Joe Person @josephperson · 1m Dave Canales says Panthers will be in full pads for FanFest. Steve Reed @SteveReedAP · 2m Dave Canales really wants fans to come out to FanFest on Saturday. It’s the only chance for fans to see the team in practice. It will be full pads.
-
Getting chippy out there. I like the energy and swagger from the offense. I expect the defense to return the favor. I also very much like Canales response to the "showboating" question. Right now just let them cook. We need this attitude.

Kassidy Hill @KassidyGHill · 8m Dave Canales starts off with an excited, "That was a great day." Practice was definitely popping today. Darin Gantt @daringantt · 7m Hunter Renfrow (hamstring) was held out today, along with Mike Jackson (toe) and Pat Jones (illness). All seem reasonably minor. Canales said Renfrow told him he'd have played this week. Steve Reed @SteveReedAP · 7m WR Hunter Renfrow tweaked a hamstring and CB Mike Jackson sprained his toe. Neither injury is considered serious. Dave Canales said if there was a game this week he could play. Pat Jones has a respiratory issue. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 7m Hunter Renfrow tweaked his hammy but told Dave he could have played in a game. Mike Jackson (toe) and Pat Jones (illness) also held out of practice. Joe Person @josephperson · 7m Panthers injury updates: -Hunter Renfrow has slight hamstring issue. -Mike Jackson has a sprained toe. -Pat Jones has an upper-respiratory illness. Steve Reed @SteveReedAP · 6m Tetairoa McMillen had had some really bad plays and some really great plays in camp, per Dave Canales. Likes the way he bounced back from an early drop today in full padded practice. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 3m Canales says that Jaycee Horn punted the ball after he made an INT today. That explains Chuba Hubbard’s punt after his rushing touchdown today. Canales on the competitiveness: We can’t have that because of penalties … then he smiles … “but I kind of like it.” Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 4m “Let a dominant play be dominant,” Canales on guys showboating to the point of drawing penalties. Then jokingly acknowledges that he “loves” the bravado. #Panthers Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 5m #Panthers coach Dave Canales calls the competition in practice “special” and says Bryce Young’s big day is a product of his receivers being where they are supposed to be. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 5m “Corey Thornton is having a great camp.” - HC Dave Canales said when talking about the physicality at corner vs. McMillan. Canales said he earned a bunch of reps from how he performed in OTAs. #Panthers (I concur fwiw)

ke Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 26m Lot of contact against Jaycee Horn but McMillan with another diving catch off a well-placed ball by BY9. #Panthers Steve Reed @SteveReedAP · 29m Oh training camp… Ja’Tavion Sanders catches a TD pass on the goal line against Jaycee Horn. Horn complains of a push off (no call). Sanders spins the ball in front of the defense on the sideline. A member of the defense picks the ball up and throws it at Sanders. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 23m Bryce Young’s best practice. Not even close. What a day for the third-year QB. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 20m Oh by the way, the period is punctuated by Chuba Hubbard touchdown run, and then a Chuba Hubbard punt toward the defensive sideline. Carolina Blitz @KeepBlitzin · 23m Bryce scrambles. Nick Scott meets him at the goal line. He connects and has a few words for Young who without hesitation claps back. B9 not afraid of the smoke. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 10m Practice is done. Easily the most competitive this summer.

