No logistical issues?

Is the actual intention of the Rooney Rule to get more minority coaches hired or is it to provide positive PR / cover for the NFL?

Panthers receive permission to interview Sean Payton
Mr. Scot replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm sure the fanbases of the teams that hired Jon Gruden, Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson and various other Super Bowl winning coaches thought the same thing. Likewise, the Broncos and Browns fans probably thought their quest for a franchise quarterback was over after the massive trades and deals given for and to Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. There's always some unicorn, generally a head coach or quarterback, that fans latch on to thinking "if we just get this guy who was good somewhere else, we're guaranteed to be winners". And they're pretty much always wrong. -
The Panthers had already requested an interview with Kafka prior to this weekend, but I've yet to see any definitive scheduling note. Others are now signing on...

This guy does. I do too. Frankly, probably an awful lot of other people do as well. -

Leaving it...in both cases -
I don't know that it exists. You'd be the one on the side of suggesting it does.

I can't imagine it would be too hard to verify whether or not someone medically advised Jackson not to travel.

Here's the thing about a potential Johnson / Fangio pairing... One of the things that helped Johnson rise to prominence was that he figured out a flaw in some Fangio defensive concepts commonly used around the league. Pairing an older guy whose defensive concepts are copied everywhere with a younger guy who figured out a way to beat those concepts creates an "iron sharpens iron" situation which I would be absolutely all for.

Your exact words... And I repeat, wise decision making most certainly takes what others are doing into account.
-
A wise team absolutely pays attention to what other teams are doing. Also good to know which other teams tend to be smart or stupid so that you can be discerning.
-
Also worth noting that a Cowboys loss potentially creates another opportunity for Sean Payton.
-
The only interview I've actually heard an official schedule date for is Johnson's. Obviously, Evero's schedule should be free.
-
Yes...Yes, I can

What fans think is a nothing story. What teammates think is another matter. If a guy's teammates have trust issues with him, that's something I'd like to know about.

Also...

Still gotta get a second Rooney Rule interview completed before anything official can happen

I'm not a subscriber and I was able to read it.

@ForJimmy quoted this article in another thread. It's a good one.

That's a good article. -
Person added this as well... It still feels like there’s momentum for Johnson, the former North Carolina quarterback who directed a top-five offense in his first season calling plays in the NFL. Johnson is sharp, but green. He could benefit from having a former head coach on his staff.
-
The source for that report was Sean Payton.

From that same article... If Tepper is ready to swing for the fences with Payton, a couple of other members of the search committee probably aren’t too excited about the prospects. Payton almost certainly would want personnel control, which would likely leave general manager Scott Fitterer and assistant GM Dan Morgan looking for work. This idea gets worse every time we hear it. -
Don't know, but there's been an awful lot of people asking that question.
