Dane Brugler Mock Draft 1.0 (from The Athletic)

Thinking he may have just vaulted up a few draft boards. If that wasn't enough... -
Not quite accurate because you're mostly looking just at the guys who followed him directly from Baylor. Sean Ryan was on staff alongside Rhule when he was with the Giants. So was Al Holcomb, and he was already here so it was an easy hire. Kevin Gilbride was on staff with Rhule at Temple rather than Baylor. His dad also coached with Rhule on the Giants staff. Terrance Knighton didn't coach with Rhule, but he played for him at Temple. Rhule was actually his position coach for a season. Jason Simmons doesn't have a direct connection with Rhule but he does with Phil Snow. Simmons played for Snow at Arizona State. Mind you, there actually could have been more but some of his guys chose not to follow him. A few others weren't with him long enough or didn't have enough experience to be qualified. Those were the positions that ended up with other people. But even one of those, DL Coach Mike Phair, ended up gone a year later in favor of Rhule's Baylor DL Coach Frank Okam. As to NFL experience, the guys who do have it haven't risen above the level of position coaches. None of them has been a pro level coordinator that I know of, and definitely no head coaches. Add to this that Rhule had been able to get a couple of guys added in front office and administrative roles. Pat Stewart is the highest. Evan Cooper, Sean Padden and EJ Barthel were the others but Padden and Barthel have departed since (Padden under some questionable circumstances). All in all, there are only about five or six guys on the entire staff that aren't connected to Rhule in some way, most of them on offense. And those are the guys I won't be surprised to become scapegoats for our offensive struggles.

Looked at some of the options recently and there genuinely should be guys like that available. Unless someone dictates who he hires though, I expect anyone he appoints to be one of his guys.

Regarding Hill... Sounds like we might be facing Siemian.
-
You might be thinking of Wahle and Hartwig. If I recall correctly, Wahle wasn't terrible, he just wasn't all that great either. Captain Mohawk on the other hand was bad enough that they went for a rookie Ryan Kalil over him even though Kalil admits that he was hopelessly lost at the time.

Because recruiting is a huge pain in the ass...

The Seahawks best drafts happened when Scot McCloughan was part of their front office. Unfortunately, after moving on to become the GM in DC, McCloughan basically drank himself out of a job. Right now he's working as an occasional draft consultant. I would favor making McCloughan part of our front office, but you'd have to have some pretty strong assurances that he wouldn't fall off the wagon again.

The one sliver of hope I have right now is that Oklahoma hasn't made anything official. That said, all indications are that Rhule to Oklahoma isn't happening.

Projected by the mocks I've seen to go higher than where we pick...
-
Tepper needs to either put a coaching search in the hands of a consultant (someone like Kevin Colbert if he were to come available) or just trust Fitterer and Morgan to hire who they want (which is be fine with). Unfortunately, while he's proven time and again that he doesn't know what he's doing, he still seems to think he does. That's a really bad situation.
-
I don't think that's happening this year. Only hope we probably half of getting out from under his thumb this year is if Tepper fires him, and nobody seems to think the odds on that are very good.
-
Daley... Honestly looks more like he's doing a dance move than a kick slide...
-
I feel like Rhule is gonna stick around just long enough to keep us from having a shot at a really good replacement, then take off
-
Notre Dame is officially off the table. (not sure they were ever really on, but hey...)
-
Some of Belichick's drafts stink almost as bad as Marty's.
-
That description probably applies just as much to David Tepper as it does to Matt Rhule. A lot of those have Matt Rhule's fingerprints on them. Arguably, most of them in one form or another... The most obvious ones? Anderson getting extended before Moore screams Rhule. Likewise, we signed the OL guys we did because they were the kind of blocker Rhule wanted (versatility over ability). It's really difficult to place major blame on a GM who's not actually in charge (something which again is the owner's fault).

You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone
Mr. Scot replied to Catsfan69's topic in Carolina Panthers
If they follow Rivera's previous pattern, they'll rise for a few years, get figured out, plateau and eventually slide back to mediocre. -
I can't really disagree with most of that. I would say that while their quarterback situation might be better than ours, it's really not so great either.
-
I feel like part of the problem is a lot of us had the impression that Rhule was an offensive minded coach. That hasn't really panned out. He's proven to essentially be the third part of a trilogy where parts one and two were Fox and Rivera.
-
If you're old enough to remember Dan Reeves and Tommy Maddox, Payton seems to have pretty much the same thing going with Taysom Hill.
-
Translation: Guys who are mediocre at everything but great at nothing. Gimme five guys who can each play one position well and I won't give a sh-t whether they can play somewhere else.

Coaching is a huge advantage for the Saints.
