  1. If Ladd is really there at #33, I'd go Ladd and then Pearsall at #39. WR problems solved for the next 5+ seasons. I was a Coleman guy at first, but I just don't think he'll be a consistent contributer. He'll make a few highlight reel plays, but have like 3 catches for 35 yards a game. Probably a great redzone target too. I think a QB's best friend is having multiple options that can win their routes. That way, the first or second read can get the ball instead of having to progress to your 3rd or 4th options all game, every game. Not an easy task for a young QB.
  2. Yeah Chris Scott started the season at RT. Not a world beater but not a turnstile either. Better at run blocking than pass pro, but physical either way. Don't forget Chudzinski at OC. That was the key to it all. And it is infinitely easier to play QB when your first read can get open at a high rate. When you're constantly progressing to your 3rd and 4th read, AND your o-line is bad... Well, good luck and pray you don't get injured.
  3. I thought they cancelled that second Jets practice because the oline couldn't pick up on stunts. They were getting to the QB on every single drop back, and he was legit afraid someone would get hurt. I agree it was an indicator of how the season would go. The oline was atrocious.
  4. I don't get it. So the Panthers should just keep building up a top 5 defense (by yards allowed), so they can keep losing games because they can't score more than 10 points? That just doesn't compute. And losing Burns, Henderson, Luvu and Bell doesn't make that big of a difference taking into account who was picked up in FA on defense. The defense has already gotten better personnel-wise IMHO. Much better actually.
  5. I think it matters 100% which position you choose. I think the Panthers' offense was so bad last season (heck for the last 4 or 5 seasons really) that you almost have to ensure that side of the ball improves. I usually agree with BPA only approach, but this team is different. The defense will be ok (good enough to compete - honestly, I think they'll be better this season with the additions and subtractions). And with the NFL geared towards scoring, you need proficiency on the offensive side of the ball in order to win games - especially ones that matter. This isn't about Bryce Young. This is really about improving the offense with or without him at QB. Bad oline, WRs that couldn't separate consistently, archaic playcalling, bad QB play - all led to ridiculously bad offensive production. The defense lost Horn and Thompson last season, and Burns almost checked out after week 1, and they were still good enough. The offense, on the other hand, can be blamed for all 15 losses.
  6. You know... Panthers decided to skimp on the last #1 pick in the draft QB this team had. Squandered an opportunity for a dynasty, because they wanted to control the clock. Rivera...
  7. If the right edge rusher is there. Then and only then do you pick a position other than WR. Of course that assumes one of either Ladd or Mitchell are still available. Either would be BPA at position of extreme need.
  8. If Ladd and/or AD Mitchell are available at 33, they have to take one of them. Unless Charles Woodson got cloned and delivered as a 21 years old, the pick should not be a CB. Edge rusher? Maybe. WR or edge rusher only with that pick.
  9. Aren't Thielen and Diontae Johnson's contracts up after next season? Thielen might retire after next year and Johnson is looking for a BIG payday. If the Panthers can somewhat replace both of those guys in this WR-heavy draft, wouldn't that open up a ton of resources in 2025 to apply to other areas? I just think this should be an offensive draft. A Center, 2 WRs, and a maybe TE - though I'm fairly high on Tremble. There are a bunch of low-floor WRs even in the 3rd/4th rounds. Stout Centers and play making TEs will be available there too. This defense needed a couple of pieces after losing Luvu, Burns, and Bell. All replaced with accomplished vets. The offense needed an entire friggin overhaul. No one played well. Playcallers included.
  10. I'm confident Bryce can get the ball to a receiver downfield if given a somewhat clean pocket. He missed on the handfull of deep throws, but every QB misses those throws at times. He just didn't take enough shots. That's a problem in itself, but a different problem. No one is hitting a high percentage of deep balls with just ok receivers and a low-end o line. Do you really think Bryce can't accurately throw over 40 yards, when he actually overthrew his deep passes to Mingo and TMJ last season? They weren't underthrown.
  11. Tedd Ginn could run by anybody. Anybody. If you tried to press him and missed, you had better hope the QB wasn't looking his way. If you let him break your cushion within 5 yards and didn't turn to run, same thing. But then again, you had a 50/50 chance he would actually catch the ball when it hit him in the hands and chest.
  12. So the post title is a little misleading. Not sure if intentional or not. It says Tepper reviewed the playcalling to ensure it was in alignment with analytics data. Apparently it wasn't, and that helped lead to Reich's firing. Tepper was not sending in plays on game day, or asking for certain playcalls prior to games.
