Same reason they have workouts. But the most successful coaches and personnel people invariably tell you that game tape is far more valuable. Giving too much credence to The Combine is how you draft guys like Mike Mamula.
-
There's more to that story than just the stats.
-
Turnovers are just one example. There are a million variables in any given football game. That's why I don't like to go by stats. I prefer to judge by what I see. If scouting were as simple as checking a stat sheet, anyone could do it.

I shouldn't take you at your own word? Okay Again, the draft profiles I read on Christensen had him rated as a backup, and not strictly based on measurables. As far as why he "fell" (which I'm not sure is accurate anyway given that he was drafted about where a lot of people projected him) that's something only the teams know. We can make assumptions, but we don't really know. What we do know is that besides Stratton, there are more than a few NFL analysts who think Matt Rhule's comments about Brady Christensen are basically dopey and provide evidence that he doesn't know what he's doing. But defend away if it's what you wish...

How the hell you going to retain Rhule in 2022?
Mr. Scot replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The answer is in the question. -
Outside of watching the Panthers look awful under Matt Rhule's direction (again) I actually am having a pretty good day
-
Why does Rhule think the 2 QB system will work?

Same reason he thinks a lot of things. He's a college coach, not an NFL coach. -

So...two more losing seasons before he gets fired then? -
If an offense turns a ball over at their 10 and the opposing team scores, that defense will be ranked as performing better than a defense that allows a team to drive 30 yards but then stops them. Stats don't tell the true story.
-
Uh huh...sure
-
So I pointed out that the #2 defense ranking was based on yards, but I'm hurting my argument because we're actually 2nd in the league in yards allowed? Okay

By being dumb, prideful and not knowing jack sh-t about football? -
Yeah, I'm sure Rhule is a genius. Guess it's just bad luck we're losing so much, huh?
-
It is. It is not, however, the metric they use to determine top overall defense. That's based on yards. Pretty sure of you check the rankings for points given up, you'll find we're ranked somewhat lower than second.
-
What you actually said... So...yeah.
-
Do the best ranked units always win?
-
Aaaand of course...
-
Barner tackled himself.
-
Don't base your judgment of any NFL unit on a statistical ranking.

Looking for logic from a team playing a two quarterback system is probably a fruitless effort.
-
It tells me that you think you know a lot more than you actually demonstrate you do. But by all means, if you're certain every team that passed on him did so for the same reason, you should have no trouble finding evidence of this, right?
-
Best players... Before he went on IR, Jackson was getting beaten like a drum ever since Rivera dismantled him. Brian Burns has proven to be a huge liability against the run. DJ? He's good, but not "#1 receiver" good. He's also had a very up and down season this year. Like I said, legit criticisms available for every one of them...
-
There are very legitimate criticisms for every one of those guys.
-
Oy...
