  1. Bud Abbott just tweeted from the grave, "Wait, what?!"
  2. Just remember that the process is 1,000% working. You just can't see it.
  3. Yeah I know, only took him overnight to become a seven year sensation...or something
  4. You can get away with saying dumb things if you're a winning coach. Heck, if you're just getting started, you might even get away with losing some games if you actually say the right things. But if you're losing and on top of that you say really stupid things? Oy
  5. And remember, the harder you get coached, the harder we have to then, you know...coach
  6. So even while acknowledging that more reps leads to better play, Rhule still defends not giving Corral enough reps and blames Corral for not looking like a superstar with three to four reps per practice. Yeah, this guy is a clown
  7. Who else do you know that has three guys ahead of their rookie?
  8. They already know that Darnold isn't getting anything in the trade. If they don't, they're not very bright. Likewise, there's enough film on Walker to know that he's not a good enough backup. Well, at least enough for everybody outside of Matt Rhule to know. Don't want to play Matt Corral and the regular season? Fine. But in the name of all that's holy, training camp and preseason are there for the express purpose of helping train him for the future. How the hell do you justify not doing that? And as mentioned, when it comes to Walker, the head coach of the Carolina Panthers has a lot of responsibilities. Getting Matt Corral ready to play in the future is one of them. Helping PJ Walker find a job is not. And shirking a responsibility for Corral while working on a responsibility for Walker that you don't have is just plain coaching malpractice. Dude, I get that you want to be positive about this bunch, and I get why. But from my position, I can be objective. Matt Rhule just isn't an NFL coach.
  9. Apparently I can if I'm a fan of someone other than the Panthers. One thing I do know though, I can't expect it if he doesn't even get the coaching. And seriously, we weren't talking about getting him ready to start Week 1. We were talking about getting him ready to play in the second half of a preseason game. And we couldn't even do that.
  10. He lookef like a third round rookie with insufficient coaching. If they continue not to give him reps, I wouldn't bet on it.
  11. The "earn it" thing is kinda silly at the pro level, especially for quality free agents and highly drafted rookies. He still thinks like a college coach. I seriously doubt he's ever going to be a successful pro coach.
  12. Said it elsewhere a couple of times, but it applies here too... In the case of Matt Corral, and to some degree in the case of Ikem Ekwonu, Rhule is treating them more like college freshman than NFL rookies. In most cases, you're not looking to get a freshman ready for this season, or often even next season. You're going to spend the bulk of this year's practice time getting the seniors and juniors ready while the younger players wait their turn. And for college football, that's a fine approach. ... This isn't college football.
  13. Had the third round rookie been handled properly and still not turned out, I could have lived with that. He's not been handled properly. And as far as blaming the coaching staff, there's actually very good reason to do so. It's not just some knee-jerk reaction. Matt Rhule has made it quite clear that he's not qualified to run an NFL team. Now you can say otherwise if you want, but in that case I'd ask you to present some kind of evidence to support the idea. What actual positive things have you seen that can be attributed directly to wise courses of action taken by Matt Rhule? And do me a favor: please don't start with the whole "#2 defense" thing because the reality is that our defense last year wasn't that good and the ranking garbage is a complete fallacy. I genuinely don't feel like having that discussion yet again.
  14. It's not about the methodology... Over the years, I've seen guys who were told to sit and develop blossom into superstars. I've also seen guys who were thrown into the pressure immediately respond by becoming diamonds. Likewise I've seen guys whose coaches brought them along slowly ultimately never measure up. And I've seen guys who were asked to start from the get go wilt and be destroyed by the beatings they took. The only consistently common thread I could name is this... The guys who succeeded were led by men who knew what they were doing. It's not the approach. It's the coach. And regardless of what our plans are for Matt Corral, if somebody smarter than Matt Rhule isn't in charge of them, I don't see a whole lot of chance of them working out.
  15. I think at this point, even "Cliff" knows that. Sadly, "Dave" doesn't. Perhaps Dave might have seen that sooner had he actually looked at the Cliff Notes. Unfortunately for us, he instead chose to consult the Marty Notes
  16. Having "a vet" on the roster would be fine. Having both Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold on the roster...is stupid. Having both Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold on the roster plus thinking you you need to have them in some goofball competition for the starting job...is insanely stupid. Having both Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold on the roster ridiculously competing for the starting job while also having PJ Walker and using valuable training camp and practice reps to try and help him find his next NFL job...is beyond stupid... It's Matt Rhule.
  17. Lady Cowboy Fan got a good laugh out of my reaction to that play. And I'll grant that if you weren't a Panther fan, you'd probably have found it funny.
  18. I've spent a little time following football, and I can tell you that in that time, I've yet to see a third round rookie who only got a minimum number of practice snaps come in and look like an All Pro. I don't know what Corral is yet, but I do know that judging him off of today, especially given the way that Matt Rhule has handled his development to date, is extremely premature.
  19. Mentioned elsewhere, but if you read every post of his as saying "This is me trying to convince people that I'm really smart by claiming everyone else is dumb", it makes way more sense.
  20. If he'd gotten practice and looked bad, then we could talk. But as has been mentioned, several NFL staffs have done a decent job prepping rookie quarterbacks this season. Ours? Not so much. And unless you can cite examples where other third round rookies have come into the league and looked like world beaters after barely practicing at all, interpreting this as "well, I guess Corral must just be bad" is lazy. Bottom Line? Corral is Matt Rhule's first experience / attempt at coaching a highly drafted NFL rookie quarterback. And for the sake of the Panthers future, hopefully also his last.
  21. Bush league is probably a compliment. I don't put it on "the staff" though as much as I do Rhule. These are his decisions.
  22. Hate to tell ya, but it's actually not the Carolina Panthers responsibility to make sure PJ Walker has a job. It is however kind of important that they develop that guy they spent a draft pick on and talked up as a quarterback of the future. Yet with those two things in mind, guess which task Matt Rhule is putting a higher priority on?
  23. Would probably help at least a little bit if the coach would have him...you know practice Said it a couple times already but it bears repeating: Rhule is handling Corral as if he were a college freshman rather than an NFL rookie. Again, he's proving rather conclusively that he's not an NFL coach.
  24. Or that play where he had a wide open field to run two yards for a first down but chose to chuck a poor pass instead?
  25. Kinda hard to get better as an NFL rookie when your dumbsh-t coach doesn't give you any practice time. And if you wanna talk "real", PJ isn't gonna be on the regular season roster. Corral is.
