If somebody is running a fever, has a cough, or has been notified that they've been around somebody who had/has COVID-19 they're probably getting tested if they have the ability to. That's how contact tracing is supposed to work, and it's a recipe for high test numbers/low-ish positives. There was somebody who was ID'd as testing positive for it in one of the buildings at my job and I bet everybody who came in contact with that person going back a month went out and got a brain tickler. That's potentially a few dozen tests being performed because of one positive case. I wouldn't necessarily break it down to a binary proposition of hypochondriacs vs. tests being faulty.

I've got it Hey did you guys know that liberals hate masks? Just the other day I was watching Rachel Maddow and she said that masks suck and only conservatives wear masks as a way to voice their disapproval of Hillary Clinton.

For the billionth time, wearing a mask reduces your chance of spreading a respiratory illness to other people. It isn't intended to protect you. Just say you don't want to wear a mask instead of trying to "uh well akshually if you look up the exact dictionary definition of 'prevent' then it's clear that *snort*... " your way out of it.

There were tons of mistakes made, particularly early in the pandemic by smart people who should know better. The onus is on us to learn from it. Of course that doesn't mean anybody is going to do it, and here we are.

The fact that we're debating wearing masks as a matter of political ideology in a respiratory illness pandemic is just sad. Also it's really cool that none of you are debating the death numbers now. Like three weeks ago it was all a gigantic conspiracy to make the President look bad. If they spike again I suppose we'll see a lot of people pivoting back to their YouTube videos of antivaxx nurses risking it all to tell the truth and people yelling in hospital parking lots.
