved on from overvaluing RBs and drafting them in the first round.

#3233927 Coaching Change Official

Posted by rayzor on 07 February 2015 - 02:44 PM

dehaven got the job he should have had all along and we'll be better for it.

rodgers got demoted to a position more in line with what he was qualified for and is relatively harmless in that capacity. not a big deal whatsoever.

#3230876 Rivera reassigns special teams coach Rodgers, promotes DeHaven

Posted by rayzor on 04 February 2015 - 12:47 PM

some keep mentioning the fact that he moved from team to team, as if he kept getting fired.

well, technically he did...but consider the situation in those "firings".

after his stint in buffalo ended in '99, he was picked up by the 49ers. he left in 2002 because when mariucci was fired and the ownership cleaned house...not because they were doing poorly, because they were winning, but because mooch wasn't getting along with the dysfunctional ownership.

after the politic driven house cleaning in san fran the 2002 year, he went from one good team at the end of a legendary era to work with a legendary coach in bill parcells. when parcells retired in 2006, dehaven was one of a few coaches who left (mike zimmer being another) who left to take jobs with other teams.

dehaven went to seahawks with mike holmgren (who was a very good coach), when holmgren retired dehaven stuck around for the fiasco that was the jim mora year. i almost called it an era, but it was more like a stupid blip that franchise made and then corrected by cleaning house. again, dehaven was a casualty of a house cleaning.

from seattle, dehaven went back to buffalo to a team that had a knee jerk reaction and made a mistake of firing a historically good coach two days after one bad play. yet again, though, he became a casualty of a house cleaning when chan gailey's whole staff was fired.

in all of those stints, whether he was a casualty of a house cleaning or in the case of dallas, left with parcells, he had very good special team units.

when we picked him up, it was a major score for us. i don't know who was responsible for hiring him, but keeping him behind rodgers was a huge mistake. i know that the intention was likely that dehaven would mentor rodgers (who, like other ST coaches here before him, had no previous ST experience before being asked to coach STs), but that just didn't work out. rodgers has a job with the panthers for one reason and one reason only....rivera.

dehaven should have been given the job right out. promoting him now is just correcting a mistake that was made a couple years back.

here's another issue i have. people keep giving rivera props for shuffling rodgers to some other job and promoting dehaven, but it's just as likely (maybe even moreso) that gettleman forced the issue and rivera's hand and reassigning rodgers was the only way that rivera could save his old friend's job.

rivera is a great teacher and motivator, but he has his issues with recognizing talent and putting the most talented people in the right jobs and will typically only make changes when his hand is forced for one reason or another and it's only then that the right people get in the right jobs.

point is, we now have the coaching in STs that we have been lacking for a long time. couple that with what appears to be a concerted effort to improve our return game by getting actual return guys instead of just guys "we" like and want to have a job somewhere.

we have two very good kickers and we have some good ST players here, but what has been needed is management and a legit returner. we very well could go into the 2015 season with a STs unit and staff that is capable of moving from being one of the worst in the league to one of the better ones. dehaven getting the gig is a good step in that direction.
