  1. Treash: Regrading the 2019 NFL Draft | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF Needless to say we did pretty good with Burns For all of you Parsons fans who got excited over Devon White's last game, check out the summery on him. I definitely see a lot of "cant miss" guys that did miss. I think everyone would be better drafters if they got that mindset out of their thought process also they might be more willing to trade down.
  2. With Ron it always felt like he was more concerned with hiring coaches he was friends with, or in the very least were loyal to him. I'm hoping Rhule is the opposite of that.
  3. What people don't' realize is that there isn't a huge difference in the top 20 RBs or so. Most of the difference with yardage totals is a product of usage, not ability. CMC averaged 4.8 yards a carry last year, Antonio Gibson (rookie for Washington) averaged 4.7. CMC got more carries so his yardage totals look like more. A good WR will get more usage because he will get open more. A RB doesn't have to get open for a handoff, their usage is a product of the play calling. People like to argue if RBs are important, it not that they aren't important, its that it is easier to replace their production than some other positions.
  4. The nets also gave up 4 1st round picks and 3 pick swaps. If the players had all of the leverage then the team they went to wouldn't have had to give up so much. The players have tremendous leverage, I'm not disputing that, but its not absolute. If Watson truly had the power that some of you think he would go to the exact team he wanted and that team wouldn't have to give up much to get him. When this is all said and done I'm pretty confident the team that gets Watson will pay a hefty price.
  5. Or you draft a "normal" RB later to handle most of the rushing duties and resign Samuel to handle the hybrid stuff if you were to include CMC in a trade for Watson. CMC is a difficult evaluation. Normally I'm not a fan of paying RBs big money, their production is often easily replaced by someone cheaper. The argument for CMC is his production in the passing game, but even that you have to look at closely. Is his production high because of usage or ability. There are a lot of running backs in the league that could have high receiving stats with high usage. Davis has had some games when he had 60-70 yards receiving. Force feeding a RB a lot of screens or check downs doesn't really mean the RB is great in the passing game, It just means they are high usage, most RBs in the league can catch screens or check downs. Where you make the argument for justifying CMCs contract is his ability (if you feel he has the ability) to run more of the route tree, basically the ability to run WR type of routes. Not every RB has that ability. IMO the only way you really justify his contract is to use him as a mismatch in the passing game. The typical rushing and check down type of receiving you could replace pretty cheaply in the draft or free agency.
  6. I know you like to follow all of the coaching and front office side of the league, so question for you. Is it me or does it seem that O-line is one spot where a quality position coach can actually make a huge difference. I'm thinking the guy at the Patriots? Callahan also? Just seems like as hard as it is to find quality O-lineman you would do everything you could to make sure you have top notch coaching there.
  7. I know if a player retires before their contract is over, the team can go after part of the signing bonus. If he flat refuses to play I'm sure they probably could do the same. Also if a player retires early I don't think they get future guaranteed salary. Guaranteed salary is for injury or performance, if a player retires he most likely forfeits that. If he refuses to play that can probably be viewed similar to being retired. Also when a player retires that team still owns that players rights for their duration of the contract they were under when they did retire. His best course of action, from a financial perspective, would probably be to show up to and then fake a injury, but that could also get messy. The fact he is already talked about not playing that would probably not hold as well in a court. Billionaires don't hand out contracts that open themselves up to being screwed over. He can totally refuse to play, but it will cost him considerable money if it happens for an extended time.
  8. People need to get realistic with what its going to take to trade for him. RG3 was three 1st and a 2nd Mack was two 1st, and 3rd, and a 6th Jamal Adams was two 1st, a 3rd, and a player, Jets sent a 4th with Adams A safety got 2 first round picks, think about that. We are talking, by some accounts, a top-3 QB in the league just entering his prime. Some of these suggestions on what we should offer are laughable at best.
  9. Burns and Browns would both probably be a lot more enticing to teams than CMC.
  10. Exactly, he has to show up. Everyone keeps talking like he can just stay home. So he just refuses to enter the game? I’m not sure how that would be viewed in contract law. Sounds like a retirement to me. He could fake an injury, that could get messy for everyone. Don’t get me wrong, he definitely has some leverage and can force their hand but he could also lose out on money and reputation in this.
  11. The $40m isn’t this year. Also that 29m was mostly a signing bonus. I know if a player retires before their contract is over they can go after signing bonus. If he refused to play they might can treat it like retirement and go after that. That future $40m might also be voided if he retires, but I would have to read the actually contract to know for sure.
  12. Because some people consider Watson a top 3 QB in the league, and as of now Tua hasn’t proven a thing, if anything there is some concern he won’t be as good as advertised.
  13. The problem we have is we can’t really offer a QB. At 8 they aren’t guaranteed to be able to draft a QB they might like. To me the Jets and Dolphins can easily offer the best packages.
  14. A lot of that money hasn’t been payed out yet. Also if he refuses to play they might can treat that like a retirement at which point they maybe could go after some of the signing bonus he has already received.
  15. So as the a general rule the teams that seem to value comp pics are some of the better franchises.
  16. but at some point he might decide that getting traded anywhere is better than not getting traded at all. Its really a big game of chicken and who blinks first.
  17. I don't even expect that kind of fortune. There is nothing wrong with a pick like CAP or David Mayo. Decent backups on cheap, cost controlled contracts. Every pick doesn't have to be a star, the draft can be a cheap way to fill out your roster. Speaking of the Pats, they will often use late round pics to secure free agents before they are released by other teams.
  18. He definitely played the comp pic game one year, but some teams such as the Ravens, Pats, and Packers play it almost every year. That is my idea of focusing on it.
  19. People like to devalue comp picks, because for the most part, they are later round picks that do have small chances of working out but if you have neough of them overtime you should hit on some. Alsom some teams like to use them as currency for other things, either trading up in the draft or some teams will them to trade for vet players on cheap contracts.
  20. I still think the Jets could make a major play for Watson. They have 5 first round picks in the next three years. Also their #2 pick this year is probably worth about 3 of our first round picks(think what it would cost for us to move up to 2).
  21. correct me if I'm wrong but: 2014 zero 2015 2 2016 zero 2017 1 2018 zero Not sure if I would consider that valuing them. If I missed one let me know.
  22. That is good news. Thank you for the update. I'll be curious to see how much our new GM values comp picks. Traditionally we haven't much.
  23. I haven't' took time to watch 8 years of tape and figure out the percentages, but 3 articles talking about how we ran a lot of Tampa-2 and cover-2. It amazes me how little people on this forum can entertain the idea that they might possible be wrong. You are right about us running a cover 3 look often, but tampa-2 is a cover 3 look. Its Safety, MLB, Safety instead of CB, FS, CB. Luke was the perfect LB for it because he could diagnose play and then had the athletic ability to get deep. Also if the play is a run or short pass the MLB never gets deep and then it never looks like Tampa 2, it just looks like cover-2 Look at our personnel over the years. We invested heavily into Luke, we didn't' invest in safeties. Look at the type of corners we had. Everything about us screamed cover 2 and Tampa 2.
