That's been the guarding force behind sports talk radio pretty much since Jim Rome hit the scene. It's not about having a thoughtful discussion anymore. It's about having the hottest possible take (and having it first) then demanding everybody react to it. At some point, fandom decided dick measuring contests were more fun than thoughtful discussion.

Tepper being “incredibly accountable” behind the scenes
Mr. Scot replied to Martin's topic in Carolina Panthers
That thought occurred to me too, but I also have to think it would be an easy enough thing to check the report against some of the sources for the previous article to see if it bore up under scrutiny. -
Fitting end to this weekend's football activities...
-
I'm not making any predictions at this point. I just disagree with this being the way to go.
-
It could also be seen as a way of admitting he was wrong without fully admitting it.

Tepper being “incredibly accountable” behind the scenes

Russini is one of the better reporters out there. She doesn't do fluff pieces. Hell, she and Joe Person wrote the "Hunger Games" article ripping Tepper just a short time ago. Why on earth would they turn around and do a puff piece for him? -
Our buddy Casillas had a really interesting notion on that front... Back when Marty was still in charge (and there was no end in sight) many of us had this vain hope that he'd be "kicked upstairs" to a position where he retained administrative duties and general team management stuff but had no personnel authority. Casillas suggested that could happen to Fitterer, and it makes some sense. He's said to be well liked within the organization (not just by Tepper) and reportedly pretty good at the non-personnel related aspects of the GM job. I disagree with going that route because I think with the reports of a toxic atmosphere inside the team's offices - not to mention stories that Fitterer himself might have helped undermine Frank Reich - there's just no way you can keep him around. But looking at it from David Tepper's perspective, the idea might actually make some sense and could even potentially work If the toxic atmosphere stories are satisfactorily addressed.

Oh you can let me know, just not my wife

Hadn't looked at when they were drafted, but I know over the last several years Colbert and Tomlin weren't on the best of terms. The series of one year contracts Colbert took was partially because of a power struggle between them that Colbert ultimately lost. Bottom line for me, though. The Steelers are a mess right now, and the receiver room seems to be a big part of it (not just Pickens). That shocks me because I feel like in the past (hell, even just a couple of years ago) that sort of thing never would have been tolerated.

This year's Steelers...

I'm just disappointed nobody got the "ice is slippery" referenced, but I probably shouldn't be surprised

Also, post mortem...

Don't know if you made me, but I'm not twisting your words. I'm just disagreeing with you.

Why is it still a bad thing to call a QB a “game manager “??
Mr. Scot replied to recceice's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is sometimes on him too, though not in a malicious way. Cam Is that friend you have who you know is a good guy and means well, but sometimes says things in a way that gets him in trouble. We've known that all the way back since the "women asking question about routes" thing. You understand him, but others don't. And occasionally you hear him start to say something that makes you grit your teeth and think "no, stop, don't say that" but out it comes and here we go again. No, they're not bad and yes, they mean well. It just happens. And as a result they wind up having to explain themselves a lot. (or sometimes you have to do it for them) -
McCaffrey going Luke... There have been complaints that the Eagles offense has gotten predictable under Brian Johnson. McCaffrey could certainly add to that narrative here.
-
But the ice...is slippery 🫥
-
Understood, but again "incredibly stupid" doesn't necessarily equal "prevent". Sometimes it's just 'incredibly stupid".
-
Apparently this is getting to be a thing with the Eagles...
-
You gotta have more than one play to prove that argument. It has to be consistent for the entire series.
-
That doesn't require being in prevent. Hell, we used to have two man rushes called back when we had Eric Washington running the defense.

NFL Insider Mike Sando asks what Tepper has learned
Mr. Scot replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brown will likely need to go to Joe Brady route. i.e. drop down to being a position coach again for a year or two, study and learn more about being an effective play designer and caller, etc. Then maybe he can try again later. -
Tomlin is not going to be fired at the end of this season. There's speculation that he could be on the hot seat next season if things continue. And while nobody would argue he's accomplished a lot, if it comes to that point there will be a reason. Make no mistake, the Steelers are a mess right now. You've got players openly dogging it on plays and acting in ways that would have been unthinkable with Steeler teams of the past. That's part of why this is even able to be discussed right now. Also worth noting that a lot of the Steelers success came when the leadership braintrust consisted of Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. The combo of Tomlin and Omar Khan isn't looking nearly as good. Bottom Line: Never assume that someone who's very successful in one situation is automatically going to be successful in another. Just ask George Seifert.

Why is it still a bad thing to call a QB a “game manager “??

Kurt Warner had the best take on this. The average fan is going to say that the difference between "game manager" and "game changer" is athleticism, The ability to make plays with their legs, etc. Those things make for cool highlights and all, but what makes a professional championship winning quarterback is consistency in the passing game. A guy who can consistently make the right decisions and get the ball to the right player / spot will win you way more games than a guy who can make an occasional highlight reel run. If you have somebody who can do both of those things, that's great. If you have to choose between one or the other though, you take the passer. Also worth noting that athleticism fades with time and wear, but a guy who knows what he's doing doesn't lose that knowledge from getting older or taking hits. Bottom Line: Game manager is a style of play and should never be considered an insult or a negative. -
That was an illusion though. We might find out next year that a lot of Young's issues from this season were too.
-
I'd say we need both, but they don't necessarily have to be one guy. As far as patience, when I'm tempted to rush things, I just repeat the phrase "Rob Johnson could start for 20 NFL teams"
