  1. There are rumors that Irsay might be looking to fire Chris Ballard, maybe even Ed Dodds. I'd take either of them on my team's personnel staff any day of the week.
  2. Sean McVay was hired off of Jay Gruden's Redskins staff.
  3. Uh yeah... Not licking anybody's boots, and definitely not for the privilege of watching the kind of refried monkey sh-t we've been treated to the last few years.
  4. For the interested, here's a list of the various red flags associated with some of the hot names that are out there. Kind of on the young side (under 40) - Kellen Moore (34) - Mike Kafka (35) - Ben Johnson (36) - Shane Steichen (37) - Brian Callahan (38) - Demeco Ryans (38) - Jonathan Gannon (39) Kind of on the old side (at or over 60) - Leslie Frazier (63) - Don Martindale (59) Kind of inexperienced (less than 10 years) - Jerod Mayo (4th season) - Kellen Moore (5th season) - Demeco Ryans (6th season) - Byron Leftwich (7th season) - Mike Kafka (7th season) Is it them or their quarterback? - Byron Leftwich (tom Brady) - Ken Dorsey (Josh Allen) - Brian Callahan (Joe Burrow) - Eric Bieniemy (Patrick Mahones) - Mike Kafka (Patrick Mahomes*) Is it them or their boss? - Byron Leftwich (Bruce Arians*) - Brian Callahan (Zac Taylor) - Eric Bieniemy (Andy Reid) - Mike Kafka (Andy Reid*) - Jerod Mayo (Bill Belichick) - Frank Smith (Mike McDaniel) First year as a coordinator: - Demeco Ryans - Ben Johnson - Frank Smith - Jonathan Gannon Hasn't even been a coordinator yet: - Jerod Mayo Retreads who weren’t very good the first time: - Brian Flores - Dan Quinn - Raheem Morris Belichick Coaching Tree: - Brian Flores - Jerod Mayo Owners seem to be afraid to hire him: - Eric Bieniemy The one name I see on a lot of people's short lists that pretty much none of these questions apply to? Raiders DC Patrick Graham
  5. There's more than just them. Like I said, it's never happened.
  6. Well for at least one of them, it'd be a homecoming.
  7. First off, Tepper has a soccer team here too, Second, relocations require league approval which is highly unlikely in our case. Either way though, blaming dissatisfied fans for a billionaire being a dump prick is stupid.
  8. Someone else has already mentioned it on here, but I really think a lot of people are overrating Flores. It's valid that he didn't deserve to get fired by the Dolphins when he did. It's also valid that he wasn't really all that successful with the Dolphins either. Throw in the talk about toxic environments and the fact that he comes from the Belichick coaching tree, and there are a lot of questions to be asked.
  9. For the record, my top choice is Rich Bisaccia. I'm not a huge fan of chasing the next Sean McVay because as often as not, what you actually wind up with is the next Joe Brady. Now with that said, there's an argument to be made that if you don't keep up with the way league offenses are going right now, your risk being left behind. If you watched the Chiefs-Bills playoff game last season, you'd have to ask yourself whether a defense based team could have withstood that.
  10. I'm not up for settling. After 25+ years as a Panther fan, I've settled enough.
  11. The hard part about selling Panther fans on a defensive coach is that it's all we've ever had. Beyond that though, the league is pushing more and more toward maximizing offense and limiting defense. It's much harder to win big with say, a Ron Rivera type than it used to be.
  12. Johnson's initial success came with a team that could just outspend everybody for the top stars. Once the salary cap was implemented, he came back to earth. No coach who's won a Super Bowl has ever won another with a second team. Yet fans think hiring a guy like Payton is a clear path to a championship. A lot goes into coaching success, with the organization being a big part of it. That's a prime reason why I cringe when people think hiring someone who's one in the past guarantees smooth sailing.
  13. The retread proven winner idea sounds nice... until you look at how many of them fail to reproduce their success. The Dolphins and the Cowboys both hired two time Super Bowl winners in Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. Neither of them sniffed a Super Bowl with their new teams.
  14. We've got our fair share of good defensive personnel...which probably shouldn't surprise anybody given that's where we've concentrated our talent acquisition over the last few years. Coaching and scheme? Eeehhh
  15. To head coach? Kinda doubt it. Johnson is from the Carolinas and may well have grown up as a Panther fan. He'd have been about 17 when the team went to their first Super Bowl.
  16. It ain't gonna be Aaron Glenn Johnson was on staff as a coaching assistant at Boston college when Luke Kuechly was a player there. Don't think he'd ask Luke to be his DC, but linebacker coach or some other staff position might be plausible. Also with regard to Johnson and former Panther players, posted this elsewhere but it works here too... I'm sure everybody knows that first quote, but that second one somehow sounds vaguely... familiar
  17. Adding this... If that second quote sounds familiar to you, it should.
  18. Couple things on that front... Also, can't find the tweet but I saw where Johnson's offense could potentially be on pace to score the most points in NFL history. Don't know if that's going to happen, but if it does it puts them in the company of groups like The Greatest Show on Turf.
  19. Speaking of our old friend Ron... Sound familiar?
  20. So everyone should stop complaining about the terrible football so that we can keep having terrible football... Yeah sure
  21. Rhule is a classic bullsh-t artist. His philosophy is that he doesn't have to actually answer the question. He just has to say something. If you're winning games, you can get away with that. People will laugh it off. If you're losing, then you're basically just a con man.
  22. I actually don't think it can, and the reason has nothing to do with Tepper. Kevin Colbert had for all intents and purposes been King of Steelerland for a long, long time, but over the past few years he effectively lost that position to Mike Tomlin. With all the power and the good will he's built up over the years of never having a losing season, I don't think his first one is going to get him fired.
