Not gonna lie, the Dolphins 7th round rookie QB, Skylar Thompson, might be having the best preseason game out of all the rookies… 19/24 - 214 yards - 1 TD 3 carries - 25 yards
-
Pickett can play a bit, at least against third and fourth stringers. 13/15, 95 yards, 2 TD’s 3 rushes - 16 yards
-
I don’t think he has either but I think this year he’s built to have immediate success as a guard while he learns how to deal with edge rushers who have elite speed. Don’t think it will happen but that’s okay. As long as Elflein and Jordan aren’t trotted out as starters on day one I’ll be happy.

2022 Charlotte FC Game Thread
MillionDollarCam replied to MillionDollarCam's topic in Charlotte Football Club
Charlotte enters tonight’s contest 4 points out of 7th. I personally don’t think we can afford to drop points tonight, and at the very least need to come away with a draw to have any chance at the postseason. Unfortunately, we are matched up against an LAFC team that has only given up points in 7 of 23 contests this year. GK - Kahlina RB - Afful RCB - Walkes LCB - Sobocinski LB - Mora CDM - Bronico RCM - McNeill LCM - Bender RW - Jozwiak ST - Swiderski LW - Reyna Subs - Marks, Lindsey, Fuchs, Jones, Alcivar, Gaines, Vargas, Shinyashiki, Rios Not Included - Sisniega, Romero Not Available - Byrne, Malanda, Santos Injured - Corujo, Armour, Mello Loaned - Zendejas (Independence), Santos (Independence), Hegardt (Independence) No Longer With The Team - Makoun, Franco, Ruiz, Ortiz -
Already got by the Chiefs.

Nice little drive there by Pickett. Nothing spectacular but he made the plays that were in front of him… which you have to do.
-
Definitely feel for Kirkwood, second consecutive offseason where he’s had his bell rung. I’m hopeful that we can store him and Wright on the PS. Moore, Anderson, Higgins, Marshall, Smith, Zylstra, and Saunders make for a really deep group. If we don’t keep those seven then I hope they at least IR Saunders so they can hold on to him.

Why is PJ Walker EVEN on the team?
MillionDollarCam replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Can we not do this poo… while it makes sense to give Walker’s reps to Corral… P.J. was fine for the most part today… that strike to Derek Wright was a really nice play with great execution. Blame the coach sure, but P.J. is just out there trying to continue his football career.- 141 replies

Skylar Thompson, the Dolphins 7th round QB out of K-State, can sling it a little bit. 10/12 - 122 yards - 1 TD
-
Still think our best line for THIS YEAR (had to bold so I don’t get poo’d on) would be: LT - Christensen LG - Ekwonu C - Bozeman RG - Corbett RT - Moton Just imagine CMC running behind a pulling Ickey.

Kyle Trask is an interesting guy, doesn’t do anything impressive but he manages the game quite well.
-
Think he passed the eye test as a capable backup at the very least, regardless of his completion percentage. I’d say that there’s quite a few instances out there where you can’t just look at the stats. Anyone who’s a Panthers fan should be in tune with that as there were quite a few games where Cam led us to victory with a subpar completion percentage.
-
Thought McAdoo was real solid and I’m also really impressed with Joe Dailey’s group… all his guys looked solid… Higgins, Smith, Zylstra, then throw in Kirkwood and Wright.
-
George Pickens must be the second coming cause he’s on my Twitter feed everyday.

To everyone already calling Corral some booty
MillionDollarCam replied to TheoJay10's topic in Carolina Panthers
100 percent, everyone keeps stating that a new coach will bring in his own QB… well Rhule isn’t exactly coaching like it’s a make or break season for him. -
That’s true but I think the concerning thing is that it didn’t look any of our guys can generate pressure on their own (except maybe Barno)… meaning that the only way we’ll generate pressure is with blitzes, stunts, etc.
-
Think that’s spot on. He’ll struggle early with speed rushers but while he’s getting that part of the game down, he will maul any DL that doesn’t possess that quick off the snap speed.

Pie for not having to listen to the Washington announcer nut over a three yard run by Brian Robinson ever again.

