Center Matt Paradis to Carolina/$27mm/3 years/$13.5mm guaranteed

Recommended Posts

panthersb_logo.gif Panthers sign C Matt Paradis (3 years, $27 million): B+ Grade
The Panthers desperately needed a talented center in the wake of Ryan Kalil's retirement, and they certainly found one. In fact, Matt Paradis was the top center on the market.

Paradis broke his leg late last year, causing him to miss the first game of his career. It sounds like Paradis will be ready by training camp, so the Panthers shouldn't be worried. Assuming this is the case, Paradis will be a big upgrade over the regressing Kalil from last year.

I usually reserve grades in the "A" range for great bargain signings, but I'd be willing to make an exception here if Paradis weren't coming off an injury. This seems like a perfect signing otherwise, as Paradis will be able to help Cam Newton stay healthy.

As long as we are careful with comp picks. I don’t expect to re-sign Daryl and if shitty tackles like Bobby Hart get $7m per year, Daryl can break $10m and get us a 3rd on top of Funchess. TD can cancel out Paradis.

I see comp picks as icing on the cake. I'm never in favor of handicapping yourself in the present with the hope of getting a comp pick in the future. Focus on putting the best team that you can on the field. Even the best of comp picks come in the "throw a dart and hope and pray" portion of the draft.

Yep should not, defense first pick

Or tackle if the best is somehow available. It’s going to depend on the rest of FA. GB took themselves out of the edge rushers so we’ll see what else happens.

Our chances of getting a top tier edge rusher looks better after FA with both GB and Detroit signing edge rushers in FA.

I would just like to throw out a giant Thank you to Leveon Bell for screwing around with the Jet’s heads long enough to snag Paradis out from under them. It was reported that the Jets were waiting on Bell before they threw a high number at Paradis.

PFF:

Panthers smart to invest in four-year veteran center Matt Paradis

A fractured fibula sent Denver Broncos center Matt Paradis to the Injured Reserve 569 offensive snaps into what was a strong start to his 2018 campaign, but the injury didn’t keep the Carolina Panthers from betting on the four-year veteran returning to form when healthy.

Right and having 5 top 100 darts is way better than 3. There’s a reason why NE doesn’t pass up free picks. You say you don’t want to handicap yourself in the present but if you don’t start the process sometime you never will. As a fan, I care as much about 2020 and 2021 and having a strong young deep team where we lose even more talented players because we get more shots and more hits. If they were 5th or 6th rounders then sure, but you don’t give up top 100 picks for a mediocre safety. Paradis was a big step up from even Ryan of 2018. I’d trade a 3rd comp for him. Would you trade that pick for Boston? I wouldn’t.

There will be plenty of FA safeties left and Ron did say that safety was deep in draft. We don’t have much cap space at all although plugging C IMHO means we can let Kalil go and concentrate on just tackle in the draft.

Absolutely. Meanwhile, Anthony Barr rethinks and becomes physically ill at the thought of playing for them and reups with the Vikings. LOL!

After watching his interview and his preference to play for a "winning team" I would say the thanks go to Barr for backing out and forcing a re-look at the Jets situation.

I don't think Hurney and Rivera have that luxury. They better be in win now mode. And no, I would never pass on an opportunity to upgrade a position of weakness to protect a potential future comp pick.

Yeah, the Pats do a phenomenal job of roster management but honestly I think that's 4th or 5th on the list of reaosks why they've built their dynasty.