oe Person @josephperson · 49m Jaycee Horn with a nice pick during team drills on a Bryce Young pass intended for Xavier Legette. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 49m Bryce Young does an excellent job of stepping up in the pocket, fires at McMillan and it’s dropped with Thornton in coverage. I think that’s TMac’s first legit drop of practice. He’s been pretty much automatic otherwise (no one will read this last sentence, I’m sure). ex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 45m Looks like a one-handed catch from Tetairoa McMillan on the left sideline, delivered by Bryce Young. Play before: Rookie TJ Luther … what a contested catch delivered by Andy Dalton. Highlight plays galore! Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 48m Bryce Young throws a pick to Jaycee Horn and comes back with a dime to Adam Thielen toward the left sideline. Competitive series. Person @josephperson · 39m Ryan Fitzgerald had his worst statistical day. 2-5, but all three misses would’ve been good on regulation goalposts. Joe Person @josephperson · 46m One-handed catch by Tetairoa McMillan on a fade pass by Bryce Young. 11v11 Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 35m McMillan with an excellent diving catch on a low throw by BY. Dude is bouncing back after his first drop in a big way. Makes another catch to follow that one up. ike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 30m JT Sanders with a catch over Jaycee Horn for a TD in RZ 11 on 11. Arguably offensive PI. ike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 29m Chau Smith-Wade with another near pick in 11s on a throw from BY9 to Legette. #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 30m JT Sanders with a touchdown in red zone. Fade pass by Bryce. Jaycee Horn in coverage. Sanders spun the ball in front of the defensive sideline after the score. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 29m This red zone drill is electric. Among the many highlights: JT Sanders isolated with Jaycee Horn. Bryce Young launches a perfectly placed back-shoulder fade. Touchdown. Sanders spins the ball in front of the DBs afterward. Mike Jackson throws the ball back at him. Feisty!

And apparently you are the one with no memory, lusting after a Jags cast off lol.

Joe Person @josephperson · 1h Chau Smith-Wade with nice PBU on Adam Thielen. Pass a bit underthrown by Bryce Young. Thielen didn’t have the cleanest release. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 1h Chau Smith-Wade drops a pick after jumping a route by XL from No. 9 in 7s. Excellent read and react by the second-year DB. #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 1h Bryce Young with a dime over CB Corey Thornton to a leaping Xavier Legette who made the catch between Thornton and Nick Scott. Someone from the sideline yelled out “that’s nasty.” #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 1h Chau Smith-Wade jumped the curl route in front of Xavier Leggette. Should’ve intercepted it. Dropped it. 7v7 Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 1h In 7s work. Chau Smith-Wade jumps a button-hook run by Xavier Legette and nearly picks off Bryce Young, but can’t hang on. Great anticipation on the ball nonetheless. Joe Person @josephperson · 51m Sam Martin punting for the first time at camp (at least while the media has been here). Horn, Blackshear, Moore and Etienne fielding. Horn just dropped 1. Joe Person @josephperson · 51m Horn comes back with a nice return on the last rep.

Captain Morgan started following Wed practice tweets

dgar Salmingo, Jr. ✌ @PanthersAnalyst · 1h CB Mike Jackson apparently sitting out of back to back practices after missing yesterday too Joe Person @josephperson · 1h Hunter Renfrow not practicing today. Currently stretching with the injured guys. Kassidy Hill @KassidyGHill · 1h If Chau Smith-Wade isn’t running a play, he’s dancing, without fail Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 1h #Panthers attendance notes for second padded practice: Pat Jones II, Hunter Renfrow & Mike Jackson (again) in street clothes. No Chandler Zavala (expected). Will keep an eye on Derrick Brown, who is out here but had “general soreness” yesterday (not in his knee — don’t worry). KassidyKassidy Hill @KassidyGHill · 1h Jaycee back in pads today Hill Jaycee back in pads today

I definitely think Coker is our most promising young WR based on his play on an NFL field.

MLB Devin Lloyd for WR Jalen Coker??
BEASTfromdaEAST replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
You right but IMO Coker last year proved it. When AT went down he was the only one make plays. Making side line catches, route running. The guy was overlooked and DM made a great guess with picking him up. -
We don't even have a definite strength. We have a lot of unproven young potential that a lot of people are trying to project into a proven strength. These guys still have to go out there and prove it on the field but some folks are ready to ship off the one youngster who has actually shown the most. That's weird.
-
I did the same math.
-
A lot of times that fifth year option is just picked up to buy another year of having a guy secured and an extension is worked out before that fifth year gets here. It's just a way to help secure a young talent and buy you time. Most fifth year options are picked up and honestly, if you're not willing to pick up a 5th year option on that position then that position should probably be off your 1st round draft board.
-
Agreed. the point of the article, though, was that the Jags (or anyone else) wants to guarantee a ILB $14.5M for 2026. Lloyd has been solid, but it looks like the Jags are already trying to draft his replacement for 2026.

