How Attractive is this Carolina Panthers Job?

Recommended Posts

Honestly I think Rivera would do wonders for Cleveland as far as getting those personalities to gel together and be disciplined. We are one of the least penalized teams in the league. I don’t think his in game coaching would take them over the top but he could bring respect and a strong presence to that locker room that sorely needs leadership.

as far as us. I think we are only attractive to a coach that understands that this isn’t going to be a quick fix. There’s a lot of unknowns right now. It’s going to be a challenge. But it is attractive as far as knowing you have an owner that’s committed to winning and will give you time to right the ship to consistency. And will give you the resources to do so.

We're probably the second best spot after Dallas.

Dallas wins out by having a star-studded roster in place and an owner that is willing to spend to win. The only downside to it is that the owner is also the GM and he is going to be fiddling about with everything. Still, it's a lot of money, a lot of exposure and the players already in place. You may have to break past a locker-room of people who are convinced they've already made it, even if they haven't won a thing.

Carolina has a lot of good pieces in place, but does have questions at QB and a defense that needs an identity. Cap situation isn't bad, location is good and ownership is putting good money into practice facilities and other perks. Might be a short leash and the last two coaches both got their teams to the Superb Owl once and the playoffs multiple times each -- expectations are going to be high.

From there, it's a run of the usual suspects. All are teams who regularly churn through coaches and have a bleak outlook. But hey, you might just be the guy to turn them around with a few high draft picks and a lot of luck.

Attractive in terms of a paycheck? Very much so.

Otherwise it's no different than the likes of a Jacksonville, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Miami, Buffalo, etc. A ho-hum franchise in a ho-hum market.

Compared to the other jobs that are likely to be available, it's an attractive opportunity for a great number of reasons.

For what it's worth, the Yahoo article by Charles Robinson reports that this time last year, several people around the NFL were sharpening up there resume' up expecting the Panthers GM and head coaching jobs to be open.

I would take Atlanta if i was a coach

Best quarterback situation (former MVP who still has 4 years left), and a good owner, in a nice climate, good city

Low expectations

Washington

Has to be the least attractive right?  A lack of talent, a meddling owner, and a shitty location.

Dallas

They're probably the most talented team out of all of the options, but that also means they'll have the least amount of flexibility. If you take this job you're stuck with Zeke, Dak, etc plus Jerry Jones. Would have to deal with the pressure to win immediatly and the media talking about you constantly, which could be a positive or a negative depending on the guy.

Jacksonville

Headache of a QB situation brewing. Mediocre roster. Shitty location, bad cap situation due to past free agency spending sprees.

New York

You're married to Daniel Jones. Location could be either a massive positive or a negative depending on the guy. Not much talent on the roster, but a massive amount of cap space coming your way. New York media is likely a negative.

Cleveland

You're married to Baker Mayfield. You have to move to a legendarily shitty location. You have a loaded roster, a passionate fan base, a competent GM, and some salary cap to play with though.

Atlanta

You have a good owner who is committed to winning. Decent roster that likely needs a makeover, but with absolutely no cap space to work with.

I would say that we're definitely ahead of Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Washington. We could be more attractive than Dallas or New York depending on the guy. Cleveland is definitely superior to us if you don't take anything in to account other than talent and cap space, but guys might not want to deal with Haslam, Mayfield, Odell, etc.  I think we're in a pretty good position to snag a good coach.  We're a decent location, have an owner who is committed to winning, have some good players and a lot of cap space. We're in a good spot to be turned around quickly.

I agree we may be more attractive then Jax...but how is that actually a bad location?

Opinions guys how attractive is this Carolina Panthers job? Let's compare it to the other potential openings will have this off-season with Dallas, Atlanta, Cleveland, NY Giants, Jacksonville, Washington. Thoughts?

id say its more attractive than all of them except dallas and maybe cleveland, with dallas you have the trenches fully built already, including the best oline in the league by far, and with cleveland theyre a good motivator (ron?) away from a playoff run.

the qb situation is shaky though its not impossible cam could stay and maybe be nursed back, the best rb in the league no questions asked who is also only 24, a HOF mlb. yeah we have a lot of holes but the spots we dont have holes at are filled with really good players, so i could see this place being enticing.

the jags are a talented team yes but that defense has only regressed, the deadskins are owned by dan snyder so that answers your question, the giants are just the barkley show with the added bonus of gettleman's incompetent ass, and the falcons are talented but in a division thats deathstacked with talent and their core players look to be regressing soon.

Not very attractive unless we get a top 10 pick. This is a team with an inexperienced owner. A team with no QB and a bunch of free agents. We do have 38-39mil in cap but that’s no a lot of money anymore in today’s NFL.
