Preseason Panthers v Texans official game day thread
kungfoodude replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Mannings have historically been pretty selective about where they want to end up. so I think it is not only about how Arch does at Texass but who is drafting in the first couple of spots in the draft. He should be helped a lot by a class that seems loaded(pre-season, which means little) with guys that wouldn't have been first round picks in 2025. -
It's wild to see people look at this roster and talk playoffs. It was hard to not just audibly laugh every time I read it.
-
It isn't relevant if it does or doesn't have importance(don't really believe it has a major significance personally). The offseason is basically over. This team just is what it is. Look, if it is a disaster, we have weeks to wail and gnash our teeth. It's fine. Just another day as a Tepper Panthers fan.

Well, we could have said that last season too but Bryce came back from the dead. But, if he has to do so again, it will be a pretty big red flag. Even if he bombs, putting Dalton(or any off the street FA JAG) in has a limited spark potential. We likely live and die on that side of the ball by what Bryce does. I am not gonna get too high nor too low about it. It just is what it is at this point.
-
I wouldn't overly worry about it, TBH. We will likely know what we have by about halfway through the season if not earlier. Even had Bryce been tearing it up, I would be preaching the same thing. It's preseason so the takeaways are lesser than normal. Just let it play out.
-
Well, we knew depth was going to be bad. That was inevitable. Yes Dan was a part of the problem but on the surface he seems to have improved the roster overall. Not sure it will really be enough to matter but I suppose we will find out. Also not sure even if he starts to have success that he will be around to see it through.

I wouldn't say there isn't much to churn rather that there isn't a real reason to do so outside maybe some special teams guys or priorty waivers that could make an impact. Aside from that, it's juat business as usual. See what we have and see what we can develop.
-
Agreed. It is ao insane to be panicking about the fuging backup QB at this point. When that becomes necessary, we are already fuged.
-
It's insane to be trading for a #3 QB. Ride this out, move on to 2026.
-
Well, in fairness, that was always going to be the case. We are at least a couple of successful offseasons away from having any real depth.
-
Eh....if it happens when it matters, at least we have the answer. At this point, him stinking is better than being above average. At least we can pivot to the next attempt rather than end up with a Goff/Dak/Lawrence contract.
-
IDK why people consistently fight against the idea that this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history. It just is what it is. No reason to freak out. Evaluate the players in 2025, move on.

6.5 is a solid line. 6-7 wins is reasonable. I would bet that under too. I would have said that 2 months ago, though. -

All you have to do is look at rosters and this becomes abundantly clear. It's easy to live in a Panthers bubble but the state of #2 and #3 QB's in the league at the moment is quite bad. People just chimp out because Dalton isn't the prime version of himself. Well no poo. He is literally statistically the best backup QB we have had that has started 1+ games per year since Anderson. If Dalton is what people are worried about, this season is so far gone that you may as well tune out until 2026. -
Eh, we look mildly worse than I expected. Technically this doesn't matter so I sm not stressing it. But, people need to understand that the bar is still quite low for us. Watch the players, see if the core expanded/improved. If so, that's enough.

I would disagree. He is likely one of the better backup QB's in the NFL. NFL fans have a misconception of NFL backup QB's that they will all be the Jake Delhomme, Kurt Warner or Nick Foles. That just isn't reality. Winston is a guy that is fun to watch for a few drives per game while being largely responsible for the crippling loss you are about to have. It's fun but the results are the same or worse than Dalton. Dalton had a ton of VALUABLE experience, he is essentially a mentor for Bryce and an option to moderately competently run a subpar offense if/when he falters. That is it. There is no savior. There is no silver bullet. This is what we are for 2025. The sooner we accept this, the better. -

He isn't. He is a 40 year old guy that can on occasion catch a glimpse of past glory, literally a 3 year older version of Andy Dalton. The die is set. People need to quit pretending like this is salvageable if Bryce doesn't pan out. It's absolutely lightspeed delusional to even look past Bryce in 2025. If he doesn't pan out, it's 2026 that is the next step. I have zero idea why people haven't accepted this for months now. -

No, they really aren't. Gabriel and Pickett are PS players at their extreme ceiling. Sanders could be a #3 and Flacco is a poor man's Dalton. None of their QB's are worth even a casual look. -

Also, to be abundantly clear, Jack Plummer has NEVER been a rosterable NFL QB. That was Huddle/Kyle Allen BS to the nth degree. It says a lot about our QB situation that people pine for guys like Allen, Walker, etc. Much less proven bums like Darnold. Poverty franchise thought. -

I generally don't think so. The Browns roster is basically multiple #3 QB's. -

Dalton can actually be moderately competent enough to evaluate the players on the roster. Plummer cannot. At the point where we are going Dalton, the entire season is on evaluating the remaining roster. -

No reason to cut Dalton, TBH. There are no better options. #3.....I don't think we should even have a #3 QB. It's not a position important enough(hold on, I will explain). At the point we are past Dalton, it's all gone to poo anyway so just deal with whatever is available. -

So, just to be clear....we actually had MFers that were talking about replacing Dalton with Plummer. El Oh El -

4-7 wins was my projection anyway. It's really about how the players look. This was destined to be a lost season.
