Smart teams probably don't. It's been said that the Jets brass don't necessarily want that either, but team owner Woody Johnson does. Johnson is the same guy who kept Rex Ryan around as head coach because he liked his big talking personality.

New Cards head coach Jonathan Gannon was on the Vikings coaching staff some years back when Theilen was just starting out. He's got some connections to people that used to be part of the Panthers organization (Jared Allen and Norv Turner among others) but a cursory look at his career doesn't turn up any current links.
