Tepper hired a private investigator to look into Deshaun Watson
Mr. Scot replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Actually I'd say the worst thing you can be is a team that just gave up a ridiculous haul of draft picks and players for a quarterback who's then found guilty of a crime or suspended or some such. Then not only do you still not have a high quality quarterback, but you're also out what you traded for him. (and no, the Texans will not accept conditional picks; even if they did, what if something happens after the picks you traded have already been used?) -
For a 2022 2nd and a 2023 6th... That's a lot less than the Bears traded to get him.
-
Some people think they're not really sold on him. I think they are, but that's just me.

This has been covered before. More specifically, the Texans are said to want a total of five to seven assets, including three first rounders, plus two second rounders or high level players. These are not rumors. This is what the Texans have been telling teams that asked about him. -
Former NFL GM Mike tanenbaum of The 33rd Team says there aren't enough good quarterbacks to go around. For added reference... Bucs, Saints and 49ers would need to make some room.
-
Kelly started going downhill when he got roster control. Rhule had that from day one. Maybe that makes us ahead of the curve

You could call Rivera a decent NFL coach. You could even call him a bad NFL coach. Either way he's still an NFL coach. Matt Rhule is a college coach who's employed in the NFL...temporarily. If he doesn't get to that point, then your argument is lost.
-
Check the math again and you'll find that three successful years are more than zero. Rivera earned his additional years by improving. Rhule hasn't done that yet. Heck, there's an argument to be made that he got worse. Rhule has basically one more year to try and show that he can do something in the NFL. I wouldn't bet on him getting there
-
I hate to go back to 5th grade math here, but 100% "sucking ass" is worse than 70%.
-
Matt Rhule went 5-11, then 5-12. You're not really helping your argument here.
-
You're actually helping make my argument for me.

There are only two other NFL teams looking to sign offensive linemen? Well then, that changes everything
-
That's also because the "bulk" of NFL free agents aren't really that good. You've got a few top guys who make a lot of money and can afford to be picky. The rest are second tier or role players at best, camp fodder at worst. That second group is who will be picking from. But again we'll probably have to pay more for them than other teams right.
-
Coach being a lame duck can be a risk because the next coach might not want you like this one did. Will we be able to sign free agents? Sure. We might have to overpay for them though. Will we be able to sign really good free agents? Eeehhh, maybe. You'd have to overpay even more for that though. Attractive destinations often get players for less. Unattractive ones have to pay more, and as a consequence use up more of their salary cap. Bottom line: While there are certainly players who will come here for one reason or another, we are not an attractive destination. And that makes the process of ruster building harder.

The "NFLrums" Twitter is not a reliable source. About the only reliable thing posted on that Twitter is stuff that they plagiarized from someone else. If you can find it from another source, it might be valid. If they're the only place it's listed though, pretty solid chance it's bullsh-t.
-
There are some players who won't, but believe it or not every NFL player is not necessarily Rod Tidwell.
-
Funny that the coaches, who should technically be older and wiser, didn't see it your way. Your argument really only works for players that don't have better opportunities somewhere else. And if they're at least half decent, chances are they will. Will there be players that will sign here just for the money? Probably. Will they be all that good? Maybe, maybe not. If they're at least decent, we might have to overpay and use up more cap room to keep them from going somewhere else. That's not good team building.

Whole lot of Deshaun Watson chatter happening out there
Mr. Scot replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well that's an option, I've got a lot of ideas
