My problem is that when we switched to a back three our most dangerous attacker last night in Vargas was taken out then a bit later Meram was taken out. Lattanzio replaced both with an inexperienced target man in Agyemang. So out of the 11 players on the pitch, only Swiderski, Agyemang, and Westwood possessed any offensive prowess. That just seems like a recipe for conceding a goal.

Marner is more of an assist guy than a scorer anyway, he was fifth in the NHL in assists.

Lattanzio’s in game tactics are horrendous. As soon as he went to a back three with two wingbacks, one of Bronico or Jones needed to come out. Having seven guys that are primarily defensive with only Westwood as the orchestrator in the middle is mind bogglingly stupid. We were inviting consistent pressure and it cost us.

Love watching Derrick Jones battle. Guy just bullies people.

Some random talk coming up about Marner and the Canes, do we even have the pieces to get him? I imagine the offer would start with a first rounder, Necas, and probably Nikishin; and the Leafs still might ask for more.

I’d put money on the Canes not bringing Skjei back after his contract is up. He’ll be looking for a five or six year deal and he’ll be thirty years old.

People need to start getting comfortable with the fact their favorite players may not be here in a couple years. If a player out performs their contract then they get a raise, it’s as simple as that. Most of our guys have out performed their contracts which is why some of them won’t be on the team in a couple years. It’s also important to keep age in mind. Our team doesn’t give out the big 5 and 6 year extensions to 30 year old players that other teams do.

Also, what more can you say about Justin Meram, 2 goals and 4 assists in the 6 games he’s played for Charlotte.

Kochetkov signed a four year extension at $2M a year this past year, that contract can’t be altered to a two-way contract. He is however waivers exempt. The Canes could send him to the AHL but $900K of Kochetkov’s $2M cap hit would be on Carolina’s books.

Right but what I think he means is that we need to be careful with our contracts this year because they could put us in a bind next year when all of our guys are going to get raises.
