Chuba Hubbard is expected to miss Week 5
Navy_football replied to CC Rider's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not sure about the intermediate stuff. But I think Horn is more of what he's used to on deep routes. Small and quick/fast. Bryce really had to learn to put arc on those deep passes for the big plodders/long striders he's had with the Panthers. A guy like Horn has the shiftiness to adjust to deep passes with less arc. Hopefully they at least TRY to test that theory. Renfrow is not a deep threat. He has never in his career been a legitimate deep threat. -

I think Chuba is better in pass pro. I think Chuba does a better job setting up blockers, while Dowdle tends to just want to juke or outrun defenders. He has more big play potential, but probably won't get you the consistent numbers. He'll get you in more 3rd and long situations. Now I'm actually excited to see Etienne get more burn. That kid has big play ability written all over him. And he is NOT a punt returner. -

Got you. Don't want to hash out disagreements about the QB either. This is really about the WRs role in pressuring safeties. Speed will open up the field of play. We're constantly faced with all 11 defenders within 15 yards of the LOS. That's not a sustainable way to play offense. I think Carolina gets as much Cover 1 with a Robber defensive looks as they get Cover 2. That has to change. -

Legette isn't shifty enough. Just get a hand or body on him and he's all of a sudden a 4.7 guy. Which is fine honeslty. I'd rather see him play like he's 220 pounds than like he's a burner anyway. Gotta be able to out muscle 180 pounds CBs. Just have to. -

I wouldn't want to see him on the outside either. He can press safeties from the slot and allow TMac and company to work underneath. Safeties have to back up if a guy is streaking by them - even if Bryce refuses to look their way. -

Agree. Agree. Agree. Horn should get snaps based on being the only WR that can actually stretch the field and pressure safeties with speed. -

What about Jimmy Horn? Shouldn't he be in the mix? -
With the 1st Pick in the 2026 Draft....

Honestly... If BY requests a trade or a big extension after what he's shown so far, then so be it. This hasn't been a great situation for him but he doesn't have a resume that'll hold any leverage. Ideally he'd take what he can get and then try to prove himself. A lot of QBs have had success betting on themselves in contract years. -

He was pretty good the backend of last season. The first year and a half was really bad though. Really bad. No arc. Just linedrives 40 yards down field, leaving no room for error. It's perfect or an incompletion. -

So true. He makes you prepare for something totally different at the position. I'd love him for that alone. DCs hate prep when there's a threat of that dude taking the field. -

He's hit Coker, Legette, TMac and Thielen with beautiful passes downfield. He can. He just doesn't. Which again, is even worse than not being able to. Too many short passes leaves opportunities for something to go wrong. And it often does. -

No argument there. If it isn't his presnap read, then he ain't likely even trying it. But when decides to throw deep based on coverage, he's shown he can throw with accuracy. -

XL is a plodder. He doesn't have quickness to go with the straight line speed. A CB could run a 4.6 and easily cover him deep just by getting a hand/body on him. He doesn't play big either. TMac is not a burner, neither was Funchess. But if you throw a Ginn on the field with Funchess, then you might have something. Bryce can throw a deep ball. He just doesn't. Which is probably worse. -
Then he'll be looking for a new job soon. I don't think he should do both.

Don't have deep threat at receiver. There really is no speed at the position. The position that should be heavy with speed is anything but. Cam had Smitty, LaFell, Legedu and 2 all pro TEs for underneath stuff. This receiving group is made up of glorified TE type WRs, and a rookie WR with a ton of potential that still has lapses in focus right now. -

Only way I'd pick up that 5th after this season is if he finished with 4000+ yards and 25+ TDs. Really don't think that's happening and would take a HUGE turnaround. -
I think he could be a better HC than playcaller. Not sure why he abandoned putting the QB under center as much after the first drive - until he brought Dalton back under center at the end. FYI, those were the 2 TD drives. Bryce missed a couple of throws. But it wasn't as bad as I thought when I was watching live. He was successful for almost every playaction roll out from under center. And then we stopped doing it. The Patriots didn't stop it all game. They actually had a few "DJ Johnson-level" lose contain ends.

No idea. I guess you go with what you have until you've created the right environment for a rookie. Does no good to ruin another 1st round QB. But can't give Bryce an extension. He hasn't earned that in any way, shape or form. Let him fight it out in camp with Hooker and Dalton. We're in QB hell right now, but you can't keep blowing your rent money on the lottery. -

I hear you, but... Ickey is nothing like Gross. Chuba is nothing like Stewart and Williams. I like Tremble, but he ain't close to Greg or Shockey for that matter. All pro Center that could call the protection. Smitty... TMac has shown potential but he isn't the playmaker Smitty was. Not yet anyway. A very good defense that needed the ILB to bring it together after Beason blew his achilles in the first game. Insert Luke in 2012. This team doesn't have a WR that threatens deep. Still need that guy. Too many holes to drop another rookie QB in. Not just offensively, but defensively too. Hard to ask a rookier QB to get into shootouts every game with this receiving corp. -

Well, it should NOT be a QB. Just like in 2023, this team ain't ready for a rookie QB. Oline, LBs, Safeties, pass rushers, TEs, and yes - WRs. Build the team, and then draft a QB. -
Xavier Legette has checked out. I see no fight in this manman
Navy_football replied to Gipetto's topic in Carolina Panthers
The thing is... Ladd was the big swing. Anybody could see it. The ONLY concern was if he could stay healthy. Other than that, he has good size, great hands, great route running, and big play capability. Legette was just heavier. Roughly the same height and the exact same 40. -
This is so funny to me. First off you're comparing a 3rd year player against HOFs. Every QB you just mentioned is a HOF level talent. That's why I said current QBs, but anyway. So you think Manning made Thomas and Sanders? What did they do after he retired? Edelman is better than any WR this team has ever had except Smitty. TBD with Tmac. Dude was a pro bowl level punt returner before he started getting WR touches because of guys like Welker and Randy Moss! He was such a good athlete that he even played CB in big moments. Frigging Super Bowl MVP! Brees wasn't Brees in SD and he never had a squad as bad as this one. Cam, I'll give you that. But we're talking 2015 Cam only. Every other year he had better receiving targets including 3rd leg Greg. And Aaron Rodgers. Really? He sat behind a HOF QB for 3 years before he even started. And then he had Driver and Jennings. You're trying to argue just to argue. The truth is BY's rookie season has one player that's still contributing on an NFL team, kind of - Thielen. Second season, not much better. This season, at least he has a #1 talent even if he is a rookie.
-
So who's throwing a 60 yards hail mary from a dirty pocket? You getting real carried away right now. Every NFL QB isn't Superman (Cam Newton).
-
Honestly, who is on this long list of current QBs that have done more with worse receiving targets? Even Mahomes had the best TE in the league his entire career. And started out with the friggin Cheetah! Bryce does enough to make himself look bad, we don't need to be making up stuff.

I am not arguing with you that he didn't have world class WRs at Bama, but my statement stands. They still would have been much better than anything Carolina has put out there not name Tmac.