Offense Really like Higgins, Smith, Zylstra, and Ricci from the one’s. Thought Brown, Kirkwood, and Wright did some nice things with the two’s and three’s. Mays also had a nice outing besides his false start. Defense Thought Xavier Woods played well in his brief action. Had a nice pass break up and couple of open field tackles. Barno and Brandon Smith looked really good with the two’s, Barno factored in on both turnovers. Myles Hartsfield had a real nice game and he just keeps getting better. Marquan McCall did some good things from the DT spot and he might just earn himself a practice squad position. ST’s Shi Smith will make Roberts expendable, it’s nice to not have to worry about kicker anymore (thanks Zane), Hekker is still one of the best in the business, and J.J. can still do it all, had a nice tackle today. Brandon Smith also made a couple nice plays on special teams.

Okay that makes sense. I don’t necessarily think a guy has to sit to develop. In some cases they might… for instance I don’t think the Jets should have trotted Zach Wilson out there last year… but as others have mentioned, Mahomes could have started and the Chiefs could have ironed everything out as they went along. Corral, I don’t he could start, I think the learning curve is very steep in regards to where he’s coming from. One reason that I think he should be getting a lot of preseason reps because it’ll be his only in game action this year barring some sort of disaster. Howrver, I do like a lot of the intangibles that Corral possesses so I’m personally not writing him off yet and think he could develop into a good stating QB or at worst a very good backup. -

I mean I think that’s where we are. Can our coach develop a third round QB or is our only choice to suck so bad that we get to take a Young or Strong type of player. I’d venture that most probably don’t think Rhule will be able to develop Corral, so from there, I can understand the concern. -

I agree with that, I also don’t think Corral is some mental midget that we just trotted out on the field. I think the speed of the game was too fast for him and he wasn’t used to that type of pressure. I said before that I thought Howell and Willis would preform better than most QB’s out of the gate because they were coming from teams who had ungodly OL’s. Liberty gave up 52 sacks and UNC gave up 49. Most of these preseason games feature turnstiles at the OL position because a lot of the starters don’t play. So when you have guys come in who are already used to that type of pressure they automatically have a leg up. Ole Miss’s line wasn’t great but they were certainly better than the two above. So you add the simplified offense that Corral came from, the increased speed of the NFL, and the fact that he’s not used to running for his life every snap… it’s easy to see why he struggled. The kid is not ready but it doesn’t mean he won’t be. I think his learning curve is steep but the bottom line is that he has tools to work with and at the very worst I think a good coaching staff could turn him into a good backup. -

Allen played out of the gate but he wasn’t ready, it’s obvious that he was developed cause he drastically improved… he wasn’t a finished project when he started. As for Mahomes, jaw dropping plays don’t always correlate to success, we along with no one else were at closed practices, so we have nice idea if he was reading defenses correctly. He came from an air raid offense that is notorious for how simplistic it is. What we can say now is that he sat and learned and when it was his time he had success. Rodgers, age has absolutely nothing to do with being developed. He could have been 40 and it wouldn’t have made a difference. The bottom line is that he had tools and his coaching staff worked him to harness those tools. Those three QB’s all possess great athleticism and great arm talent. Those are two things that Corral also has… if only for those reasons I’d argue that you have to give the kid at least a year before evaluating him because of the deep learning curve he has coming from an RPO offense. Mike Tomlin had some good comments on developing players. It’s not about what they can’t do but it’s about what they can do. If they have elite skills then good coaches can coach the mental side of the game to them. As for Corral, it’s now up to Rhule to do the work to coach him up. -

Is this serious? The best QB’s in the game right now were all developed… Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers… So what.. someone came out with a study about developing QB’s… I’ll tell you right now that the study is inaccurate because that assumes that every QB is on a level playing field and throwing to the same receivers and has the same protection, and the same offensive line. QB’s can certainly be developed… now it’s rare for a player to go from bagging groceries to throwing TD’s in the Super Bowl but this idea that players are what they are when the enter the NFL is foolish. If we were looking at everyone’s in result then we wouldn’t need coaches. -

Not a savior at all, think there’s two sides of the idiocy… the individuals that think he’s our savior and those that think he’s a bust. Realists understand that he’s coming from a very simplified offense where he wasn’t asked to process difficult concepts. We also see that he has tools such as athleticism and arm talent. No matter what, the wise decision is to revisit the convo next year.