  13. The Panthers aren't drafting a QB early next year. I guess it's a remote possibility, but Bryce would have to be worse than last season for them to do that. And that just ain't gonna happen. He gets 2 more seasons before they would give up on him. 2026 is the earliest they'd actually draft his replacement. Focus on building the rest of the roster and earn a QB. Gotta stop trying to buy one with extra draft capital.
  14. In this draft, because it's so deep at WR, there will be 1st and/or borderline 1st round talent with both picks 33 and 39. Do not trade down to actual 2nd or 3rd round talent areas just to accumulate draft capital. Quality is more important than quantity. Mainly due to free agent acquisitions. For the first time in a long time, the FO has actually set the team up to take a couple of homerun swings. Don't get timid at the plate now.
  15. The Panthers would be a really good situation to put a rookie Center in. High level vet OGs and at least one probowl level tackle. They would all be learning a new offense, so there will be some growing pains there. Other than that, this would be a good time to get a young center that's ready to get significant playing time. Maybe not start day one. But should take over by game 6.
  16. I doubt any team gives the Panthers the true value of passing on a McConkey or AD Mitchell or Chop Robinson or JPJ. The draft is quality over quantity. Quantity doesn't mean jack if guys aren't contributing on games days. And if a team REALLY wanted a player enough to give up anything remotely valuable enough (to me that would be a future first/second and their current second and third), they would have drafted him with their 1st round pick. Not waited until the 2nd round. Too many WRs will be available, to a team devoid of WR talent, to start playing around with draft capital.
  17. Yeah, when he ran, Cam punished defenders. Sitting in the pocket with slow receivers, bad schemes/playcalling, and bad protection, allowed Cam to BECOME the punching bag. Dang, after seeing that written down, it's very similar to last year's situation. Biggest difference being Bryce ain't Cam.
  18. Touche. That is indeed genious. Luke was slipping then. Should have had P Diddy set a little something up for Vonn Miller before Super Bowl 50.
  19. Speed kills. Not just straight line speed. Quickness and acceleration. I'd take Ladd and Keon. And then the best Center remaining with 65. I'm ready for my Carolina Panthers to fully embrace becoming an offensive-minded football team. Let's lose every game 40 to 45 this season. Then we can cover the defensive holes next offseason. I'm tired of not being able to score double digits. Losing 9 to 3. It's friggin 2024, and that shiite is embarrassing!!!
  20. Maybe if they add picks this year, but even then - it'd be a hard sell for me. This might be the best draft in recent history for the Panthers current needs and draft picks situation. There will be starter level talent at positions of need for this team at 33, 39 and 65. Could come out of this draft with the best receiving group since Smitty, Moose and Ricky Proehl. And solidify one of the strongest olines they've ever had. And this is coming after a year when they had their worst receiving corps and olines ever. Would be such a Panthers move to screw that up just to accumulate draft capital. Capital that they'd likely screw up anyway.
  21. He's definitely a top inside LB. Lawrence Taylor (LT) was the baddest mofo I've ever seen on a football field. Maybe not as cerebral as Luke, but that F'er literally scared other alpha males! Like the Mike Tyson (with Cus) of the NFL.
  22. Brandt Tillis is a damn magician!!! He really made the cap an illusion.
  23. I think that's the Titans. But, if both their tackles are that much worse than Ickey, then they won't be able to pass at all. 9 at LT and 43 at RT. Never should have let their star RB go.
  24. I'm really starting to think Keon might be the guy. If Ladd is there, then that's a no-brainer. But Keon will likely be there at 39. He really could be the target. I just don't like Legette in the second. 3rd round? That would be a win.
  25. Burns is a very good athlete. He'll beat OTs that aren't technically sound. If he had to play Icky twice a year, he'd have an easy 5 sacks in those two games alone. He needs to become a more consistent tackler and be more under control at the point. He probably misses just as many sacks as he makes. Like gets there and then misses the tackle. Plus, once teams start running at him, he starts to lose interest in the game. If my offensive tackles were weak in pass pro, I'd run right at Burns the first 3 drives. He'll give you 5+ yards a run, easy. You can even get fancy and use a TE to kick him out. And that's if he doesn't just get too far upfield that he takes himself out of the play. Yeah, he's not worth 20M+ a year. He just isn't.
