  1. Well whatever they did, it sounds like their "sales pitch" meeting went something like WKRP's pitch to Vicky Von Vicky jeans.
  2. I like him as a player if he's healthy. maybe not for that big a contract though...
  3. I'd wanna know about that failed physical first...
  4. 49ers also wanted him. Guy we let go last year isn't doing too bad for himself.
  5. Person has a similar conclusion regarding the contract question and David Tepper.
  6. Chemistry with the new guys on his coaching staff is gonna be a question too. Rhule isn't used to not having "his guys". How's he going to react if someone tells him he's straight up wrong?
  7. Which is an incredibly stupid reason to draft any player. But yeah, it won't surprise me
  8. There's a big difference in knowing what needs to be done and knowing how to do it. Saying "we need a great quarterback" makes sense. Moving from that to saying "let's trade for Jimmy Garoppolo" for example, not so much. And the Watson trade was always a "Gift of the Magi" type proposition. That's just not the smart way to go if you really want to build a complete team.
  9. I've never bought into the idea that he was, He doesn't sit at the top of the food chain, but that doesn't make him a "yes man" anymore than it makes John Schneider one.
  10. Taylor didn't have full control like Rhule does. Carroll did, but he also had extensive NFL experience, an infinitely superior college record and better results in his first two seasons. You have to earn the benefit of a doubt. Rhule hasn't done that.
  11. On the need? No. On the ability to offer a contract and how much money? Definitely.
  12. The contract thing doesn't sound like a decision Tepper would have made. He'd have given Watson his firstborn if he asked. Rhule's wheelhouse is to say what players he wants to keep, cut, extend, etc. but he doesn't necessarily deal in specific contract terms. That decision would have been made by Fitterer, possibly also Suleiman.
  13. So did everybody else. Our late season defense was mostly a speed bump.
  14. Oh, I remember more than that. Fox was a good second DE on a nice cheap deal.
  15. Can't help feeling if they stick with Christensen at left tackle, #6 is Kenny Pickett.
  16. How bout this? I liked Fox. Wish we would have kept him.
  17. Holder is a Colts beat writer. Also from John McClain...
  18. To be fair, that was David Tepper's decision. It really only reflects Tepper's perception of him, not necessarily anyone else's. I wrote my thoughts previously though...
  19. Rhule may not the entirely to blame... ...but he can't be considered blameless either. In the case of stafford, Rhule was still largely new and somewhat unknown though seemingly trending upward. Still, the Rams were better and there were said to be some outside considerations too, including some reportedly from his wife. Wilson? Even with the connections to Scott Fitterer, Wilson (and his wife) weren't interested. They wanted something better than the Panthers. And in Wilson's situation, that's kind of understandable. That brings us to Watson. And two things here: Watson's perception of the Panthers as a team likely isn't good (heaven knows nobody else's is). Now that may not be a direct rebuttal of Matt Rhule but it is a rebuttal of the team that he's primarily responsible for building. The other thing you have to consider though is that Watson, as far as I know, is the first of the three to have in-person contact with Matt Rhule. We've talked previously about Rhule as a salesman and how he smooth talked the Panthers. Well, he had the chance to do that with Watson as well. Didn't work. So what you can ultimately say is that whether it's Rhule himself or the team that he put together, franchise quarterbacks seem to have a negative opinion of it. Also, apparently their wives hate us
  20. Thanks everyone. Me and the Lady appreciate the thoughts. As to the team, lots to digest right now but here's hoping this little event ultimately turns into a positive.
