  1. it's probably a compromise between the best player on his board and team needs. like if marcus mariota were to be available when we pick somehow i doubt gettleman would select him. it's more apparent in the later rounds though. drafting ealy instead of going morgan moses or another tackle, double dipping at defensive back and actually trading up to get bene, drafting a guard in the third instead of reaching for a tackle prospect, and so on.
  2. i'm not convinced that michael oher sucks yet if somebody could perhaps post one more article from a media outlet discussing the topic i may finally be swayed
  3. this is like the tackle version of the ted ginn signing last year in 2013. let's hope for similar results.
  4. just like some guy named john or jerry said would happen in all pro
  5. yeah i can imagine what that would sound like very easily "man i tell ya this banana (brief pause for emphasis) can play the left tackle position better than byron bell"
  6. oh i get it it's because hawk is canadian
  7. nothing is wrong how do i use this thing to buy cable knit sweaters
  8. my wife had a friend a few years ago who was jerking her around like that-making plans and not following through, standing her up, being awkward, etc. her behavior just kind of inexplicably changed over night. she was still friendly and bordering on flirty with me which didn't sit well with my wife naturally. it seemed like she was trying to play head games and it slowly started to boil over. my wife lost her patience, there was an eventual confrontation which the friend did not take well at all, and that was the last of it. all i learned from it was that i don't understand female social dynamics at all and i just need to worry about keeping the cars running and the yard maintained.
  9. why didn't they play him? because roger goodell would have suspended him without pay if we did. gettleman was open about the fact that discipline from the panthers wasn't on the table in the joint press conference that he gave with ron rivera after hardy was de-activated against detroit. the exempt list was a favor to hardy but he pissed all over it by barely showing his face in the building which his status allowed him to do. everything that was coming out of the panthers camp prior to the ray rice video was that they were going to let the legal process play out. we got caught up in the NFL's scramble for damage control, goodell came down with an ultimatum, and here we are.
  10. also it's a new page with new people making shitty arguments so i suppose i'll point this out again:
  11. between "ugh we're going to let him walk for nothing fug gettledouche and JR" and "ugh we should have let him walk for nothing last year fug gettledouche and JR" this topic is making my eyes bleed
  12. it was like when leroy hill was tagged by the seahawks a few years ago: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81001a5c/article/seahawks-rescind-franchise-tag-on-hill-make-veteran-lb-a-free-agent they rescinded the tag because he refused to sign his tender so they got the cap space back. if he had signed his tender, they were locked in. it'd be like if we franchised hardy and he signed his tender but we couldn't find a trade partner. if we just cut him we would eat the cap charge for the tag-we couldn't just rescind it and walk away. sorry my wife was watching this documentary about these crazy ass fan theories surrounding "the shining" and all the symbolism and poo in it so my brain is kind of fried
  13. i'm talking about the concept of franchising him and trading him as so many have suggested in this topic. followed by, as proudiddy suggested, rescinding the tag if we need the cap space. i know you can't tender a UFA. that argument didn't make sense to me because what i remembered from the peppers situation was that he held off from signing his tender which meant we couldn't trade him, and when he signed we already had the cap charge to deal with and were locked in and couldn't get out of it. we couldn't just rescind the tag and get the cap space back which would mean what proudiddy suggested wouldn't work.
  14. he could also hold out and not sign his tender like peppers did which would mean we couldn't move him. did you consider that? e: somebody who knows this stuff better please educate me. we can't trade him until he signs the tender but once he signs the tender can the tag be rescinded with no penalty? that doesn't sound right. if that's the case we'd be fuged either way.
  15. so let him walk for nothing anyway effectively accomplishing dick when nothing predictably happens with the trade? but hey at least we can say we tried which will make everyone happy. we need the space the second free agency starts. what's the time table on a trade exactly? we'd need to have him traded almost instantaneously for this to work otherwise we'd be hauling his big ass cap figure around crippling our ability to sign anyone. there's no chance and you need to let it go. you have an ideological beef with the idea of "letting an asset walk for nothing" and it makes good soapbox banter but in reality there isn't a better alternative.
  16. strap in huddle looks like we've got another offseason of "bloo bloo bloo such and such got a raw deal i hope he crushes the panthers while i stroke my neckbeard"
  17. i'm not trying to act like this isn't bad news and if i ran the panthers i'd try to sign him but acting like he got fuged by the FO and there's a bunch of simple stuff we should've done differently is some weak poo. if anything they took the baseball bat to the nuts in the form of paying the guy to do nothing and taking all the piss and vinegar from the fans and press. the FO really could have just washed their hands of him and left him to the tender mercies of a roger goodell who needed to do serious damage control to the image of the league, but they didn't.
  18. yeah man stay away from those panthers. if the commish threatens you with a suspension they'll just pay you $13 million plus playoff bonus to sit on the couch and they'll still let you use their facilities. even if you're barely seen there are still millions of dumb baby fans on the internet who'll cut their wrists for you and claim you got a raw deal.
  19. I Mean He Was Found Guilty, but he filed an appeal which granted him a trial de novo which nullified the original conviction until the jury trial could take place. it's a quirk in north carolina law. then the DA couldn't track down nicole holder earlier this month which kind of makes it hard to go forward with a trial so the case was dismissed. tldr he was never found "not guilty".
