Too many unknown variables in your equation there homie. What is a "blockbuster trade?" - An established All-Pro player - A Pro Bowler in their prime - Anyone who nets multiple picks - Multiple 1st round picks - Perceived overpayment What is considered working out? - Tangible improvement in a specific personnel grouping - Improved W/L record - Future All-Pro/Pro Bowl noms - Playoff performance - Super Bowl What position are the Panthers in for your scenario? - If we trade Teddy to Chicago for a 1st and 3rd, and they win a ring dinking and dunking for 3 yards here and 4 yards there and say 15 passing TDs, who won the trade? Was it a blockbuster? - If we trade 3 1sts for Watson and are perennial contenders for the next 10 years but, never hoist the Lombardi, did the trade "work out" in our favor?

Could be. Also could be Rod doing more taxi squad churning to keep everybody in rink shape. -
i.e. if the upcoming draft is a bad year for positions you need, then those picks would be less valuable to you, no?
-
You are probably right. I doubt he was the one who made that call. I would imagine he had had some level of input, though. Serious question... (Since you are typically the most well read when it comes to FO type stuff.) Do the pro guys typically consult with the college guys when it comes to draft pick compensation for player trades?
-
Kyle Shannahan has already drug two different teams with mediocre QBs to the Super Bowl with an offense designed around the RB. And he's never had one of CMCs caliber. I don't think they are a RB away. But, given his history and the fact that he just signed a 6 year extension, I wouldn't be surprised if he thought so.
-
Don't know whose call it ultimately was. Fitts background is college scouting. But, he was either co-director of player personnel or VP of football operations when the trade happened. I'm sure he had some say in the deal.
-
I wouldn't have either. Not sure or our new buddy Fitts made the wisest choice there. Both are unique players who can be used almost anywhere on the field and are clearly the best players at their position. But neither play premium high $ positions. Would I give up 2 1sts for Teddy & CMC? No. But that doesn't mean nobody else will. Or that they would be insane if they did.
-
And before you but but but he's a running back... RB: 2nd lowest paid offensive position ($1.9 mil) S: Lowest paid defensive position ($2.7 mil)
-
Dude, Seattle just traded 2 1sts, a 3rd and a borderline starter for Jamal Adams less than a year ago. And they had to give him a new contract. CMC's bonus has already been paid. McCaffery, a 3rd and $20 million > Adams?
-
I doubt they would either. It's just the only way I can see HOU getting what they want for Watson without us completely gutting the team. And to be fair, for a team that's only one or two players away from a championship caliber team, (if that's still how they see themselves) 2 1sts for McCaffery is not ridiculous.
-
This is the only scenario I see that could make sense... CAR gives up: Teddy, Shaq, CMC and 2021 1st SF gives up: Jimmy G, 2021 1st and 2022 1st HOU gives up: Watson CAR recieves: Watson SF recieves: Teddy and CMC HOU recieves: Jimmy, Shaq and 3 1sts We get Watson without mortgaging the future and clear enough cap to resign Samuel & Moton. Houston gets their 3 1sts, a defensive player and a QB to groom their new rookie. And SF gets to prove once and for all whether a stacked team with a mediocre QB can still win it all in the NFL.
