Anyone left who does not believe in Bryce ?
Joe Bear replied to Frank9999's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think he said Stroud was having a pedestrian game. One TD is pedestrian, considering five Young TDs in one game was described on this board as "efficient" and "not bad". If five's efficient, that standard implies that one would probably be trash. Stroud also has one of the best defenses in the NFL to lean on when he's having a pedestrian game, while Young has one of, I'll be kind and say, one of the three worst defenses of all time -- a defense that allowed 653 more rushing yards than the 31st-ranked defense. A lot of that falls on injury luck, which has not hurt Houston but destroyed the Panthers in the sense that two of the top three defensive players on the roster were lost for the season in Weeks 1 and 3 respectively. But it's impossible to blow out a team when you put up points but the defense is swiss cheese. Stroud knows he can score 20 and win. Hell, Young's had to be pushing or above 40 the last three weeks just to have a chance. It's OK to be cautiously optimistic about Young. Excited, even. Convinced he's a star? Some are. I'm not. But hey, he could be. This is the first year in a long time that you're entering it with hope of genuine good QB play. -

Stroud's gotta be the NFL's most popular player. He's a hit in Houston, but he's No. 1 among Panthers fans. -
Bryce Young aka The Reaper Claims Another Victim
Joe Bear replied to Prowler2k18's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t count that one because it wasn’t because of that game so much as it was the whole season. Can’t say Penix got 3 Panther defensive assistants fired, because it was their 17-game body of work that did. -
4-13 for 41 yards and an INT when not throwing to him. Stroud’s also made a lot of poor throws. Lucky to avoid a second INT.

Herbert has been dogshit.

Legendary Panthers LB Denzel Perryman.

Probably not a ton of value. The Falcons shelved their message board completely. I wanted to go see them complain, but it went to a user-created forum where I had to join to even see anything.

This was Carolina Growl? I vaguely remember that.
-
Really? A lot of people I know thought he was a disappointment until 2023.

Good first year. Five wins beat my expectations for sure (as well as the bookies’). I’m hopeful for the first time in years.

72 for Zavala is probably more than he’s ever gotten in a two-game stretch, let alone one.
-
It’s a lazy one. See UDFA WR, see another UDFA WR, they’re obviously the same.

That regime is so recent but it seems like it was years ago now. Hope McCown gets a better job than Jets HC.

What were your thoughts on Derrick Brown after 2022?

Imagine being this deep in emotional investment to hating a player on a team you like. It’s pretty damn funny. I’m far from Young’s biggest fan and I’m not convinced yet he’s a long-term answer, but at least he’s done enough to show he could be. And if GWD success rate makes you feel better as you cuddle up in your Texans shirt, hey, far be it from me to try and stop you.
-
Love how we track GWD success rate but not GWD by themselves. Wonder why.

Whenever the Panthers start a practice squad player at WR it’s always “HOW MUCH HELP DOES HE NEED”

Touchdowns in 2024: Young: 21 in 12 games Stroud: 20 in 16.25 games Looks like Stroud had some catching up to do when it comes to scoring points. #learntonotice

I did it because I had a hunch the people who were separating their shoulders patting themselves on the back for their opinions were in fact wrong about QBs before. Fifteen seconds of searching proved that to be the case. Again -- pointing out when the smartest people in the room have poor takes like those they disparage doesn't make me a Darnold fanatic anymore than it'd make me a Mayfield fan if I did the same thing, only a year later. That said -- Darnold's a product of what's around him being exceptional but it doesn't mean he's a bust. Brad Johnson and Nick Foles, among others, come to mind re: QBs elevated by their teams to Lombardis. I think history's proven no one could win with Matt Rhule as the HC. Steve Wilks took that same team to the brink of a division title and made it relevant for a month (the only month it's been relevant since Tepper bought the team).

And yet if CJ Stroud or Drake Maye threw it, it'd be yet another reason he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I don't mind people downplaying things a player does, as long as they're fair about it. So if someone says Young looked better because his line performed better and WRs got open, I mean, yeah. You just described Stroud's 2023. But when a young QB on another team does something like this, it's a cool, super-impressive highlight and it's evidence he's better than Young; when Young does it, well, it doesn't count because reasons, and he actually sucks. #noticing

Huh? You've missed the point, my guy. I was saying that the quintet of people here who fashion themselves as the smartest people in every room espoused hot takes about players who eventually panned out, too. That was the entire focus: your own hypocrisy. I'd take any QB who could help you go 14-3. I don't give a damn about Darnold otherwise.

"I'd rather lose with Andy Dalton than win with Bryce Young" is a stance.

What happened to wanting to win this afternoon lol https://www.carolinahuddle.com/topic/267356-week-18-game-thread-cats-vs-birds/?do=findComment&comment=6633019

100-1? Gotta be a record. Well-deserved record, too.
