What Raiders fans are saying about the Carolina Panthers

Recommended Posts

Here is a quick look into some of the things Las Vegas Raiders Fans are saying about the Carolina Panthers matchup this week.

Some Raider fans see a big victory in their future.

Quote

This SHOULD be a blowout they have a rookie HC from the college ranks and they have torn down their roster to start a rebuild.
I know this is the NFL and I’ll take a win regardless of the score but we need a a double digit win to start. Traveling to the east should be a non factor in week 1.

If I had to make a short list of three teams I would like the Raiders to start the season off against - the Panthers would be on that list. Panthers are a team that has undergone a huge turnover and frankly are thin on talent.

Raiders should win this game easily.

I really can't blame them. The Carolina Panthers have undergone at least twice as much change this offseason than any other franchise. If I was a fan of the Raiders I am sure I would be calling for a huge victory as well.

However, I don't know that it will be anything but a close game. I feel both teams will play things pretty close to the vest as they get acclimated to the regular season.

Some Raiders Fans disrespect Teddy Bridgewater

Quote

Bridgewater is a back up caliber QB. He's playing on a new team, with no preseason. He is good at 1 thing - throwing short passes.

Any decent NFL defense can stop a back up QB. I would expect that the Panthers should be expecting that the Raiders will stack the box on early downs often. Aside from fooling the Raiders defense with a few long passes in running situations, I don't expect Bridgewater to challenge the Raiders pass defense very much - it should be 'dink and dunk' the Bridgewater specialty.

I don't have a whole lot of respect for Bridgewater as a QB, he's hasn't done much. I rate him as about even with Glennon.

Ivan calls it as:
Raiders 31
Bridgewaters 13

Bridgewater has been a bright spot for the Carolina Panthers this offseason. He is hugely underrated in this league because he hasn't had much of a chance to prove his worth after his knee injury 5 years ago. The biggest opportunity he has had was last season where all he did was win.

Sure, sleep on Teddy if you must. But do so at your own risk.

P.S. - I'd rather have Teddy than Derek Carr, and it isn't close.

Not all Raiders Fans are as optimistic

Quote

Wouldn't be surprised if we lose. Got a lot of rookies in our secondary and this is the first taste of the NFL without practice games. They've been going up against a very inexperienced WR group in practice. Only Mullen out of the corners have any experience in the league starting and that's half a season. If we had some experienced CBs I think they'd probably see a lot more action then expected.

A good point is brought up here. For the first time since I can remember the Carolina Panthers have a legitimate duo in DJ Moore and Robby Anderson. If offensive coordinator Joe Brady decides to show off his new toys early, it could catch the Raiders off guard.

I'm assuming you mean Bridgewater underrated? In any case, I agree and look forward to see what he can become.

Here's to hoping we can outscore them. I think the defenses are going to be atrocious in this one. Super sloppy game with alot of mistakes on both sides for both teams.

Raiders fans are roasting former Raider Tahir Whitehead on their subreddit. Some quotes I saw:

"I said last year that a playoff team does not start Tahir Whitehead at a position. If Whitehead is starting for the Panthers, I would advice Carolina fans to stock up on booze."

"Whitehead is pretty terrible in pass defense so I’m sure the Raiders will target him in coverage since he will be matched up against (TE) Darren Waller."

"Darren Waller will eat this Sunday."

They are also roasting the Panthers cornerbacks.

"Secondary looks extremely exploitable. If we don't put up 30+ we are a very bad team"

"Their defense looks like our 2013 level bad. The season we just cut everyone and started CBs that were post 4th preseason game cuts from other teams."

But I also saw a bunch of comments about how negative and sad Raiders fans are, so who knows. Seems like this game is a tossup based on fan pessimism and negativity.

Yeah, well, jokes on them. The Panthers cornerbacks are quite capable of roasting themselves.

I am admittedly a Bridgewater agnostic and have voiced opinions as such, so with that said what has he done to earn an 'underrated' tag at this point? If he comes out strong for a few consistent games then sure but he was an average-at-best QB as a starter (years ago, of course) and had as many singularly-impressive games as Kyle Allen over the past 2 years.

That said, I sound negative but that's not really the case; I'm more wait-and-see. I fully expect Teddy to do fine - not great but certainly not Clausen-esque - and just wonder where tags like underrated come from right now.

Not that I disagree with Raider fans laughing at things like Whitehead’s lack of coverage skills but let’s be real playing for them can suck the soul of any player, regardless of talent. Like when Randy Moss was apparently finished forever and then literally right after leaving them puts up the nfl receiving record with another team.

I mean in 2019, we had arguably the worst defense In the league, an offensive line that gave up the most sacks, two third string type qbs playing, the second most turnovers, and one of the dumbest and most archaic coaches in the league and still ended up with just two more losses than them.

The Panthers will suck this year but if there’s a team that could screw it all up and actually lose to us it’s the freaking Raiders.

Getting pooed on for my accurate response above. typical. Ya'll are delusional if you think Teddy is anything more than a stopgap poor mans ryan fitzpatrick type player.

If Teddy has half the slinging fun time as Fitzmagic sign me up for an entertaining season, at least the games will be very watchable instead of the run, run, pass, punt of the past.

With the caveat that NO ONE (not even I) knows with close to a certainty what to expect in the first game of an under-practiced season (with not even a pre-season game to evaluate) -- I would assert that the worst thing a team could be is over-confident of a win.

They're by far not a great team, yet by what their fans say, they expect to start with an easy win.  This is an early trap game for them -- they'll be looking forward to their next 4 games: Saints, Pats, Bills, Chiefs, so this will be viewed similarly to a college cupcake opponent.

Our skill players on offense are far more explosive than theirs, and while sloppy turnovers may frustratingly decide the outcome (the Raiders are annually more turnover-prone than the Panthers, though), my guess is we outscore them.  And don't discount the home field advantage -- it's not just crowd noise, it's familiarity and not having to travel cross-country for a 1PM game.  31-17, Panthers.

Signed, Homer (duh)

Teddy is still a pretty big upgrade for us Panthers.   Adding some Oline and WR help is also a factor.   Defense is a mystery at this point.
