It technically takes years to deteremine how good a player typically is. Not asking that question. Asking what people thought of the draft.
-
Simmer down.
-
What is your personal grade of this draft?
-
Well, I guess that is about that.
-
We will see. This draft has been almost entirely 2018-2023 Edition to a tee. It would be better for you to be right but I am just not seeing it. Seems all so familiar.
-
I can appreciate that. I'm not convinced that is what we are seeing, however.

panthers draft summed up in one picture
kungfoodude replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
The lady is the Panthers fans, the dog is David Tepper. -
Well, we all need to keep in mind that Morgan was part of the same FO that made all the blunders that have been discussed ad nauseam in this forum for months. It was a convenient and understandable thought process to think, "Oh it was all Fitterer! It was him that is at fault!" But this was the same thought process most of us had for Fitterer when Matt Rhule was here. The truth is, anyone who had a hand in decisions during the absolute shitshow of the past few seasons shouldn't be making decisioms for us now. But we know Morgan(who we all love as a player and that will never change) was involved. How much is a mystery but boy all this seems to depressingly familiar. And we all also know David Tepper still has his hands in this at some level. So right out of the gate, you have good evidence of why this might be looking as familiar as it does.

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2
kungfoodude replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Risks are fine but taking risks all the time will bite you. I think this all suits the Tepper mentality though. It's how he built his fortune. So when these guys act like they are smarter than the rest of the league, he gravitates towards that thinking. -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

Show me recent situations where we thought we were smarter than the rest of the league and it worked out. I can show you dozens of examples of that not being the case. I am not going to applaud hubris. Especially when it has nothing to back it up. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

The issue is we aren't Seattle, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, etc. We don't have a track record of development and we don't really have the luxury of developing players. We need guys to play and contribute. But we aren't taking guys that can play and contribute. We are taking more TMJ's and DJ Johnson's. Players that need a ton of work. Or just reaching on lower value positions like RB. New day, same Panthers. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. -

I mean, if you put all these moves side by side, included the trade info, the RAS scores and the positions, I couldn't tell you which moves are his and which aren't. I hope I am wrong but this feels like another case of, "Boy none of these guys are still on the team from that 2024 draft" in about 3 seasons. I am just starting to accept that this is what happens when the franchise is so dysfunctional. That's why all those Bengals, Lions and Browns drafts all got panned at the time and even more so afterwards. It's just endemic to the situation. Bad franchises do this to themselves. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

It's basically proven to be a very bad strategy in the modern NFL. Productive guys can be had in rounds 3-5. I just have no idea what the fug we are doing. I really don't. -
Does Bryce have any further excuses for this upcoming year?
kungfoodude replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given that we are likely to be only in a marginally better spot than last year, yes. There excuses will be there. Regardless, if he struggles again then the league is going to start looking at him like previous bust QB's. He will get a shot as a backup and journeyman elsewhere and if that doesn't pan out, the options will get far shorter(pun not intended). Although he is likely in a bad spot in 2024, he has to show something or the pool of "It's the Panthers that are dragging him down" folks will start saying, "Why hasn't he improved? Is he fixable?" -

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

Yep. We apparently are anti-BPA. Plus all the trading up and down to get guys that seem like reaches.......boy that all seems really familiar..... -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

That's the same argument I heard for the last two staffs and the guys we drafted back then. Unfortunately, until that actually happens, I am going to be very skeptical. -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

This draft feels like the RAS addiction is still lurking in the FO. Just a lot of head scratching moves with better options available. Oh well, such is the way of the Tepper Panthers. It is what it is. -
Good Christ that would be a HR. That is at least 3 potential starters.
-
Absolutely not. 39 is too high for Wilson and I have no desire fo draft Shipley above the 4th.
-
Drastically? Absolutely not. Still a C tier or lower overall squad, IMO. Improved? Definitely. Adding Johnson gives us another actual NFL WR.

Panthers all-time second-round picks
kungfoodude replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Speaking of boom or bust.....Jesus. -
He has the highest ceiling but probably also the lowest floor of the top three guys. True boom or bust guy. But it's better than the low ceiling and even lower floor guy they previously drafted. I kind of think McCarthy ends up a little that way. Great measurables but just never really produced the way he should have, IMO.
-
I would say that Johnson and Theilen are the only non-replacement level players in our WR corps. So we at least have two guys that have a prayer of getting open in a given game. The rest of that group?? Woof.

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
kungfoodude replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I sort of disagree because had he gone to KC or Seattle he would have been surrounded by organizations that are very good at developing players. Here, that is definitely not the case.
