Jourdan Rodrigue's Panthers mock draft 2.0

Recommended Posts

I remember hearing during the combine that pretty much every SEC offensive lineman when asked their toughest matchup said Brown.  That says a lot.

I'm not saying I would automatically pick him at 7, it would depend on who else is there, and what trade down offers I had, but I think he is a lot safer pick then Kinlaw.

I do have some concern about his ability to rush the passer at the next level, but I still think he has a great chance of being a quality pro for the next 10 years.  The issue is you can find run stuffing DTs later easier than some other positions.

Personally I think it is terrible not to draft a WR this year.  The class is loaded.  There are going to be some good pros in that 2-3 round range.  Also WR is a high value position that has heavy influence on winning.

I would have no problem with her mock.  It's much better than some the "experts" mocks I've seen for the Panthers.

Round 1, pick No. 7-12

Javon Kinlaw, DL, South Carolina (6-foot-5, 315 pounds)

I’m telling you guys, something has just stuck in my gut about Kinlaw. Free agency — specifically all the former Temple/coaching staff connections — told me that head coach Matt Rhule will have a massive amount of say in the draft class, and it makes sense: His contract runs for seven years; general manager Marty Hurney’s runs through 2020. So Rhule is going to be bringing in core guys who fit his athletic profile and Kinlaw is just that type of dude.

I see Kinlaw lining up all over the place in a shifty, aggressive Phil Snow defensive attack. In his favor, if I’m Rhule, is the fact he can blend a stout presence on the interior with versatile and highly productive pass-rush ability — and that he hasn’t even come close to what his peak ability will be. Rhule wants to develop talent, wants to develop “his” guys. Kinlaw is a great fit.

Jourdan makes a great point, athletic profiling will be a huge factor with Rhule in charge now.

I don't understand the whole argument of Brown having the higher floor and being the safer player. IMO both players have high floors and high ceilings, with Kinlaw's being higher due to his freakish measurables and athleticism.

I think Brown is getting the Solomon Thomas treatment like when everyone freaked out about his performance against UNC. Yes, Brown dominated a great LSU O-Line, but that was one game. Go watch the rest of the available game film from 2019 for Kinlaw and Brown, and it looks clear that Kinlaw is the consistently better player (and he did it with a cast of nobody's around him). The only thing I would say Brown has over Kinlaw might be ball awareness on misdirection plays.

Just because the only game you watched was LSU doesn’t mean it was his only good one. He dominated FL, GA, Bama, TX AM, and ORE as well. A much tougher group of OL than a Kinlaw faced. Has been doing it his entire career and could have went top 15 last year if he came out.

You just saw what you wanted if you even watched any of them. Which I seriously doubt from the comments.

I literally referred to all of their available 2019 game film. Learn some reading comprehension.

Your exact statement....

Go watch the rest of the available game film from 2019 for Kinlaw and Brown, and it looks clear that Kinlaw is the consistently better player (and he did it with a cast of nobody's around him).

You stated Kinlaw was clearly better in the rest of the games not including LSU. Why was that? What was he “clearly” better at against inferior overall competition? Asking for you to actually explain your statements is only natural when you seem to dismiss whatever suits your stance. Or is “Because I said so” not the overall theme of the post?

I’m an Auburn fan and Brown anchored our defense. Teams could not run towards his sign of the line and he was still constantly getting pressure on the QB through double teams. Watching the Alabama game, whenever we needed a stop the commentators would mention Brown and he would be making a play. Kinlaw is a great prospect, but Brown has been playing at a high level for several years now. He could have been a first round pick last year if he left. I think a top 10 players needs to be a can’t miss type athlete. If we trade down to like 12 and Brown is gone, then I will happily take Kinlaw.

Except you didn't ask me to explain anything in your original reply. My entire argument in that post was that people only focus on the LSU game when a more comprehensive look at the 2019 season shows a different picture IMO, and you somehow came away with this arrogant accusation that I was the one to only watch his LSU game, which makes absolutely no sense. If that were the case, why would I think Brown is the inferior prospect? lol

Don't see any questions; just someone with poor reading comprehension getting their jimmies rustled.

As for the actual argument you pretended to originally have, I'll give you an example:

Same opponent, same year. Anyone who thinks Brown played better than Kinlaw in this comparison is kidding themselves.

Again, like in my earlier post, I encourage everyone to look through all the available 2019 games and make your own conclusions. It's my opinion that Kinlaw's film looks better and that his measurables/athleticism are better as well. Not to mention, Verge has already said that the Kinlaw/Brown debate is much closer than people think. Kinlaw is 1A, and Brown is 1B for me.

You said it was “clear” for anyone to see. I asked why?

And why was that game better? Was it all the times Kinlaw got blown out of his gap on his main responsibility.? Or the times he was stood up and stonewalled while rushing the passer in one on one blocking with a G? Is it the sack? Is that the reason? Put up FLA and GA.

Lmao, I'm done arguing with someone so disingenuous. Enjoy your delusions.

Kinlaw and Brown are very close in skill level, Kinlaw getting picked over Brown would not shock me at all.

I gotta say this, after watching more tape on kinlaw im leaning towards him over brown. Dude has a higher motor and a great repertoire. Thats what worries me about brown,  he looks all strength/bull rush and not a good as first step as kinlaw. Kinlaw gives off Aaron Donald vibes and he is 6'6.  I would feel comfortable taking him at 7 after watching a lot more of him.

If we still ended up taking brown i wouldnt be upset tho.