MLB Devin Lloyd for WR Jalen Coker??
BEASTfromdaEAST replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think it's very Carolina Panther fans of us to finally have a strength on this team and fans want to blow it up..... Coker IS part of the reason it's strong. Can't count on AT or Renfrow to finish season healthy. BY needs all the help he can get. We roll the dice on ILB this yr n if it doesn't work out address next year in the off-season. End of story Our starting WRs for the next 2yrs min should be Tmac, XL n Cokeman -
No one knows the answer to that question. Maybe he had a family vacation planned, maybe he was sick, maybe he had an outstanding warrant in Minnesota??? Only the team knows, and they ain't sharing. We can't just assume that it means that some sort of sordid drama is going on. I agree that Lloyd would instantly be our best ILB, but you're making too much out of a missed weekend.
-
You can't really pay much attention to what is said in these regards. You don't get maximum value for a guy by telling the whole league you're ready to send him packing. Actions speak louder than words and you don't decline the fifth year option on "undoubtedly a key piece".
-
I think they likely strongly value his presence both for Bryce and the young WRs which is completely understandable and I'm all for keeping him. I'm just saying that if Renfrow can largely replicate it for a lot less money then it frees us up to make a move.

MLB Devin Lloyd for WR Jalen Coker??
Dingo_ate_Babies replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I would consider trading Thielen as well. I have a feeling they wont considering they just gave him a pay bump. I would hang on to Renfrow, because he’s can essentially replace Thielen as the old reliable WR (who is retiring after this year anyway). -
yep, and on the flip side, Jax has not expressed any interest in trading him that I've seen. The article said "Lloyd will undoubtedly be a key piece." Fun offseason what-if game to play though.
-
Honestly, I'd trade Thielen before I'd trade Coker. If Renfrow keeps showing out it honestly might become an enticing option if he's up for it. He'd probably just retire if we tried to ship him to Jacksonville but let's say somebody like KC for instance had interest? Not sure what their LB depth chart looks like but something like that could make a lot of sense. Thielen could go ring chasing with the best QB and offensive coach in the league and we could turn an aging WR into hopefully longer term roster building blocks.

Honestly, let’s dangle David Moore (who probably wont make the team) as trade bait for a ILB to a WR needy team. Nothing to lose. No way you give up Coker for one. -
I'm not to sure it's a solid argument to try to estimate what he will do this season, BUT he's had a solid 3 years in the league. Here's his numbers compared to Jewell's for the same time period. I can see the logic of getting a starting MLB for a (at best) WR4. AT, XL and Tmac are certainly our top 3 guys IN 2025. Certainly worth pondering.

Training camp just started and it's already starting... https://www.facebook.com/reel/24277303321904901/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v LOL No one believes you and you have fan pages sharing this with a "Play him or trade him" headline. Oh wee mayne. This is why no front offices wanted any part of this.
-
Honestly, it only makes sense if you're trying to chase being the best bad team you can be this year. The number one question we need answered this season is whether or not Bryce is our long-term franchise QB. Trading away a second year WR who was second on the team in catch percentage, first in yards per target, and who clearly outplayed your 1st round pick for a likely one year rental fill in LB is exactly the type of short sighted desperation moves that has made us the worst franchise in the league under Tepper. We gotta stop making these types of moves and just focus on building a good organization and a good roster. Lloyd is a JAG LB another bad team and awful defense is wavering on and a couple of Panthers fans are salivating over him. Oof. We just need to be patient and wait. Definitely make some calls around the league to teams deep at LB and see if there's an opportunity to add one for a late round pick. Definitely shop the waiver wire hard. The reality is that LB is almost certainly going to be a weakness for us this year. We weren't fixing our entire roster in one off-season and we're not fixing an overall weak positional group in late July. If you trade for Lloyd LB is still a weakness and you've given up a young promising WR who could potentially help you answer the question of whether or not Bryce is that guy. That's bad football business.
