Thanks. I know that's where he's from and that's where he got all his experience. Haven't looked that closely into the circumstances around this move (one of those "down the road" things). I also know the Spanos family is...unpredictable. (among other things)

How could we not give Fitt another chance?!?
Mr. Scot replied to DMathematics's topic in Carolina Panthers
Most of the guys that are associated with Quinn fall in the category of good, not great. They can run a decent offense but not so good that anybody's looking at them for a head coaching job. That's...okay -
If the Chargers wind up having an opening, I could see Steichen being the guy to fill it. But yeah, the focus right now seems to be on Wilks. That's one reason why I'm not putting too much effort into coaching profiles just yet because there's way too many potential candidates. Well that, plus Lady Cowboy Fan just had her third surgery and recovery is going kinda rough

Matt Rhule interview, discusses his firing (funny stuff??)

I was gonna say... Mind you, I do wonder what will happen if Rhule actually does try to offer "his side of the story" at some point. -

Because I have the ability to separate coaching from personnel. If you can't, well... -

Yeah. And hell, it's not even something you're going to see any progress on for some time to come since GMs don't really do a whole lot midseason. -
And the contract structure, and the full power...

Said in the other thread that I think the best hope for Quinn to get a great OC might be if he reaches for someone to whom he doesn't have a prior connection. The question is how likely that would be to happen. -

Rhule and Tepper's GM hire process had a very "thesis - antithesis - synthesis" feeling to it. They each suggested their own candidates than debated between them, in the process knocking out guys who had connections to Rhule (Ireland, Peters, Stewart) and pretty much throwing everybody that Tepper suggested out the window. Fitterer didn't actually enter the process until later at a time when Rhule and Tepper were looking to expand the list of candidates. He was certainly qualified (he'd had three or four GM interviews prior to that and was well respected around the league) and finally became someone they could agree on. Not really a fan of either at the guys who picked him but I think this is one of those cases where they might have stumbled on the right answer. -
Early on, Tepper seemed to think that people who were good at one thing (soccer, for example) would automatically also be good at something else (like football). Jerry Richardson had that same notion, and it worked out equally as well (i.e. not at all). Likewise, Tepper repeated another Richardson mistake, that being trusting the wrong people. In one case, the exact same person (Marty Hurney).

Yeah, he does. And he's made it clear numerous times that he's aware of how fans perceive him. I don't necessarily think that's a good thing.

We probably can't. What I'm looking at right now are connections, and the biggest one that I know of with Steichen is to Steve Wilks. Mind you, connections aren't everything, but we don't have a whole lot else to go on right now.

I like Steichen. I'm just not sure he's likely to get the Panthers job.

I don't really want Quinn either, or any other retread for that matter. With that said, there are definitely examples of guys who did way better on their second coaching job than their first. Bill Belichick is the most obvious example, but there are other guys like Marv Levy and Dick Vermeil on the list too. -

A team coached by a bad coach gets worse the longer he's here, but that's the GM's fault? -

Rhule also drafted some players I like too. I'm not of the mind we have to throw out every piece of furniture that Matt Rhule ever touched. -

I don't know that it will, but it's definitely possible given Quinn has ties to both of our top two decision makers and fits the profile of what people believe Tepper wants (though that's speculation too). -

You're really going off the rails here. No idea why this is making you so angry. -

I think we have areas of it that are good while others need improvement, which is actually pretty standard across the league. Free agency improved from last year to this year in part because of the addition of Dan Morgan. Fitterer is a draft guy, Morgan a pro personnel guy. I do feel like the drafts have been decent at the very least, though given we're only two years in it's kind of premature to judge. But as with other things, I'd like to see how the roster performs when Matt Rhule and his people aren't coaching it. Or are you going to tell me that who's doing the coaching also makes no difference?
