  1. Still a chance at the Texans. I think there is a very strong possibility they'll hire Bieniemy to try to keep Watson.
  2. If you guys are talking about a Super Bowl, that's almost certainly going to require a new stadium. The NFL has basically used the Super Bowl as a reward for building new stadiums for several years now. Tampa only got it this year because of construction delays for the LA stadium and it has the benefit of being a warm weather location.
  3. Yep. 2012 season was his rookie year, he was given a pretty big extension prior to the 2015 season, then traded after the 2018 season
  4. I voted for Watson, but my caveat is that it would not be at ANY cost. There would be a point that I'd get uncomfortable and probably back away and probably lean towards drafting. Right now, I think that point would be more than 3 firsts and including Burns.
  5. Thank you! I was just thinking today, after being really involved the past two days after being gone for awhile, how many posters here immediately resort to calling people who disagree with them morons and idiots. It makes it hard to stay engaged.
  6. There is a lot of discussion in the various threads about whether the Panthers should draft a QB at #8, go after a free agent, or trade for a QB (you know who I mean). Threads have popped up about what it would likely cost to trade for a QB and whether any of the upcoming free agents are worth taking a shot on. To help round out the discussion, I made a chart (I love charts) of the QBs who have been drafted in the first round in the past ten years and how long they were with their respective teams. It was interesting to me that the earliest draft in which a QB was still with the team that drafted him was *2016*. Although there are earlier drafted QBs still in the league, and some of them are still starting somewhere, I think you can see there are not a lot of barn burners here. I think drafting a QB is a crap shoot and you don't really know what you're going to end up with. Of this list, I see 4 QBs who made it to the SB (depending on how you count Carson Wentz, I counted him since he was a large reason why they made it) and 1 QB who has won the SB (did not count Wentz here since he did not play). (Josh Allen could be added to this tabulation this year, we'll see). And 2013... woof, man.
  7. Jones actually tweeted polls about this for at least the Dolphins, probably other teams too (I think for the Dolphins, it was Tua plus 2 1st rounders). I think he's gauging fan interest, not using any actual knowledge of what's being discussed between the teams. I think it's going to take more that that. At least another second, and very possibly another 1st, to get it done, unless the Texans management are complete morons.
  8. I really like Marc Sessler of NFL.com. He has not always been a fan of the Panthers, and Cam annoyed him a lot, but he usually has some interesting takes and he is a great writer. He just published an article analyzing which teams are poised for a 2021 turnaround. The Panthers were second on the list:
  9. Not Watson, clearly, but Watt is not in his prime anymore and is injury plagued. You can absolutely call that a football decision. For many die-hard Panthers fans, losing all three in the same off-season was a gut punch, no matter how much time they each have/had left in their career.
  10. Well, we got rid of Cam and Greg in the same off-season, and also lost Luke...
  11. I want Watson. A lot. Most of the trade scenarios mentioned in the various threads here, I'd be happy with, although Burns gives me pause. However, I don't think it happens, mostly because I'm not sure why Watson would waive his no-trade for us. As far as I can see, the best thing we'd have going for us is the Clemson connection. I don't think that's enough. I don't think Watson wants to go to a team that might be able to go to the playoffs next year. I would think Watson wants to go to a team that could go to the Super Bowl, next year with him on it. I don't think we're there yet. Unfortunately. (To play devil's advocate though, I didn't think he were there at the beginning of the 2015 season either). Personally, I think the 49ers make the most sense for him and for the Texans combined. Although the 49ers are in a good division with a lot of competition, so that may give him a little bit of pause. (Actually, that helps us too. If Brees retires and Brady leaves/retires all of the sudden our division is wide open). I don't know (clearly). It'll probably be a team that is being completely overlooked with the way things happen in the NFL. Or the Patriots. Always the Patriots.
  12. For what it's worth (and I have no idea how connected he really is to the situation because I don't normally follow him on Twitter), Lance Zierlein reported that a reconciliation with the Texans is unlikely, even if they hire Eric Bieniemy (this point was more implied than said outright). He also said in the comments that Watson is not going to the Jets.
  13. I had read on Twitter, many times (even before Hurney was fired), that him joining Ron in Washington was a good possibility, but a part of me didn't really believe it. It is mind blowing to me that Ron would look at the past three years and say "yeah, I want to recreate that."
  14. YES, THANK YOU. My eyes are thanking you as I type.
  15. Guys -- we apparently didn't BEAT the vaunted Seattle and Cardinals! They just both magically decided to implode when the Panthers played them! Well, thanks Seattle and Cardinals!
  16. I'm 33 years old and have been connected to the internet since I was 8 years old. I'm pretty sure I've never read a more stupid statement than this from the Orange Mane forum:
  17. I'm really mystified by his whole "I'm not a Broncos fan, I'm an NFL fan." I'm an NFL fan too, but I don't go to a, say, Rams forum to start immediately telling them how they are going to lose their next game. I mean, who has time to troll fans of a team you supposedly have no feelings for? Do you think he thinks that makes him more respectably? Because I actually think less of him if he has no dog in the fight.
  18. Huh. We must have different sources. My research shows that the betting favorite won 11 times in the past 20 years. Which is more than half. Here's the favored teams who have won since 1999 (17 years): Super Bowl Matchup Betting Fav Winner XLV 2011 Green Bay vs. Pittsburgh Green Bay Green Bay XLIII 2009 Pittsburgh vs. Arizona Pittsburgh Pittsburgh XLI 2007 Indianapolis vs. Chicago Indianapolis Indianapolis XL 2006 Pittsburgh vs. Seattle Pittsburgh Pittsburgh XXXIX 2005 New England vs. Philadelphia New England New England XXXVIII 2004 New England vs. Carolina New England New England XXXV 2001 Baltimore vs. N.Y. Giants Baltimore Baltimore XXXIV 2000 St. Louis vs. Tennessee St. Louis St. Louis XXXIII 1999 Denver vs. Atlanta Denver Denver
  19. Also a great state for living the high life.
  20. Wait, was that supposed to be an insult? I love the NFL best, but both NASCAR and college basketball are legitimate, universally popular, multi-million dollar industries -- the same as football. In fact, car racing and basketball are probably more popular worldwide than American football. So, yes, there are probably a lot of people here who know a lot about NASCAR and college football.
  21. How many times does the backup get put into the Championship game due to pure domination??
